@@GroundedTech Samsung employee here, turn off the prioritize speed in camera assistant settings and use prioritize quality. That setting absolutely destroys the HDR quality because it's forces the phone to use 3 frames instead of 5 to 10 frames for HDR. Try it and get back to me if that worked for you 👌

That's just my latest settings. I've been changing between to see what difference it makes. I'll do it again but I'm not expecting it to really be any different. Not to mention I'm guessing that also makes the shutter speed much slower?

I’ve been using the s23 ultra for a month now, and I agree with you.. it’s blown out some of the times, and it isn’t consistent for some reason.. The other times, to be fair, I also have taken really really good photos, especially with the 50 megapixel

I'm disappointed because cameras have issues that have been going on for YEARS now on Samsung phones. I've been using Samsung flagships since S7 edge days, and to this day, I can't take a pic of moving subject (kid, pet...) without it being blurry unusable mess. The same conditions my prehistoric Iphone 6 handles pretty good. Shutter lag/motion blur because of it, choppy videos, unpredictable results, weird color grading...I don't care about xy "features" that most of the users will try once or never (Single take, Directors cut, Moon pics...), I just want reliable point and shoot camera. And I'm afraid S23 Ultra does not deliver that. Forcing Camera assistant to "fix" problems (that should be long gone by now), and even failing in that, is real insult for anyone who knows a thing or two about the tech. I guess most of the problems could be polished with proper software update, but, hey, most of the youtubers don't even address the issues and S24 "you won't believe what we will present" is right around the corner. Quantity kills the quality when it comes to Samsung, one year for Flip/Fold and next for S series - things would be much better

Hi , I have the s23 ultra and I agree. When you shoot a 50mp photo it processes the picture automatically with artificial intelligence software. The picture looks brighter and oversaturated. I had a phonecall with a Samsung technician and said this is integrated in the software and can't be changed manually. The 12mp sensor doesn't have this issue. They said they will forward this problem to Samsung and "hopefully" will be fixed with a software update. Unbelievable for a 1500€ phone.

Yeah it's pretty wild. I have the S23 Ultra again and will have a new video soon in regards to the cameras and how to get the best out of them. It's capable of great images as long as you don't use the auto mode.

I own a S23 Ultra and I'm very satisfied with the camera. It might not be perfect in every situation, as all phones have ups and downs. But overall it is superb. And one thing you didn't mention is the details when zooming into the photo. Which is clearly better than those other phones. Also the brightness can be easily adjusted and the outcome would be much more pleasing.
@GroundedTech
@GroundedTech Жыл бұрын
It's no better when zooming into the photo unless you're shooting in 50mp or 200mp mode. All of these phones end up with a roughly 12mp image. I agree no phone is perfect and they all have their quirks. But there has been genuine issues with this phones camera for me. I'll be doing an updated video soon with more comparisons to see if recent updates have improved things.

Samsung clearly are not listening,, I've recently bought the s24 and the overprocessing ruins literally every picture I take and it seems to be a problem for the s24 plus and ultra. If Samsung never fixed this problem on the s23 then I don't suppose they will fix it for the s24 as I think they use pretty much the same hardware.
@GroundedTech
@GroundedTech 2 ай бұрын
Yes exactly. You'll see I have a S24+ video I released recently comparing it to the S23 Ultra and Pixel 8 Pro. The processing is a touch better than last year but overall the hardware is weak and the processing still not comparable to competition. It's a shame because the rest of the phone is great.

I some scenarios I just lower the exposure manually which is not convenient, but solves the problem. Also works for night shots making the colours more real and the scene more like night in general.

@impinas

As a Samsung owner for the past 6 years (Galaxy S9+ and then S21 fe), I never shoot in auto, unless in a real hurry. I always go into manual and shoot with a dialed down exposeure by 1 step. Thankfully, manual mode retains settings and there is no need to set it every single time. In some cases, I even tap on a bright spot so that I am sure of getting a balanced shot.
@GroundedTech
@GroundedTech Жыл бұрын
Yeah even with dialling the exposure down it still comes out looking awful. Pro Mode does make it way darker and contrasty but it needs something in-between. Manual is fine for some but most will shoot auto with a Galaxy.
@impinas
@impinas Жыл бұрын
@@GroundedTech Well not awful but there is room for improvement. I haven't touched anything else in manual, so I have no such issues, it's totally like shooting in auto but with better exposure. Worst case scenario, photos can be post edited. There is plenty of detail, so dialing the brightness and exposure after shooting is possible. That is with my 12 mp. I can't even imagine how's it like with the 200 of the ultra😳
@GroundedTech
@GroundedTech Жыл бұрын

first, it's not the best (not only are Iphone/Pixel better, even S22 Ultra results somehow are). second, it's unpredictable - take 3 shots one after another, you can get 3 totally different results. That's kinda opposite of what reliable point and shoot camera on phone should be.(those Samsung fans who are all about "But you know, if you use Pro mode...", well if I wanted to mess with Pro mode every time I took my device out of the pocket, I'd get pro camera) I've been using Samsung phones for years now, but never have I deleted so many photos/videos with previous devices. Some of them are really unusable, some are just below average and I don't need a constant reminder in my gallery that I paid for premium phone with mediocre camera at best.

