I started stacking with Maples back in the day. They were awful until 2018. Then, the RCM made it right with their MintShield process, and I’m completely fine stacking them again.

Silver is silver when it's generic. But when it's GOV coins the quality of the silver matters for resale Fact, not theory.

I mainly stack Maples coz I'm Canadian :) Unfortunately I also hv 4 coins out of 40 that hv milk spots. I also hv 15 ASE's and so far so good, no milk spotting. Im not much worried about it coz if do come to sell them one day, I will clean them. Their are quite few videos on YT on how to get rid of them but for now, no worries on my part, they all 1 oz of Silver, that will never change. Happy stacking all

Agree 100% with you! In my journey in Silver, was told Milk Spots or Milk Spotting won't effect sale-ability! B/S What stupid logic in my thinking as would you pay top dollar for a new car if the clear/paint is scratched up or dull???? NO.. I learned this the hard way with 2016 Maple Leafs. So disappointing, so don't pay full price for Milk Spotting because when or if you sell you won't get FULL PARICE FACT!

I have tubes of Brits and Tudor silver coins that will be the first thing I sell when silver hit's 30.00 someday. If there was an award for the most milk spots on a coin, the Royal Mint would win. Love the RM gold, still going with the gold for sure.

Bought a whole tube of 2023 King Charles Brittanias a few weeks back. Very disappointed, opened the tube and every single coin had large milk spots 😭.

Just found out there's a precursor to the Britannia which is more silver than a Ounce 1998 Non-circulating coin: Silver Britannia Silver (.958) • 32.45 g • ⌀ 40 mm but it's still a ounce , only Britannia I want to buy.

I stack all types of silver and I have them ALL in every size. Every type of coins I have not a lot but some of every type have milk spots. That’s silver, every stacker has milky silver it’s a part of stacking. I agree with you when you buy silver you want clean silver. Maples there my favorite I have a monster box of them.

Your spot on. Milk Spots will devalue Silver Bullion. Who is going to buy Silver coins that are all marked up for even spot value? That's what the guy at the coin shop will tell you before he makes you a terrible offer for them. I've been very lucky so far. I have a tube of Maples I bought in 2014 and all that has happened to them is that the one I removed from the tube and placed in its own plastic capsule has tonned very nicely. It's changed to a slightly golden colour. Looks cool. The rest haven't changed at all. I've 10 2022 Brittana 1oz Bullion coins that haven't shown any signs of spotting yet. I bought only one 2023 King Charles Brittana, not really a fan but I had to have one. There's no milk spots on that either but there is a small scratch, half a centimeter long, just below the neckline. That's worse than spotting because it's avoidable. I had stopped buying as much Silver, Gold carries more value and is more compact and I didn't want to end up with more Silver than I can carry but I have renewed faith that Silver will out preform Gold, even with the Milk spots because the demand will be huge. Hopefully.

@@SilverGoldStackAttack I've never sold any of my coins. I started out "Prepping/Stacking" but I got bored looking at 1oz Maples and 1oz Bullion in general. I started " Collecting" which has involved my Grandchildren now who also collect coins. At 11 and 6 you could say they have started early. We collect everything from modern commemorative coins to pre 1920 British Coinage, and Silver Bullion too. Imagine your stack had you started when you were 11 or even 6. I soon got a pile of bulky Royal mint 2oz Proof boxes and I started to think in terms of what I could move if I had to move it. I wouldn't want a pile of metal dictate to me my next move, or not if it's too bulky and heavy. Storing this stuff is a pain too but. I guess I cannot spend all this money and still have the money and then complain about it 😆 I subscribed.

My LCS only pays $1 over spot for all government coins except Eagles. They buy them with or without spots all day for the same price. They buy a Britannia with spots for $1 over and sell it right back to you for $8 over.

I was never into these for a very simple reason. In the UK all bullion trades , except Gold, come with a 20% VAT liability. No way am I giving my money to the government if I can avoid it.

I have x100 2021 Britts in tubes with no milking. They are perfect. Had some 2022 (x50) with some milking. All my 10oz britannia bars are fine. I have a 10oz Una bar and x10 1oz una bars all with no spots.

Well I must say that so far, believe it or not that all of my eagles back to 15 are still excellant as well as my Britannias. However with that being said, were only talking about 20 of them back to 2020 on the Britt's! 🤞 However, I think your right on the maples. That's where I'm headed from now on also. WHY PUSH MY LUCK with the eagles & Britannias? Lol

I like maples, always have. I just like the design. I’ve never had any of my silver milk spot surprisingly… I like the .9999 of the maples too even know it doesn’t matter really. Why not get the most pure you can as long as the price isn’t ridiculous. I also like the 10 oz Canadian bars, they are just beautiful. I will get some 10 oz Britannia’s though. I keep eagles, maples and philharmonics as far as soverign coins for weight is concerned. For rounds I like .9999 silver buffalos and the Morgan design- again I just like the design and it’s recognizable to most. Have a good Sunday.

