Because when it all culminated in that final breakdown your face was priceless! Also i highly appreciate that you were not afraid to rewind and reabsorb the guitar solo, and final breakdown. Lorna Shore has some of if not the MOST tasteful, yet well suited solo's mixed in to all of their songs. I can pick almost any Lorna Shore song, Extract just the solo, and play it for someone who has 0 interest in this style of music, and those people will be blown away by the solo's and leave them asking who the band is. You Did Great man, no one was ready for this song, when it came out, it fucking shattered everything else around it. This in combination with Slaughter To Prevail's "Demolisher" came out within a year of each other, and they drastically changed the landscape of modern deathcore. It went from, in my opinion, a Dieing Genre, to the forefront of every metal head's playlist. So to say "I was not ready" is the norm on this one man, even for a lot of metal heads like myself. It is indeed time for the Trillogy. Do the whole trilogy, with lyrics on screen. Someone on youtube has cut all three videos together, with lyrics, this is the next reaction. for sure.

I’ve been listening to this type of music for close to 40 years now. (As long as I can remember) I don’t always understand the lyrics right away, but generally it’s much easier as you listen to it more. Also, as others have said, the vocals are more like an extra instrument. Although, the lyrics are important to the overall story of the song, not understanding them right away doesn’t take away from it. As for the drummer. Austin Archey does use triggers, but it’s really more so he can get a more consistent sounds from his base drum. He’s using a heel-toe technique, coupled with triggers. When you’re going that fast, the heel hits will still be powerful, but the toe hits aren’t going to hit quite so hard, so the triggers just balance that out. Also, as others have said. It’s time for the Pain Remains trilogy. I’d suggest doing all 3 at once, with lyrics if you can. Have tissues handy.

So glad you got this unblocked! The song is literally about a soul descending to Hell. I'm not too much into different labels, but LS are considered deathcore. Their trilogy Pain Remains 1-3 is something as rare as emotional deathcore. Check it out (but bring tissues)!

Austin uses footblaster triggers, which are actually on the kick pedal rather than attached to the drum head. Helps to prevent accidental triggering since the triggers gotta be super sensitive for these speeds. Also, yes, for the faster double bass he's doing double strokes. I'm gonna also jump on what some other commenters have said and suggest you do something like Sun//Eater before hitting the Pain Remains Trilogy. I think it's better to hear more of what Lorna has to offer before jumping into a 20 minute song from them, especially given how much of a departure Pain Remains is from basically the rest of their songs. And yes, when you do Pain Remains, you should do all three at the same time. It's just how it was meant to be heard.

For me, the more i listen to things like Lorna shore, the more i understand the words without looking them up. But i also see the vocals as another instrument, even when i didn't understand it, the vocals express so much. I recommend the pain remains trilogy but them. This is how you introduce a new vocalist. Will made me love deathcore. So Lorna will always have a special place in my heart! :) The chorus on this track is huge and so catchy! I love IT :D

I don't know if anyone else answered this yet or not, but the name of the genre of music they play, I believe, is Symphonic Blackened Deathcore.

I've listened to metal for a long time. So I can understand a lot more than someone hearing it for the first time. I still read the lyrics usually my second listen through and then once you've read the lyrics you can almost hear everything crystal clear. Especially the more you listen to the song you can pick up where things are and how each metal artist in their own way pronunciates everything. Also Slaughter to Prevail his lyrics are half English and half Russian. So naturally i don't know Russian but i like to pretend I do when I'm jamming. But Lorna Shore definitely is my go to metal band right now. I can't not get hyped or goosebumps when I listen. I also think the drummer did a solo run of this song to showcase how he does what he does if you wanna check that out. Slaughter to Prevails drummer is a robot and produces amazing blast beats with the kick drum. I believe the drummer for Lorna Shore is also just a beast lmao. But I could be completely wrong.

For me its like learning the language of each individual vocalist, Take Will Ramos, and Alex Terrible for example. They are two WILDLY Different speakers, There are massive differences in how Will pronounces a word and how Alex will pronounce the same word. You could compare them now, because both Will and Alex have Performed Pain Remains I: Dancing like flames. But first you need to react to the Original Pain Remains Trilogy AS A WHOLE. There is a youtube video where all three videos have been cut into one continuous video WITH LYRICS over layed on the video. This is the best way to react to the Pain Remains Trilogy.

