people’s ignorant reactions to OCD themes is exactly WHY people don’t get help. i know for myself i was terrified of talking about the SO-OCD and ROCD themes because i was afraid of being perceived as a dumb homophobe. i can only imagine how POCD sufferers feel about their thoughts and experiences. OCD attacks what you LOVE, CHERISH, and VALUE. it is not the same thing as being a bigot or sociopath. your videos have made such an impact. people need to know that they’re not alone.

@@slugbro2883 understandable, friend! you don’t have to reveal your themes to everyone, they have to earn that trust and vulnerability from you. but also, in ERP you learn that people don’t need to understand for you to be okay. it sounds awful and terrifying, but if someone thinks you’re gay or whatever sexual orientation you fear, that is something we have to sit with and know we will be okay regardless. it takes a ton of time but just know OCD wants constant certainty and by starving it from it, we get better ❤️

No matter what type of thoughts are invading your mind, if it is OCD they are not a part of you. If someone is riding in a car and a thought pops in to take control of the steering wheel and you are hit with anxiety over that thought it’s because you are truly disturbed by that, “why did I think that? Does it mean I want to do that?” The answer is no but OCD will continue its attack on you by making you question that. Someone who would do that won’t have anxiety over that thought, they might ruminate in it. It’s like an enemy with access to your mind who can find the best weapons to attack you with. This can be overcome, you’re not crazy and there is a normal life ahead of you without all this noise in your life. God bless.

That is so hard and you are amazing. Even though you are still working through this, you have enough heart/care for both yourself and others to bravely open up and put this out there in order to heal, encourage others, and call out this boorish behavior. There is never an excuse for inciting violence like this and that person should absolutely be banned. You are strong and awesome and while it's a highly regrettable circumstance, it's still freaking fantastic to see a therapist actually doing the hard work in front of us and not just spouting recommendations when they're not currently in the pit. Congratulations at proving that you are the real deal and you're not afraid to do the hardest thing. Having thoughts about harming others or doing something doesn't mean you really want that for them. The fact that you feel tormented by those thoughts is proof that thats not who you are. Wow. This made me really emotional for so many reasons. OCD nearly took my life multiple times before I was diagnosed just this year, at the age of 30, while I've had it my entire life. The person who made that comment has no idea how damaging and reckless and HARMFUL it was, especially someone with such a large platform. I am so sorry you had to go through this on such a massive scale, I can't imagine the toll that would take. I hope for a world one day where OCD is destigmatized and understood better. I recently found out through an obituary that my OCD therapist who helped me through the worst of my OCD passed away. It was a complete shock and I still don't know what happened. I still have our last conversation on NOCD saved, this is the last message he sent me that I would like to share: "Keep using ERP and don't let the down days take over. Keep pushing thru!"

I could not trust crowder for anything in good faith after that.

I’m so, so sorry this happened to you. Your videos saved me from some of the darkest moments of my life and led to me finally getting a diagnosis and the help I’d needed for almost 20 years. And I know I’m just one in a sea of others you’ve so positively impacted. I just want to express my appreciation and gratitude for all that you do. Thank you. And thank you for sharing your story. I wish you the best as you continue to heal!

Thank you for sharing your story. The stigma around medications is hard for sure. I weaned off some already but debate needing another kind. I’m adding to my mind set that everyone’s just winging it. Thank you 🙏🏻

Nathan, you offer so so much help to so many people - this just highlights how desperately more awareness is needed around this subtype of OCD, which in my experience is one of the MOST COMMON and least discussed. You change lives, keep going and we can keep going with you ❤️
