ADHD here and hiring a housekeeper once/month was the best thing we’ve ever done. It gives me structure, accountability to get things put away so she can clean, and it’s so much easier to keep up with the day to day and recurring stuff when I don’t have to think about the deep cleaning. We did specifically hire someone who works for herself and sets her own rates because I wanted to make sure we weren’t leaning into systems of domestic exploitation, but we also have the privilege to make that work for us.

Carrie don’t feel bad about the number of books you read. If you read 10 books in a year you already read more than 79% of Americans! Remember when you see “all” those girlies who read tons of books they are literally like 1% of people.

This is so true! I love the specifically book creators that always are pointing out like in their monthly wrap up that they read a LOT cause it is basically their job and most people aren’t reading that much so don’t feel bad.

I would loooove if you got into weight lifting, it is so addicting in the best way! Get strong Carrie! It helps so much with feeling good in your skin and confident. I love going to the gym, it gets me out of the house, motivated by all of the people around me killing it, and I always feel awesome afterwards.

Learning new stuff is always good. One thing I recommend keeping in mind tho, is that if someone is talking to you about something you are not familiar with (finances) it’s not on you and you are not any less intelligent than they are. It’s not about explaining like you were 5yrs old; it’s explaining like I didn’t study your career and have your job. Because you don’t. That’s why you pay them. Good luck with your goals~

On the topic of hiring out cleaning- I acknowledge my privilege on this topic but I hired housecleaners this year and it’s honestly the best thing I’ve ever spent money on and I wish I’d have done it sooner. If it’s important to you and you can, highly recommend.

I connected so much on the overthinking on social interactions and the overwhelm with cleaning my home. To help with the social thing, I am staring off by limiting my thinking, setting a timer and when it’s done it’s done. For the cleaning part, I swallowed my guilt and accepted my privilege and hired a housekeeping service. It’s been a few weeks and honestly it is such a relief. To have that weight off my shoulders is worth every single penny it costs. If you can, you won’t regret.

when you described the microscopic self analysis after every social encounter, I felt that so hard. I do that too. Picking apart every little thing I do or say and constantly apologizing even while I am with the person because I interpret some fleeting micro-expression on their face as possible displeasure or annoyance. It's so EXHAUSTING.

I am totally a proponent of making the bed. It is literally a thing I check off my list every day because it’s so easy and I have done something. It is so nice to get into a fresh bed in the evening after you’ve had your bath and you’re all comfy and pretty and crawl into your bed and it’s cozy and wonderful and you read a book and it’s awesome. I am also religious about changing the sheets at least once a week one day for sure, other days if necessary. I like scheduling it on a day where I’m doing a spa/pampering day. You know, the day when you take a bath and do all the things and then you feel amazing when you get done that day that’s the best day to have clean sheets. It’s a pampered day.

Saying no to things you’re not vibing with is SO👏🏼IMPORTANT👏🏼 I set that as a goal for myself in January 2023 because I am also a major people pleaser and oh my gosh it has changed my life!! I’m not perfect at it by any means but I’ve gotten so good at just being honest with the people in my life and if it bothers them, well then they aren’t very good friends. It sounds harsh but if your closest people are not understanding when you say you’re just not able to do something, then that’s their problem. I’m a teacher and I got much better at advocating for myself and saying no to things that are not my job to do. It’s definitely one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I really hope it goes well for you! You got this! 💖

I agree with the make the bed daily and keeping up with the dishes everyday. I get so tired of seeing dishes by and in the sink every morning. We hand wash our dishes so it takes a bit of time but, honestly, it’s not that much time if they are kept washed throughout the day.

I have a great suggestion for you to try to really feel and GET strong and committed to your workout routine. It has been a game-changer for me over the past 7+ years! Please try out a class at your closest Pure Barre studio. There are lots of locations and you should be able to try out a class for free. It’s the BEST for an environment of non-competitive, supportive camaraderie and you can pick and choose your schedule and class formats. The PB Classic class is my favorite. Look to become stronger and proud physically and mentally. It helps me with focus, strength flexibility, balance, and physical conditioning. I sound like a commercial for Pure Barre here, but I think you’ll feel the same if you go check it out 🥰 And stick with it, it may not get easy but you and your new PB family will be excited about your growth❣️ Happy 2024 Carrie and Drew 🙂

I relate so so strongly to many things you talked about here - especially analyzing everything I say after hanging out with friends and feeling like an 8 year old after talking to financial advisors 😂 The fact that I’m 37 years old and have a “highly successful career” in the eyes of the financial institute makes me feel so embarrassed that all the financial lingo goes right over my head. Nice to know I’m not alone! 😅

I went through a phase (a many years phase) where I didn't make my bed. I decided that I wanted my bedroom to be (somewhat) tidy so I started making it. Turns out that the 15 second ritual of turning the covers down and removing the bolster pillows and getting into a bed that had been neatly made was nice. That made the making it in the morning less of a chore.

I make my bed everyday and have for YEARS and it’s one of the habits I think of when I start to think “I can’t be consistent with habits” and yes I can. I decided years ago I was “a person who makes their bed” and I just do it. Everyday. Without thinking. Another habit I took on years ago and it’s just a thing I do (but this one isn’t 100%) bit when I first started I called it “do the dishes” and it was just no dirty dishes left in the sink when I go to bed. Which also almost always spirals into wiping down the counters. And again. It’s something I just decided that it’s a thing I do. No negotiations.

I love love love this type of video/content! I also find it so inspiring to watch these kinds of videos and they really help me think about my goals too. Some peoples reading goals stress me out but good for them 😂. I have a friend that's heavily on booktok and her goal is to read 120 books 🤯. I'ma be real. My goal is to read 6 hahaha. Like I'm an unwind before bed reader too and I have found it so difficult to find a book that even keeps my interest. Been struggling with one book in particular but I can't bring myself to move on until I finish it 🥲. Maybe that's something else I should work on this year 💀... One of my other goals is to learn new creative things/outlets and video editing is one of them! Would be a DREAM to edit for you 😭. Hope 2024 is good to us all! 🙌🏽💖