Deathcore fan here, over time you learn almost like it’s another language. I tell people starting to listen to hear the vocals as another instrument then go back and listen with the lyrics pulled up. The lyrics are really deep in a lot of deathcore songs .

Their symphonic elements are great. They really give off good ole power metal vibes and i love it.

I'll chime in on the question about understanding lyrics - I juuust started dipping my toes into deathcore, probably a month or two ago. I started with Slaughter to Prevail, and did what you're doing here - followed along with lyrics in front of me to understand what they're saying. For them, obviously kinda hard since, yanno, Russian. But here for Lorna Shore, I just started listening to them THIS WEEK, and having the lyrics in front of me gave me a deeper understanding of the songs and allowed me to really take in the music, breaking that barrier down of "I can't even understand what he's saying, don't think this is for me." I've now listened to their latest album around 6-8 times over...just this week. Having those lyrics on Spotify going helped me to love their music.

my opinion for me as a metal heads is, the reason why some people do love this kind of music it’s because the tension from all musical instrument in it. it kinda like gave us a darkness emotion at the same time, especially when the breakdown’s pops out, like a ‘drop’ in edm, it’s kinda give us more tension/emotion to feel the darkness.. btw loved your reaction🤘🔥

I don't think I'll ever understand all the lyrics on a first listen but the longer I listen to this kind of stuff the more words will be understandable on a first listen.

In this genre its pretty much the norm for drummers to use triggers. Also I think the drummer, Austin Archey, is using a heel toe technique don't quote me on that, but he has a live play through of a few of Lorna Shore's songs he is a BEAST.

I had to read lyrics and then I’ll never not understand the song. That was a big part of why I never got into this kind of music when I was younger (never read the lyrics) with “to the hellfire” that’s what I did and it opened up this entire genre to me.

Austin Archey is the drummer. I told you he sounds like he was made in a lab by drumming scientists. He does drum play throughs with Meinl cymbals. My favorite is "Into The Earth". I will warn you it is INFURIATING how calm he looks while he plays. This is blackened death metal/Deathcore. The choirs is a black metal element as well as the highness in his screams and then musically is more death metal. It's why I love them musically phenomenal and a mix of everything to the highest standard. And Will is just another level vocally. So glad you did this!!!

Oh and Live he can take the pig squeals far and beyond Will, is a whole new level bro

Of you haven't watched Chris Turner, the drummer from Oceans Ate Alaska, he is know as the cyborg because of his freakishly precise drumming, without using triggers or post production to adjust his album recordings

When it comes to understanding the lyrics, it usually depends on the band. Some vocalists are easier to understand than others, but I always give the lyrics a read over along with the song and that's usually enough to let me understand everything on later listens.

May not be a popular pick, but Will Ramos covers a song by Chelsea Grin called Recreant, with Nik Nocturnal. The mix on it is really amazing where you can hear the totality of his range, he does a series of crazy growls, snarls and highs and you can see closely a bunch of the mouth shapes he makes to generate those sounds since he films it in his studio. You don't need to know the original song to appreciate how monstrous he is in this cover.

The lyrics are understandable with time, you can hear them or tbh sometimes its just not happening especially if said lyrics are not enunciated for the sake of sounding cool. What you said fits so well, its like learning a new language. Great vid!

I started with old school heavy metal, then graduated to classic modern death metal like Cannibal Corpse, and when I could understand those lyrics, I got into Deathcore through this band and Metalcore through Jinjer and Trivium. You've got a great lovely musical journey ahead of you! And yeah, once you can understand the lyrics, don't listen to Infant Annihilator unless you're prepared because the name matches the content...I learned that while listening at work because i couldn't ever understand it until i did... 😅

For Death Metal at least for me, it's all about how long you hear the singer do the vocals along with the lyrics where you'll start to pick up what they're saying. Then whenever a new song is out you'll understand more and more how they like to pronounce their words. But it's not always a 100% understanding more like 80 or 90% with some wrong words.

