I'm Sick of Arrogant Luxury Brands!

I keep finding myself thinking about the concept of luxury and how certain brands achieve that label. Because when you take a closer look, most of the brands that are called luxury today are not luxurious at all. And you know what? It’s quite frustrating.
Most of these brands are so snobby and arrogant that you feel like they don’t even need us, the customers, to shop from them and it’s ridiculous. It makes us feel so inferior that we automatically assume this must be because their brands are SO luxurious. Lol. But believe me when I say, this is just the tip of the iceberg. There is a lot more to unpack when it comes to the artificial snobbery of luxury brands. Today I want to talk about real customer experiences, complaints and explain why these brands act the way they do. Because it’s a part of their identity and I hate it to the bone.

I can't see these brands anymore: everybody out there is wearing the same bag, and brands like Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, are the brands that have the most fakes and replicas that killed the brand. Sometimes the replicas are better than the brand itself, so these brands have lost a lot of their value. For me, these are not luxury brands, but bags that i am tired of seeing. As for Hermes: God this handbag is suit my grandma style. its such a boring bag.

Absolutely right! Add to that, they're all over the second hand market--accessible in price and availability. Nothing special about them. And those that can afford a brand new contemporary bag can also afford a second hand "luxury" bag, but many people are just not interested in these so-called "luxury" bags, precisely for the reasons you've stated. After a while, certain styles, prints, and labels just start looking vulgar--no matter how expensive.

It is not about the bags, but on sunday I visited the Cartier store in our country wearing jeans, sneakers and casual T-shirt. I did not buy anything, I only wanted to change the cord on my trinity bracelet, which I bought preloved by the way. They were super nice and polite 😊

I got silent treatment in LV store in Maui Hawaii a few years ago. My husband wants me to pick a gift for our wedding anniversary. We have a mutual agreement to go shopping for gifts together to avoid disappointment and returns. The SA was showing wallets to a guy dressed in business attire and tie. We were dressed as vacationers going to a beach - shorts and tees. She looked at us briefly and kept talking to a guy avoiding eye contact with us, without saying any words of greeting. We felt unwelcome and left. We went to Gucci store afterwords, still dressed the same. SA greeted us, suggested products, and after we picked a handbag we were treated with 2 glasses of Prosecco while waiting for a processing of the sale. I guess the rules are different from store to store. But I still don't understand why should I dressed up for a sales person to approve or disapprove my appearance.

I have gone into Chanel in jeans and a T-shirt with my YSL and have been treated AMAZINGLY by multiple reps. I asked to see what classic flap they had and they took them out of the back, showed me them and let me unpackage/try them on a talked about the products for half an hour, I've had two reps do this. Might have been because of my bag, but I was wearing my beat up Vans. I always go into luxury stores casual. If I'm wearing designer clothes, they just treat me better (offer me a beverage immediately and every rep will compliment you). Never have I had a better experience than when I wear my jumbo classic flap, so it's definitely based upon the brand names you wear to an extent and not just your attire.

Every Fendi store I’ve ever been in has always been welcoming. I’ve been to two Miami stores-Aventura and Bal Harbor quite often. I recently went to the Fendi store in New Orleans at the Canal Street mall. The SAs were very kind. And yes, since I was a 20 year old, I’ve been a Fendi fan and own several bags including travel bags. I’m now 60.

I am currently on my Hermes journey for getting a birkin and I can say that the way they treat customers in order to catch resellers is really rude. Their boutique manager got involved with me once, and questioned me even though I’m not a reseller and have basically just sold one Hermes bag. 😬

i went to LV DC- Chevy chase in Saks 5th Ave, after my doctor appointment, it was at the same parking lot, i looked really terrible, one of the days you feel you are at your low point, and you show you are there (deformed red sweats etc..)...yeah, that day... sales rep. and all the other members were so welcoming,. They were kind, it felt really good, my sales rep. found the bag i was looking for and told me the history of the brand, showed me other staff etc....Not all stores are same.

I do believe that this is part of their marketing strategy to stay „aspirational“ to people who can just afford their products. So it feels like entering a exclusive club when you buy something. That people are treated differently when wearing designer is a real thing and I don’t like it, to be honest. I once went to a small boutique and the owner held this speech on how Birkins and other status symbol luxury brand bags don’t impress them, but then proceeded to suck up to my friend who was carrying a Birkin. We others with no branded clothes were treated quite rudely, like we didnt know how to dress ourselves. We were a group of fashion students and they knew that.

I remember years ago when I went to Saks fifth Ave and SOME of the sales Associates were kind of rude even in 2004 when I went to the dooney and bourke store on Madison Avenue before they closed and moved them to Woodbury commons the sales Associates were very rude and in both cases i spent more than 600 dollars both trips each time but I've seen some of the cheapest stores Like the local discount store be very nasty to people no matter how they were dressed.

Dooney and Bourke are not a luxury brand at all. Their bag prices are mostly $300 and they have luggage bags around $600. The mid range brands start around $1000 and on up to ridiculous luxury prices like Hermes. I just recently got a Dooney and Bourke purse 1/2 off for around $150. That’s economy, not luxury. It’s as well made as the higher priced brands. It’s the logo. It lets everyone know how much you paid for your bag. Women in general are willing to pay a lot of money to show that they are well off.