I think I heard they were adding upgraded wash equipment. But I buy Maples and Britanias usually 5 at a time and have had NO milk spots - Just luck?

2018 and up Maples are GREAT! My older Brits seem to be ok. Just the last few years have been really bad from the Royal Mint.

I also paid just over the cost of generic rounds for them. And they are sovereign coins. I think most likely is the good years without spotting will appreciate and the milky years won't.

Yep, totally agree. This is silver we're talking about not clad. Quality is what we look for. I'm not going to buy an ugly coin and I wouldn't expect anyone else to if given the option.

I could never get behind maples and Britanias with the queen being on the coin. Only coins I’ve gotten are the silver buffalos and the Austrian philharmonics. Phils haven’t spotted yet but the buffaloes are already. Unpopular opinion but I really like the philharmonic coin I think it’s an attractive coin. If only the American eagles didn’t have such a premium, I’d buy those.

I’m with you on Eagles. Wish I could make them my main stacker, but I just can’t justify it at those premiums. Phils are ok; I don’t have much against them, but they spot pretty badly at times as well.

I feel like the quality control fell apart when they were trying to premate dies for the new coins before she died. And then holding production after the beginning of the production to restart the new ones with the King

I just subscribed, thank you for sharing. What are your thoughts on a decent premium for the one year? Issue of Britannia is 1 ounce silver coins with oriental borders? I have a sleeve of encapsulated Britannia’s with oriental borders, immaculate condition. I have done very well with the beast. Thank you again.

saw a guy do a cleaner comparison - ended up recommending maguire ultimate polish. cleaning standard bullion (not collector stuff) to have nice to look at coins again doesn't seem bad. I just got into silver a month ago, and I'll probably do that when my stuff starts to spot.

I’ll clean 90% halves if they’re not key dates. They’re only worth the silver content, most of the time. I might try a few cleaners, just to experiment!

I totally agree with you, the quality is very bad. If pinned down the Royal Mint will say they buy the blanks from another mint. However they do not challenge their supplier. In short RM does not care. There are also many other issues with Royal Mint products too. RM coins are just scrap metal at a premium and nothing else. Not just the Britannia coins either.

@@go4it129 - From what I’ve seen, that won’t prevent spots. Lots of graded bullion has even spotted in graded slabs months, even years after they were issued. Spots are like a time bomb! If the residue is left on the planchette and the annealing process takes place, they’re baked on. You might not see them for some time. This obviously isn’t always the case, though. Hoping yours stay perfect!

I bought that NGC slabbed 23 QE2 commemorative from Apmex. Huge milk spot, size of a quarter across the Queens face. Oh well

I’m from uk but won’t buy silver Britannia’s even though I think they look great. Not long started stacking and bought a tube of maples just because they don’t milk spot. If royal mint sorted out their issue I’d buy them all the time. Although I have saved up and bought a couple of 1 oz gold Britannia’s (1 of him, 1 of her) hopefully no problems with them in the future, do they spot?

Haven't bought any; I'd consider buying a tube, but only to have them. I collect all kinds, and some more than others, but their design just doesn't do it for me. I like the collector pieces, but I'm trying to keep it roughly 70% bullion, 30% collector items. (Ironically, that 30% collector items cost more than the 70% generic rounds/bars)

Yup, they are. And you’re right: Spots don’t have a physical effect on the silver itself. But, spots DO affect the overall value of the coin, taking away any profit over spot that might’ve been gained. 😉

Yup. Poor QC. Some who were defending the RM said it was their entry-level bullion, which is true, but that they took better care with the higher end stuff…not true. It spots as well!

I learned a long time ago that the Royal Canadian Mint ever since 2018 has been the go-to... honestly it shouldn't matter too much on the spotting but people tend to like their stuff shiny and new looking when they get it if you ever go to resale.. I do like bananas design though it does look really nice I hope they initiate some type of men Shield or whatever like Canada has

Yup. I love stacking Maples. Even more so, from 2018 on, when they implemented MintShield. Spotting definitely does take away some value in resale. Stinks, but what can ya do?

Don't lose sleep over the spotting issue. It has no effect on the bullion value. Investors don't buy just because it looks pretty.

I’ve spoken with a few different LCS dealers, and they’ve all said the same thing: They’ll give you less for milk-spotted bullion than they would for the same in pristine condition. It’s just the reality of the situation, unfortunately. If things come down to SHTF, then an ounce of silver will be an ounce of silver; regardless of where it was minted, or what’s on it. That’s a different scenario.

