Scotty Sir, you missed and/or skirted over some points. New Subaru's are quiet??? I guess that makes my 2012 NEW, because my 2012 is super quiet. Power??? All this talk about horse power, means very little, going from an entrance ramp at 30 mph, too RT95's 70 mph is NOT a problem for a 20112 with 232,000 miles. Handling??? The boxer engine by design keeps the weight of the car low, which make taking curves feel safe with exceptional handling. This 2012 is my first Subaru, I bought from a private seller at a crazy low price, from this day forward, it will be my first choice, it's a manufacturer I will recommend.

How much did they save on a simple gasket over the silicone glue? Geez. Where else in the car did they go cheap?
@eddiekk45
@eddiekk45 11 ай бұрын
The head gaskets leaked because with the boxer engines coolant is always is in contact with the head gasket and ate them up. Switching to silicone solved the issue. As far as ten years down the road who knows. It depends on how the silicone was engineered. But I put 225,000 on my list Subaru with no issues as far as leaking went. But the transmission valve body went at 160,000. And it might be a good idea to change your coolant, every three or four years to make sure the rust inhibitor in coolant is still active. If it becomes inactive, it’s sort of becomes acidic. Which may harm the silicone.

I've liked Subaru ever since my Dad bought a new 1974 GL sedan. It was his daily driver back-and-forth to work, and the car I drove to get my driver's license when I was 16. Manual transmission, good gas mileage. It was a practical car for a practical man. More recently, my sister bought a Forester Touring model and loves it. Watch out, Toyota.

I love my Impreza sport hatchback. It has the pushbutton start as a person who”s always late because they can’t find their keys and then their phone it’s awesome to just grab my bag and go. Take the rails off dark grey with tinted windows and its adorable little car. I love hatchbacks the freaking outback and forester look more like station wagons to me. I like the sound of a boxer. I hope they don’t do away with their hatchbacks so few companies are keeping them around. After driving a mini van for 17 years why Would I want some mini suv thingy. I can clean up this car in less than two hours it’s small. And yes it is fun to drive. The CarPlay and blue tooth are sub par though. Do NOT put the car in gear BEFORE the CarPlay is connected in my car or it wont connect. And the blue tooth cuts in and out. The sport comes with more and nicer speakers. I enjoy it very much

WOW Scotty, I can't believe you changed your mind about Subarus. My wife has a 2017 Subaru wagon. It's design is well thought out. It rides and handles well and has very good gas mileage.. I would buy a Subaru now if they came out with a hardtop convertible to replace my 2008 Chrysler Sebring hardtop convertible which still runs well and has 185,000 miles on it. New Tech does not necessarily beat "tried and true" older and refined Technology. I prefer buttons and levers for most things in a car over what a touch screen has replaced. Old school hand brake and spare tire are also things that should not have disappeared.

I had a '14 CrossTrek and my wife had a '13 Impreza 5 door. The Impreza needed a quart of oil every 1500 miles, had the transmission replaced by the dealer when they botched the routine maintenance. Then the fuel pump died. Mine needed a rear driveshaft, left side catalytic converter and also consumed oil. Replaced wheel bearings early - they are a weak point - and just a variety of annoying issues. We've had 5 Scoobs between us, but these are the last two we will be getting. They just don't screw 'em together like they used to.

I am a Subaru tech, been working with them for nearly 2 years. Now with that said. The engine is great, there isn't anything bad to say about the 2.4T engine. The CVT in the Ascent, i've Seen too many of them get replaced at too low of mileage. Also the transfer clutch failures they have. The 1st signs of transfer clutch failure is a squeak when shifting from Reverse to Drive. Then it'll start shuddering on tight turns. Also they wear the tires out very fast, tires and alignments both need to be done often on the Ascents.

