Lovely Leslie Parrish (dubbed by Imogene Lynn) and Stubby Kaye sing this song of aging love in the musical LI'L ABNER. Enjoy!!!

Agreed! However, the movie you see now is cut to pieces, two of my favourite songs were completely cut out. That is Progress is the root of all evil and oh happy day, plus, part of The country's in the very best of hands and the matrimonial stomp have been cut to pieces, almost half of those songs gone. 😢 I'm so glad I kept the record.

That "you is pushing 18" line really made me laugh. I have a friend 20 years my junior who is like this. Great song.

WOW! I haven't heard this song in at least 40 years, but I never forgot it. Sir Graves Ghastly used to play the part starting around 1:38 each week for his "You've Past Your Prime" club on TV. Viewers would send in their photos and ages and he'd show them while this played. Some of the "past prime" viewers were really old, others were hilariously young! It was so much fun. I had no idea it was from "Lil Abner" - I just figured it was one of the Spike Jones records he occasionally played. Happy memories!

In doing my family tree research, I just found out last week that the gal actually doing the singing, Imogene Lynn, was my cousin. I had lunch with her brother Max last summer. He just happened to mention her in an email yesterday. I had no idea, pretty cool. You can actually see Imogene in another You Tube video by searching using "Imogene Lynn - Big Boy". She is singing with the Ray McKinley Orchestra.

At least they haven't cut this song to pieces, or cut them completely out, like they've done with the DVD you can get now. Two of my favourites are completely gone, oh happy day (the scientists song) and progress is the route of all evil (General Bullmoose's song). Glad I still have the original soundtrack on record with all of it there. Songs that had chunks cut out are The country's in the very best of hands, Jubilation T Cornpone and the matrimonial stomp. So disappointing!

We proposed "Lil Abner" as our senior play (high school). The principal vetoed it because of this song and the costumes. Today, this would be considered tame.
@John_Alford Жыл бұрын
It was the first high school production I "teched", mainly lights and backstage during the shows. And yes, "Put 'em back (the way they was)" was considered a bit risque' for our school...

1. Stubby had two great performances in the 1950- this and Guys and Dolls. I used to look forward to him being on the game show Stump the Stars. He was great at charades. 2. You can't write this type of song today as the pronounciation in a good portion sounds like the stereotype used against Blacks. It would have to be cleaned up.

This girley is quite good in this role of daisy mae...but I think I prefer the role better played by Martha O"Driscoll...from the 1940's t/v show lil abner ...b/c her beauty didn't over shadow the behavior of dasiey mae being a desperate man trapper of Abner.. this girls good looks make ya say why on earth would she even want lil abner's mountain boy country butt..

Very superficial view of Capp's material and typical of what you find on MySpace. You're obviously unfamiliar with Capp and don't "get it." Capp made many political statements here which have obviously gone right over your head.
