This guy isn’t bragging, we spend so much time focusing on getting OUT of debt, that once you get to the other side you need to figure out what to do. 250k isn’t a lot of money, if you think that’s rich you’re out of your mind. You can’t retire young on 250k. That’s a 50k salary for 5 years, that’s NOT a lot of money. He’s trying to figure out how to turn it into a $60k salary for the rest of his life which is absolutely reasonable if he’s out of debt to live off comfortably without being extravagant. If you think he’s trying to brag, then you’re way too far behind getting your finances under control to criticize anyone else...

With inflation, devaluation of the dollar, and the current and future prices of out of pocket health care, I hate to sound greedy, but unless your net worth is a pretty large figure, I’d find it hard to think that I didn’t need to save more, invest more, and not worry about creating more income.

I know exactly how he feels. Worked hard, built wealth completely debt free. I retired at 42 haven't worked since. Now 50 I'm bored out of my mind. I traveled and saw the world now traveling is boring. Thinking about going back to work and unsure of what to do. Every day I wake up without purpose it's hard to deal with. When friends and family get up to go to work and school. I'm left just thinking all day. I volunteer whenever needed but that's sporadic as well.

I think Dave might have missed the point on the reason. Sometimes piling up more money or wealth is boring. It doesn't seem purposeful any more. I get it that he can't quite retire on what he has. But I think he might be having an existential crisis that piling up more money isn't going to fix.

I know where this guy is at. I did Dave's program and paid off all debt including our home expecting to feel for lack of a better term happy. I quickly became bored, bought more real estate with mortgages and paid them off recently. During this time my goal has been to become financially independent through self employment/rental income. I recently left my 9 to 5 job, that was mentally stressful initially, now I feel extremely privileged to have the freedom to structure my days as I wish.

Next you want to look at your debt. Do you have any Credit Card debt? and Student Loans? A car payment? anything but a mortgage if you have one. List them all and then order them smallest to largest, you'll not use your 1,000 dollars to pay these debts. That 1,000 is for anything crazy that happens to all of us that you absolutely can't pay. pay the minimum payment on all your debts and go into hardship deferral on your student loans to have as much money as possible to kill your debt. Pay off your smallest debt and then use the minimum payment from that debt to kill your other debts.

Many entrepreneurs have this problem. They can't slow down at the end of the road. They can't stop working because they have nothing else to do. They've wrapped themselves up in their business often will mettle without realizing it. They will think that the business will not exceed without them. I learned a long time ago, a person needs to practice at retirement. Ever increasing vacations without checking in with the office. Trusting the people you put in charge and if you ask them a question reflect for a minute (just because it's not what you'd do doesn't make it wrong) then give them the permission to make the best call they can make. Always give more latitude for others to learn from mistakes. You're a mentor not a dictator.