The worst LV experience was at the LV store inside Holt Renfrew at Yorkdale mall Toronto Canada. This was in summer 2023 and they want us to wait for SA. Let us wait for 30 min before someone even come to help u. Never again. The best service is at Chanel boutique at Bal Harbor Florida and Chanel in Yorjville Toronto. For LV service the LV boutique near the Regent hotel in Taipei was my best experience. Separate personal shopping area and tea service.

I usually wear certain clothes that represents clothes of the people coming from UAE , Qatar ,Saudi .and they immediately take us to show us the most expensive bags ( this kind of treatment must be based on previous clients who look like us and bought the whole store ) 😂 My friend on the other hand is form royal family who wears casual clothes. But she got ignored many time in hermes and complains about their treatment. Also , if you are wearing a birkin ( to stores other than Hermes ) they treat you way better , which is irritating . I noticed also that some people do not know how to interact with SA and treat them badly .

I wore Primark into Hermès, and the SAs didn't give shit and were actually very nice to me. I just had that super chilled attitude. I bought a scarf, had a lovely chat about styles with one of the SA, and he ended up offering to put me on the expedient list of the Birkin. I just laughed and said I'm too broke for it. And he laughed and said I don't blame you. I ended buying more scarves at later dates. Gucci is also usually nice. I never buy anything from them, but I used to. love chatting about fashion history and culture with the more cultured SAs. Chanel I didn't go in very much and now I don't buy luxury anymore. But what I enjoyed with Chanel was they left me be most of the time. That's how I like to shop.

Very True indeed. But my experience was of the same brand but different locations. LV in Starhill KL the SA preferred to give priority to foreign tourists. I felt like i didnt belang there. Whilst in LV KLCC store, the SA valued locals at par with expats. Poor Starhill. I paid KLCC cash RM12,000 for that trip. And it was in 2014 ! Iris, TQVM for your Professional and Impeccable Service!

🔥 The funny thing is that these noted brands are manufacturing their ready to wear and bags like fast fashion…. And even more interesting is that Dior is so inviting when they’re also owned by LVMH where they do have brands that snub customers. I do buy products from stores that I’m fairly certain I’d be snubbed at in person, but thanks to online that never happens.

As long as insecure folks respond well to being treated badly, these brands will continue to practice this successful psychological manipulation. My advice it to avoid them entirely. Very little of the price is reflected in the actual quality of their products; most of the money goes to marketing to create the illusion of "luxury". It is not luxury; it is overpriced.

I’m buying from these brands and the things I can see from some customers are chocking. It goes both ways let me tell you. I wouldn’t do their job, some clients are just a nightmare acting like they deserve the world because they want to buy a card holder. Fact is, it’s way easier when you make an appointment to these boutiques because you are sure they will take the time with you. Some days, they are not full staffed and they cannot accommodate everyone. It’s just the reality, we have to stop taking everything personal. It’s really not about the way you dress, there are other components. It feels luxurious to me but I’m also able to treat everyone well and I’m patient.

These brands are shooting themselves in the foot. Customer experience is key I don't care what business you are. If you don't have customers you don't have sales and there is so much that people are willing to put up with. I have been ignored even at mid-range stores and I have definitely made a case in point not to return there. Rich people are not dumb and they also disapprove of snobbery.

@AmyG90
@AmyG90 25 күн бұрын
Actually the middle class is their EXACT market, research shows that the majority of people who buy luxury items are middle class people. The luxury brands know this and actually market their products towards middle class people. But they still continue to judge by appearance because they're happy to take the money from the middle class but don't want to be associated with them, it's disgusting. You might say it's always been this way and what do you expect but it wasn't always this bad...it's just getting worse and worse..thankfully people seem to be waking up to their egotistical ways and judgemental attitudes to the middle class and are boycotting certain brands. Obviously it won't put them out of business anytime soon...but it will definitely impact their sales negativity and reveal the judgmental reputation that they're creating for themselves..much like Hermes and the Birkin bag...people are being turned off by the disgusting standards placed by Hermes in order to even get an appointment for a Birkin, many people are now snubbing them and are becoming disinterested in playing the luxury brands egomaniacal games.

If I just want to achieve a certain look, knockoffs and other mass merchandise work fine for Me. Besides, luxury brand consumers are often duped by misleading perceptions of high end brands possessing better ’ quality ’ though reality is the same items are manufactured in Third World sweatshops no different from the vast majority of other imported goods.

I think people also have to keep in mind. The staff really isn’t the brand even though that’s who we come in contact with. They are not wealthy and they are taken advantage of by the company. They are under a lot of pressure from both sides, the buyers and the sellers. There is a lot of theft that is occurring right now, and that can hit the sales staff very hard.

You need to understand that all of the Lux Brands have been bought up by and are owned by the same one corporation. Only the House of Hermes still stands and is an authentic family owned Luxury Brand. Corporations don't care about people. they care about profits. Quality has taken a back seat as well. If you think you're getting what you're paying for guess again. With an eye for detail, a background in the antique biz and a black belt in shopping, I can sniff out a fake like bloodhound at an airport. Don't just know what you like, recognize a standard as well. Knock offs show up everywhere. China has a huge hand in this. Sad to say like manners, decorum, gentility, and civility, Luxury may be a thing of the past. 1/2 the "luxury" of today looks like it belongs to Eurotrash. The calm, straightforward elegance and beauty is gone. Now designs are about as subtle as a graffittied wall in the Bronx.