I had S9+ for almost 5 years. I was very happy with that phone from the first moment, great photos, good display nice, big, good processor, nfc, everything works fine. Battery started to degrade so i decided to upgrade to s23, i was told it will be a huge leap... Okay, so 23 is a very very small phone, like iphone 6, but with a much better screen to body ratio. But, small. I don't like it. 120hz display is good. The camera, oh my god, its very, very bad. I make lots of photos of documents, and its very very unpleasant and ultra bad. Like a owner of S23 Ultra for 1,5 months I can agree. Pictures looks not too much realistic, looks like Samsung is already using a filter when you make basic photo. But that's not only S23 Ultra problem , all Samsung phones that I use until now have this 'problem'. Probably for Samsung fan boys that 'feature' is amazing and they like it. Me personally , I can't say that I hate those pictures, but I'm not impressed as well, that's why I install Gcam, and when I see something really beautiful and I wanna make a picture, I make a picture with Scam and 1 picture with Gcam and I'm ok with that, one of those 2 photos I'll like. Maybe that's not the best option when you spend 1400£ for a phone, but the problem is that if you want a top Android phone in UK on beginning of 2023, you have 2 options: 1.Galaxy S23 Ultra 2. Honor Magic 5 Pro . I was exited about Honor Magic 5 Pro , it's a great deal for price/quality, but I can't accept that ugly notch after 4 years in a row with OnePlus 7 Pro without any notch at all. Maybe later would be Xiaomi 13 Ultra, new Sony, new Pixel etc. I can't say that I regret buying S23 Ultra until now, It's overall a really good phone, and you can find any type of accessories , you have a lot of official shop's, all type of colors, type's of memory etc. If they gonna improve camera in the next update like I read in some news it's gonna be great, if no, Gcam gonna be my secret weapon. Good video, and honest opinion.

I sold my S23U (should have done it earlier) just because of terrible camera experience. Same old “we’ll fix it with updates” camera issues Samsung phones have had for years now. And - they do nothing to fix it. It’s unreliable, with lot of “features” (that most of the users will use once, twice or never) but without solving the basic ones. Not being able to take a clear pic of moving subject on 2023. flagship is just pure nonsence. As much as their hardware is good, software is where it all falls apart. And they just don’t seem to care about it…

@@GroundedTech it’s crazy how fast Samsung phones lose their value. But, given how many problems they have, how company stops caring about their devices as soon as new one is presented, and competition (that’s now stronger even for 2-3 times less money), it’s no wonder less and less people buy S lineup. I don’t think that Samsung can continue like this for long time… Recently, in my country, there was promotion, if you buy any S23/Flip/Fold, you get S21fe for free. That’s not what company would do if they sold as much as they planned PS I really doubt they will fix anything when it comes to camera performance on S23 phones, if they wanted to - they had enough time by now, and upcoming S24 series is right around the corner

They should! If the GCam can produce good pictures, the stock app should do at least as well... In the meanwhile, I've rarely sent a picture without editing it before (or using a pro mode), which is big loss of time! Samsung? In my opinion, this is the year of sensors in flagships... almost all have adopted large and innovative sensors, as well as different arrangements in camera lenses, leading to drastic changes in light capture and consequently in photo processing... I'm going to focus on just 3 issues I've seen with the best smartphones in the world... * White balance: Here I highlight yellowish tones, like on Oppo and Apple, magenta tones, like on Xiaomi, saturated photos, like on Samsung, mainly in the sky and foliage, but there are many problems, and I believe that in this case it is not even not only because of the change in the sensor itself, but because of the manufacturers' choice and the lack of fine adjustments or alternative color processing options. * Underexposure: Here I believe that the flagship of the year is Xiaomi, mainly in authentic mode, but I don't think I can blame the sensor for that, not least because the predecessor already used such a huge sensor, but due to the company's exclusive and recurring failure in the photo processing, frustrating many users... another honorable mention here goes to the Pixel, which makes particularly dark photos and faces too dark. * Overexposure: Here comes Samsung, Oppo, Huawei, Apple, several manufacturers have improved their sensors and with such a large input of light, they have not correctly calibrated their HDR... particularly speaking of Samsung, clear photos in general call for attention and end up being preferred over the dark ones for the general public, and that's what Samsung usually does, but the excess exposure, in addition to taking away the details, brings something unreal to the photo... I think Samsung lacks little to leave optimal processing in brightly lit scenes. OBS: I haven't gotten as many cases of photos recently as you show here in your examples, and my 1st S23 Ultra came with a defect in the main camera, and I changed it after 6 days of use, I even talk about it on my channel.. . if this situation is chronic, maybe you have a faulty unit... this is not impossible, because I guarantee you that out of 100 photos that I take, a maximum of 3 will have the characteristics you showed, and even in the most recent reviews, there are not that many cases. Here's the tip! 😉
@GroundedTech

What was the defect? Did you get the unit replaced and did it change?
@isaquesperandio162

@@GroundedTech The lower right corner region of the main sensor was blurred as if the image had little detail. Fortunately, as here in my region, you can exchange the device for a new one if you discover a defect within a week, that's what happened. and it doesn't have any type of defect either on the cameras or anywhere else... it's 100% OK. But it was only possible to reach this conclusion when comparing the photos with my old s21 Ultra, otherwise maybe I would only be disappointed but would not be able to make the complaint and consequently exchange.
@GroundedTech
@GroundedTech Жыл бұрын
I have to say the images are sharp tbh. It's more the exposure and overly saturated colours which I've had an issue with on many Samsung's in the past. Hoping it isn't a defect. I can't get it replaced very quickly and I've had very bad experiences with Samsung's customer service in the past.

@@GroundedTech I also had very bad experiences with Samsung's warranty, thankfully not that I didn't have to resort to it... it was all resolved in the store where I bought it... but I give you a tip, compare your photos with others that are being published in comparisons by then if they are very out of reality there may be something wrong with your device yes because mine was just one of the many types of problems that I've heard people report
