Garden vlog for the second week of May. Almost finished getting my tomato and pepper seedlings in, and using a bunch of grow bags to put them in.

The older folks around here swear by putting a saucer of beer in the pot or garden where the slugs are causing problems. I'll be trying that as soon as I borrow some beer. Can't wait to watch your garden grow. Best wishes on your channel.

Thank you so much! I've heard that before too, come to think of it. I tried it once years ago but it turned out that slugs weren't the problem after all, in that situation. I may give that a go again. Thank you for the suggestion and for the kind comment! 💕

Hi, Angela! 🙋‍♀️ I feel you on the ongoing challenge of adding mulch to my garden pathways - in my case, woodchips. Very much needed and so beneficial, but it does take a lot of time. I try to do a section each day. Little by little, I tell myself... 😎 Your potatoes do look like they're super healthy. Great job! 👏👏👏 So many grow bags! Glad you found extra ones. It's always such a dilemma in the spring to try finding spots for all the seedlings! 😊 Your Oak Leaf Hydrangeas look fantastic. I've only been growing Hydrangeas for a couple of years, but I love them! (I have one OLH, and it's my favorite because of its fall colors.) Of course, I had to find a place here that only gets morning sun to make these plants happy. 😎 I'm using my grow bags again this year, mostly for tomatoes, but they take so much water and still tend toward dryness, so I've put in some ollas to keep the plants moist down by the roots. Yes, Lemon Balm and (my favorite!) Lemon Verbena smell incredibly amazing! Everyone should grow them! 🍋🍋🍋 Happy May Gardening!

Hi Kim! Thanks so much for stopping in! Little by little is the way to go on any big project these days, haha! The OLHs are gorgeous and I think I'd like to put a few more here and there around the property. I've never used an olla, but it sounds amazing! Have you used them in the past, and do they work well?

@@TheWoodlandGardener Yes, I've used ollas over the years in various containers, and they worked great. Over the winter though, I realized they would be an excellent way to help with my really big grow bags that dry out so quickly. So experimenting with that this summer. 😎

My experience tomatoes do not grow big in small bags. Surprised your using your smallest bags for tomatoes. Yes they grow but they don't get the big size they would in the ground or in much bigger bags or totes. I used a 40 one and planted and early girl and they stayed the size of a baseball just a lot smaller than normal size fruit.

I hear ya! I've grown them all kind of ways. The first time I grew tomatoes, it was in a 12 x 24 grow box, 2 plants per box, on our back deck when we lived in the city. Then when we moved here, I used 5 gallon buckets, before I had any raised beds. I found that they did well either way. Even now when I have several raised beds, it all comes down to numbers as far as who gets what container and trying to fit in everything I want to grow. Thanks so much for sharing your experience!