Thanks for the update on Subaru. Never had one, came close when Toyota partnered with them on the 4 banger sports car, but those engines.....What did you say? have to pull the Suby motor to work on all those non-gasketed, disintegrated silicon sealant oil leak points? I 'member you say the same thing about another Boxer motor, the 911, after you tried to fix a part in one with the motor still in the car. Afterwhich you asked a Porsche mechanic how he did it. He told you "just drop the damn motor!" to which you replied it would have been more expensive to fix if you had dropped the motor. But to paraphrase the Porsche mechanic's reply: If the customer can afford a Porsche (Suby), he can afford the labor expense to drop the motor to work on it. Meanwhile I am still smiling after this Suby review having bought a 2023 MADE IN JAPAN Toyota Corolla Hybrid in April 2023, paid MSRP - NO Markup of a grand sum of $25,524 charged by Toyota on the Moroney (I paid for the option package $1340 with the BSM and RCTA), yes, the hybrid could have been got cheaper un--optioned at MSRP $23,895! Alloy wheels on this Corolla too. On my last tank I got 60.5 mpg. A utube competitor of yours The Car Care Nut, a Toyota Technician, just tore down a same series model of this one with 341,000 miles being used as a delivery vehicle; not a drop of leaky oil on it and the hybrid system is still working perfectly with original battery pack! Yes, Toyota is facing higher supply chain prices just like Subaru, but Toyota still insists on installing million-mile, built-like-a-Rolex engines in their cars. But Like the Car Care nut has also demonstrated in another video, change your oil at LEAST every 5,000 miles, or you WILL scuff your cylinder walls when the engine oil loses its lubricating properties, long before the recommended 10,000 mile oil changes.

I’m on my fourth Subaru. We have a 2016 Forester with 61,000 miles with no problems. I bought a a 2014 Crosstrek and put 40,000 miles. Couldn’t stand the lack of power from the 2.0 liter engine, so I traded it in on a 2017 WRX. We moved to Northern Idaho. The WRX DIDN’t have enough ground clearance in the winter, so, I traded it in for a 21 Crosstrek Sport. The 2.5 is no WRX, it can get out of its own way. I can pass at will. It gets around great in the snow with the all wheel drive. It does have a keyless ignition but the batteries are simple to replace. Great cars, I used to be a Honda guy, but the Subarus are great cars…….

All but the transmission because I found a mechanic that does good work at half the price of the dealerships. But also because at this point, there's not much more that can go wrong & it's paid off. So it'll make a decent beater in the winter.

My 04 Forester had noticeable head gasket issues around 135k miles in 2020 but never blew, just leaked oil and coolant a bunch for a year or so. Had AC issues too, but the transmission always worked great.
@Hawkeye20
@Hawkeye20 Жыл бұрын
I caught my head gasket early enough where it didn't actually "blow" thankfully. But I bought it used, so I think if I could've replaced the "lifetime" transmission fluid regularly before the miles got too high, then I wouldn't have issues with it. Granted, they're not bad yet, just noticeable if you know what you're looking for.

I have a 2019 model- I even managed find it with a manual transmission! I need to take it in for a recall involving a coil pack, even though mine does not show the symptom of missfire. As to the silicone vs separate gasket thing, I guess time will tell. In my experience working on old motorcycles, and this is possibly due to the location of said gasket/sealer, I’ve seen more failures with gasket-sealed interfaces than I have with those sealed with glue. Gaskets seem to be important as an interface between dissimilar metals where I find more glue alone between castings that are the same metal on either side, notably in motorcycles, split engine cases.

Bought a new 2018 Subaru Forester and ended up hating that car. Seats like rocks, no room, black everything inside, visors that had to be replaced every six months due to the worst squeaking sound you ever heard - and the service department lied and said they'd never heard of that problem and I read online in chats about other people complaining bitterly about it. The squeak was so loud it actually hurt your fillings. The turbo engine started giving us problems with only 16,000 miles on it. Traded that piece of junk in for a 2016 Toyota Highlander and never looked back.
