It's very much like a Gelato or Neocolor II's or Distress Crayons...all of these can be used with water for a watercolor effect..they work well on non porous surfaces too...love how this turned out

I agree with you Lauren. PencilStash, if you scribble some on wax paper and add water to it with a wet paint brush, then paint with it.

I bought a clearance set of 8 of these pens , without knowing anything about them. I was surprised! I’m glad to see you trying them. I ended up being “meh” about them myself.

I love how the antlers turned out, the design you made on them looks very nice. I have a few of these art crayons and also other similar brands. If you want to use with water, they dissolve better on paper coated with Gesso. (Use clear gesso for coloring books). You can also color on a plate and pick up the color with a waterbrush and paint it on the picture.

I was quite intrigued by these art crayons so I did some research. Looks like you can twist the tube to expose more product - just like a tube of lipstick and it’s retractable. You can also sharpen the crayon - for example with an exacto knife AND you can use the shavings. You can add water to the shavings or just smush it on paper with your finger. You can work the art crayon pigment by applying the product to an ink foam sponge applicator. You can also use a baby wipe to remove pigment from the page - particularly interesting with a stencil.

I have a few of these and think of them as water soluble oil pastels, a bit like gelatos or Neocolour IIs.

Those antlers turned out great! Before you discovered the crayon was water soluble, I kept trying to tell you, lol. It's very pretty.

Nice pic, but this was hard to watch. I kept trying to tell you the crayon turns upward, exposing more prod. Then trying to tell that the gamsol is not necessary, because it is a water soluble product, and when you used the Prismacolors to color in the white areas. I was just wait to see if you would ever figure it out. Although the gold pencil gave the antlers a nice texture. I still learned something.

I am very curious about this product now that you have demonstrated it. You got me with the metallic aspect and that it can work with water.

I think these Marabu Art Crayons are like the Faber Castell Gelatos. I believe they are used as watercolor, otherwise they smear. Not sure of them. I have a set of Artist Loft Water Soluble Art Crayons, and I think they are similar as well. I haven't used them much, so I'm just guessing...

This page turned out wonderfully. You did a great job with your own design on the antlers. I wonder if you would like this crayon better if you used it as watercolor? They seem very similar to Tim Holtz distress crayons. I will definitely check out your store

I was wondering the same. Why use gamsol, when it’s made to work with water? I thought I must have missed something.
@YourMajesty143
@YourMajesty143 3 жыл бұрын
@@Msboochie2 - Bc most coloring books aren't watercolor-friendly. Not only does the paper warp, but it pills and ruins the tooth of the paper. Adding water reduces the amount of layers you can put down, whereas Gamsol increases the paper's ability to take more layers. I buy watercolor pencils and water-soluble pastels *purposely* to be used with alcohol blenders, mineral spirits, or mineral oil. I hardly ever use water, unless I have the paper medium specifically designed to accept water. My water brush pen gets filled with alcohol instead of water. It's a liquid either way, so who cares? Art has always been about being creative & breaking the rules.

@@YourMajesty143 thanks for the tip about adding alcohol to the waterbrush. But my next thought would be what's the difference between doing that and using a alcohol blender marker, or the "colorless blender markers" that come with some alcohol marker sets? What type of alcohol because I'm honestly trying to buy some but I see they have different types of rubbing alcohol and also isopropyl alcohol at the the store and im unsure if there the same or what percentage to get etc? I want to use it to blend wax based pencils and also with my watercolors and water soluble markers to create different effects. I have oil pastels and silky crayons and want to experiment with the alcohol on those as well.

They do not seem versatile at all. I’ve seen other videos on them and and how to use them and seem to not do anything really well. Marabu should drop their prices to about 50 cents a stick for these.

Shame it contains so much single use plastic compared to traditional coloured pencils or watercolours.