@@SilverGoldStackAttack that's 💯... I have two main LCS I deal with and one pays 1-2 over spot... And the other pays about the same for them... But if milk spots are on it or scratched up or what not.. They pay just spot at once of them and the other actually pays minus one dollar (1 under spot)... Maybe spot itself if you're a repeat customer... and even when you saw him to the major places like JM Bullion or whatever.. I've sold spotted maple leaves a canyon has to them and they only pay spot and if they have milk spotting and some scratching on it they'll even give you a dollar less than spot.. I had two tubes one of each and they both had scratches on some of them and most of them were milk spotted when I sent some in as an experiment to see how much I would get back from a major dealer.. plus I wanted upgrade all my Maple Leaf coins to coins minted after 2018 when the mint Shield technology came out... I just wish the other major events like the Perth men and the Royal Mint would do the same... (hint hint lol..)... anyways I'm just rambling now great conversation guys but it's why I prefer Canadian coins to this day... check out their new series that started out I just picked up a bunch of the two ouncers from the Ice Age series..

I'm not a fan of the Britannia's since they started putting King Charles on them. He is the head of the WEF. A lot of people mistakenly think it is Klaus Schwab. 👎

I used to be a big fan of the Britannia Coins, but the milk spots got to me. Sad, they have one of the best-looking coins but the last tube I bought was like they rubbed it down with cottage cheese, hurts resell value for sure. My LCS considered the 2023's Cull. I'll add some ASE still, but Maples are my favorite to stack now.

Where’d you hear that? Just curious, for two reasons: 1) There’s no law that requires Canada to make the change. They can keep Elizabeth on there for eternity. 2) Canadians generally don’t care for Chuck, going back decades! 🤣

They do milk spot bad. I am just starting. I am still going to stack them my phillys milk spot worse. I understand I won't stack a monster box of them, but I will the eagles and maples. You will get less, but when I sell mine, In 30+ years, so I don't care about that. For me, it is retirement money.

All four of my 2023 QE II Britannias are milkspotted, and I too am not down with it. Sure, it's a bullion coin, but I do have some expecttion of quality for anything I purchase with my hard-earned bucks. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. I've got two tubes of 2022 Britannias I bought a year ago; one day I'll open them and do a video as I check them; same for four tubes of Kangaroos. Anyway, I've stopped adding to my 'basic stack' and am now concentrating on high-premium/low-mintage/numismatic/raw/slabbed coins/rounds, so I also buy single examples of newly minted bullion coins for the collection. I understand that it is a problem with the planchettes supplied to the mint, and that it is borax that is the problem. I understand chemistry, but don't know the exact process the planchettes are subject to, so.................................?

@@SilverGoldStackAttack I heard that too, not long after I got them, but that was my first month of stacking. I've learned a lot since then. Fortunately, after 15 months, I find I didn't make too many mistakes (never wrong; sometimes mistaken👀).🤐 Still, silver is silver and I don't really see swapping it out as a winning strategy at this stage. When I've got spare cash; I buy.

@@SilverGoldStackAttack I have a 1920's peace dollar with a similar mark , did they have milk spots way back then ? i was gonna try a butane torch for it because the baking soda trick didn't work ... maybe I can try it and report back before you try it on a Brit , I can't imagine a little heat ruining sliver/copper... and if it does it's just one peace dollar after all

@@SilverGoldStackAttack whatever is on my peace dollar didn't come off with a number of burns , most people wouldn't want to have to clean sliver afterwards anyway , I don't care that much about a '22 silver dollar, so I scorched it really good and the thing that looks like a milkspot is amazingly still there ... I just used a regular cigarette lighter though... my butane torch I accidentally left it at work , but yeah, a regular lighter burns the silver totally black until it's cleaned really good , just a heads up for anyone that's anti-cleaning , anti-dipping, don't try this at home:) sorry to hear about your milkspots , maybe someone else will have a solution ... maybe quite literally a "solution" since these might act like chemical burns ....

Of all the Royal Mint products, the Britannias are most prone to milk spots. That has the highest mintage among their products so that may be related to why the Britannias just have a lot of milk spotting issues as well. Just my assumption. It would be great if someone comes up with a solution to remove all milk spot issues without damaging the surface.

I would rather buy Baird and Co rounds. The royal mint spends much time gold plating worthless coins and milking the public with limited editions at ridiculous prices . The royal angle is all they have really . I don't buy coins with the kings/ queen's head on them because being issued by the crown ,the crown can claim them .

@@SilverGoldStackAttack Baird do refining and have a small series of different coin. They supply India,as their Lakshmi and Ganesh coins seem popular. They refine to .9999 ,partly I assume due to industrial recycled silver used partly in the mix.
