also yes, vernon is mixed, his mom is from the U.S. and his dad is korean. and tho it's more common now, at the time of their debut there weren't many bi-*RACIAL* (i say this bc there have been and are various idols who are half korean but still 100% genetically asian for lack of better term) idols, and carats really didn't like the narrative being pushed on him as "the white boy" of seventeen (rightfully so), and being singled out for his "foreignness" when 1) there are 4 foreign members of svt, yet at the time it was kind of obv a lot of ppl, whether inside or outside the fandom, seemed to fixate on vernon in particular and... well i think we all know why :// whether it be bc of fetishization or prejudice driven sentiment. esp since joshua is very much american and yet for a time it seemed like ppl were pawning the "designated american member" role to vernon more so which. really makes u go hmmmm 2) vernon had been bullied and discriminated against throughout his childhood for being biracial, the bullying and ostracization he experienced was one of the factors that contributed to him dropping out of middle school and being homeschooled. 3) as shown in the guide, as he's lived in korea his entire life, vernon has stated on multiple occasions that he feels culturally more korean than american and that should be respected ^to add emphasis-- though not super important in the grand scheme of things-- vernon isn't even his english name, he doesn't HAVE one. his documented/real name is hansol, vernon is his mother's maiden name. with that being said, i dont think vernon's ethnicity is something to walk on eggshells about or something to be afraid of talking about either. just make sure to be respectful (which u have been /gen) and don't treat him like svt's token white boy lol. thankfully a lot of this type of energy and attention has died down significantly throughout svt's career but yeee just some insight as to why a lot of these guides like to emphasize vernon's korean-ness bc it's been invalidated a lot in the past when it shouldn't be. sorry for the essay fhjdjdjd being half korean myself this is smth i've thought about a lot and am passionate about. anyways, welcome to the fandom! i've been enjoying watching ur journey into the diamond life hehe

Vernon is ethnically half Korean, his mother is American (French/German ancestry I believe). It's because he "looks foreign" that his background gets discussed a lot and is treated more like a foreigner than Joshua (Who's born and raised in America) even though he's been in Korea most of his life at this point. He still speaks english really well because his family speaks it at home but I do believe Joshua is more fluent than him because he's had moments where he'd forget english words and there's several cute instances where Joshua would speak to him in english but he'd reply in Korean. Also, you may not want to admit it, but Vernon is definitely on your bias list in your heart. Every time he appears on screen, you almost always make a comment on him. It's really cute actually :)

It was a 12 yellow flowers with 1 orange flower in the middle, the members said that you are the center in the seventeen because you are the maknae and we love you so much. Not to mention that in seventeen he is the only 99liner and the others are 95line to 98liners. So.. in their eyes Dino will always be a maknae, even scoups said that even Im 50 years old, you will always be my maknae.

i thinking doing it like this, watching the long guide first and then watching this is good, because the longer guide is more "calm" since it's longer, and provides a lot of good facts and is more of a serious vibe, where as this is more chaotic and focuses also a lot on the funny stuff. If you only watch this guide though i feel like you would miss a lot of things because they leave a lot out. One thing I would add to these guides is that they never mention mingyu and vernon being vocalists also.

I love these reactions so much!! I literally check if you've posted anything the minute I wake up. You are also doing an amazing job remembering names and faces. Seventeen is not an easy group to memorize and people often get some members mixed up cuz they 'look alike' (like Joshua/Jun, Wonwoo/Mingyu, Wonwoo/DK) so don't feel bad about getting confused. To get to know them better, there are member guides (a confusing guide to...) but Emmalilyn that are really good and help alot as well as a series by mwaujhk with the acronym SVT, with each letter having its own video. I recommend both of these I'd you're looking for something funny that would also help you learn more about them and their personalities If you're looking for something more on the Series side, they did a series called Hit The Road that followed their last world tour and each episode focuses on a different member.
