Perhaps there's a prequel to this story that I'm unaware of, but in this specific story it's audience seems to bethrust into a war that poorly explained. I'm curious what exactly caused the war in the first place and if there were any diplomatic efforts conducted to minimise conflict (and concerned about the lack of referenced diplomatic efforts). The authorship of this story facilitated ample ambiguity as to the nature of the conflict. It could be that the protagonist and the aqua corps are the moral monsters in this story. There was no or very little effort on behalf of the protagonist to describe their opponents as evil, or monstrous or even describe or report any actions of their opponents that resulted in the necessity for retaliation which was interesting, and concerning that the protagonist reported a desire (or perhaps curiosity) to push back their adversaries as far back as possible which to me prompts consideration of blood-lust and/or glorification of war/conflict on behalf of the protagonist/aqua corps and on a meta-scale, perhaps a primitive fascination with war and conflict within the psych of the author or perhaps a reference to a primitive proclivity to war and conflict within humans (protagonist referenced "humanity" (even seemingly in inclusive of humanoids with gills and webbed feet and hands)). Because of said ambiguity, I was experiencing confusion as to which side, (if any) I should be rooting for and expected a twist where the protagonist decided he was on the wrong side of the conflict. When the protagonist reported positive emotions, it was difficult for me to embrace this as I kept considering the possibility that the protagonist's outlook was misguided.

@audreyhoehn2745 I get what you are saying. However, you have to understand that this channel has a rather dark tone for the stories; more often than not, there will be a 'shoot first, ask questions later' approach.

@@GalacticHorrors I am aware of the dark tone. The stories do depict how we would likely respond. I hope that in reality we might just reach out first, but likely we will be hostile. We might not have a choice. I love these stories.

You never parlay on the back foot. In other words, when your back is against the wall, you fight. In an atmosphere about as uninhabitable for a human as the vacuum of space, our backs are always against the wall. Its better to be a warrior tending a garden than a gardener fighting in a war.
