As an American, I’m going to say we have a mess, too. Maybe even bigger. But our populations are mostly ignorant especially about other parts of the world. Good luck on even finding anyone who speaks English or knows anything. The smart ones are in the rural parts and small towns who haven’t fallen for the media propaganda. Speak slowly because most have never heard your accent before.

I think you'll find it's exactly the same in the USA, in fact throughout Western civilisation. I 'abandoned ship' on retirement and moved to the Far East as I'd suggest that's where the future lies. It's not perfect but they've retained their culture and manners and generally have no truck with foreigners try to impose their customs upon them. That said in Singapore & Malaysia multi-culturalism seems to work, in Thailand & Philippines they are happy & friendly but you do not want to end up in prison and China & Japan I've never seen as hostile. Asian ladies are polite, often slim & elegant, and have impeccable manners. I certainly feel safer in China than the USA and you can walk, in safety, anywhere with an unarmed police force. But cross the line, you'll know it!

And what about the Islamist wars in Southern Thailand and the Philippines ? What about Christians being murdered in Indonesia ? Are you happy that genital butchery of young girls goes on routinely in Indonesia and Malaysia ? Burma is in a state of armed rebellion with a terrorist government in the capital. In Laos, at least one child a week loses an arm or a leg from cluster munitions dropped on this neutral country by American criminals 70+ years ago. Children still die regularly in Vietnam from American munitions. Pirates abound on the seas and the situation in the South China Sea is a powder keg. Although easily cured these days if caught early enough, bubonic plague and leprosy are far more common than governments in the area care to admit.

I'm nearly seventy and probably won't leave the UK now, but if I was younger I would not want to stay, the reason I went to the far east in the eighties was due to the run down state of Britain then, it's far worse now.

I spent a lot of time in the US in the 80's and 90's. Very friendly, hospitable people but very insular, and many have no clue what is going on outside the US. The baseball 'World' series is just American teams, with a couple of Canadian teams thrown in. 52% of Americans don't have a passport. This should be interesting.

Totally agree. Many years ago i flew to Houston (from the UK)and drove to San Francisco. Texans were the best and it got worse the further west i went. Even the Texan police were really polite .(got stopped in the middle of nowhere by a local sheriff with a speed gun,who thought i was German,because of the "GB"on my licence).Also got pulled in El Paso as the hire car's licence tag was out of date. The cop suggested i called into the judge's house and sorted it out ,as it was on my way. This was 5pm on a Saturday! I didn't visit him. Even then California was not that pleasant.

Paul, I am an American. You are going to encounter almost unanimous ignorance regarding the situation in the UK. Even though our problems are similar, indeed the entire West, America is so large and so distant, separated by two oceans, as citizens we tend to be rather inward looking (unfortunately). In order to get the average Americans opinion on the state of affairs in the UK, with few exceptions, you'll first have to inform them. Enjoy your travels, use your street smarts, and avoid dodgy areas (I could elaborate but I don't want this post removed for racism). We are no longer a homogenous first world country. We have pockets of first world, second world, and the third world in every city in the country.
@igottheshaft
@igottheshaft 28 күн бұрын
If I could elaborate a bit on "gun crime" here, well lets just say that is indeed the instrument that is used (not so much knives). If you were to look at the rate per capita of gun related violence, however, you'll find that White Americans have the same rate as the Netherlands. Of course there are exceptions to every rule, but that information should hopefully prepare you mentally on how to navigate the streets. Okay, enough said.

The American's never show any interest in the UK apart from the royals,plus they themselves have a lot of immigration issues and cost of living so I don't think Paul will have much response from the people in the US.
@igottheshaft
@igottheshaft 28 күн бұрын
Nobody here ever thinks about the UK, for the most part. The only news we get, against our will, are the royals occasionally plastered all over our tabloids, which is bizarre because Americans strongly dislike royalty in general. Not to worry though, because the coverage is not as relentless as for you, and the next day at the super market it will be some other tabloid trash. Americans don't like royalty, don't give a shit about royalty, and the only reason you think we do is because when you come over here, it's the only thing we know to politely discuss. It's also sort of the defining difference between us. Most Americans could care less about soccer either, so I expect the conversations will be about you drinking tea, the royals, maybe Harry Potter, and your accents. I really only responded here to clear up any confusion that we are genuinely interested in the royals - we are not. The coverage of the royals appeared out of the blue one day, and was foisted on us, without genuine desire. Sort of like diversity in advertising, it was jarring at first, and you are left wondering why? I personally despise Harry after he criticized our first amendment right to free speech as 'bonkers,' what an entitled, worthless little cunt. I wish all coverage of the royals would forever cease in America, we've earned it.

The difference between the UK and the US is this. The UK imports 46% of the food it consumes. If they didn't buy from abroad the Brits would starve in short order. The US produces enough food to feed itself and exports fruits, vegetables, grain and dairy produces to almost every part of the world. Of course one of the reasons why our agriculture is so competitive is that it's dependent on cheep labor provided by undocumented workers from Latin America. You might want to think about that the next time you buy a tin of California almonds or a bottle of Napa Valley wine.

Albeit 10 years ago, I went to New York. I felt far safer there than in London, even after dark. Although it was winter, so wasn't very late in the day darkness.

i recommend renting an RV, starting in a good state like Florida maybe and going up north to the worse, states. You'll notice the northern states are bad till the mid west where it's dominantly white

Why It's being forced out and replaced in major metropolitan cities is a glo ball phenomenon. It isn't just happening in Great Britain. It's happening in America, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Sweden, and probably a lot of other places except for Hungary as far as I know.