When you learn the individuals vocal style (yes like a different language) it becomes natural understanding.

Symphonic deathcore at it's best. Each of these gentlemen, including Michael Yager not yet in the band, are virtuosi on there instruments. Austin does use triggers, definitely check out his drum playthroughs on the Meinl Cymbal channel. Adam is a magnificent guitarist, and is the primary music writer. Again, great playthroughs on KZfaq. Will is , as I read once, like being handed a hyperactive puppy. Real nice guy to talk to, total sweetheart. When I saw Lorna in concert, this was the encore. They had already played over an hour, including the entire 20 minute "Pain Remains" Trilogy. Even if it isn't your cup of tea, it's amazing to see that much musical skill take place in real time. As to the lyrics, I have only been listening to stuff this heavy for about 4 years, and always have to read the lyrics. Kinda like going to the opera and not understanding the language it's sung in. Have to read the libretto.

Understanding the words is a process lol I've been listening to stuff like this for 15 years and sometimes you can figure it out. The thing is with each vocalist, they have their own unique cadence and influxes on top of their own lyric writing styles. Once you kinda figure that out, you can start picking words out more and more. Then you move to the next band and start that all over lol

I don't always understand the lyrics; but it's not always about the words as it is the raw emotions the song evokes. Now.. a beast on stage; but that dude is the most homiest of homies. Golden Retriever energy. Alex Terrible is the same way. I got to meet Alex and the gang and it's night and day from off and on stage.

I would say, that Lorna Shore falls under symphonic deathcore.

No one really understands the lyrics without looking them up. But having lyrics at hand until you can hear them without help is an age old custom in metal music. And in opera, too.

Im gonna say, i can probably pick up 70-80% of the lyrical content before having to look up lyrics, but some bands are harder than some, i feel like Will articulates his vocals really well and makes it alot easier! :)

To answer your lyric question. First time stopping by your channel. Drummer myself. Subbed. Brand new album - I can understand some stuff first time through. Most of takes a few listens. Plus, for me personally; highs are a bit tougher than mids and lows. Overall, I tend to treat the vocals as an instrument in themselves.

It takes a couple of listens for to understand the lyrics to deathcore songs because each vocalist has a different inflection with their voice but once you figure that out the words make sense.

The song's about dying and descending into hell. Also Austin Archey (the drummer) rolls heel-toe to get those robotically precise kicks. Their lyrics are super poetic and if you like albums having an overall theme or story, the whole Pain Remains album tells a really cool tale about a man who enters a lucid dream and leaves the world behind to become a god - but there are consequences and realizations he faces. I looked it up and Austin (their drummer) uses a Footblaster Drum Trigger System No idea what that means cause I'm not a drummer but I saw "trigger" and assumed that's what you were talking about Also Lorna Shore is something along the lines of blackened symphonic deathcore, in other words they're mainly deathcore with elements of black metal and symphony

I'm not a fan of Deathcore, but i was on a festival a few years ago and Lorna Shore was playing, and of cause I knew the Hellfire Video and the hype, and i only went to the Gig to make sure that Will doesn't have Horns and a Tail for one song so he's not the devil in disguise. Stayed the whole concert, because it was amazing. On the technical base this band is just top notch and Will is a beast but beside that he's a very kind and genuine person. Austin Archey, the Drummer is not of this world, he kept the tempo the whole set, drumming like it was nothing. Brutal as f*ck but mesmerizing. Like the rest stated.. Pain Remains Trilogy next - it's a wild journey and a masterpiece second to none. (Keep your handkerchiefs close ;) )

I'd say it is kinda like learning a language. With more distorted stuff like this I find myself having to look up lyrics more often but I definitely can pick stuff out without having to. That being said for less distorted screaming I can definitely understand 90% of it without looking anything up. You for sure can develop an ear for it.

I understand 80-90% of the lyrics from most harsh vocalists, but I have been listening to all genres of metal since the 90's. It's like a dialect, you have to pick up the speed, cadence and patterns and then it becomes fairly clear. Will Ramos(and others) does just make brutal sound sometimes, he does it like 3-4 times in this song, but most of this is as clear as if I was reading it.
