Surviving Schizophrenia

Күн бұрын

Hello, Everyone! My name is Stephen. Welcome back to "Surviving Schizophrenia” and a new episode: The Transformative Power of Positivity in My Schizophrenia Journey.
Today, I want to share something deeply personal and transformative that has been an integral part of my journey in recovering from schizophrenia, especially over the last two years. It’s about the profound impact positivity has had on my life, a shift in mindset that I've come to realize is as vital as any medication or therapy session.
The Struggle with Negativity
For the longest time, my life was a battleground for my thoughts. Depression, anxiety, and stress were my constant companions, painting my world in shades of gray. My thoughts often spiraled into negativity, focusing on how my life seemed stagnant and how everything felt overwhelmingly terrible. This mental state was a dark place, feeding on itself, making it harder to see any light at the end of the tunnel.
A New Chapter: Positivity
The turning point came with the start of this KZfaq channel, "Surviving Schizophrenia." It became a beacon of hope, not just for me but for many of you who have joined me on this journey. I consciously decided to foster positivity in my content and my thought processes. This wasn't about ignoring the challenges or pretending they didn't exist. Instead, it was about reframing my perspective, focusing on the moments of joy, the small victories, and the power of a supportive community.
The Role of Community Support
The encouragement and positivity from all of you have been overwhelming. Every comment, like, and view has contributed to a sense of belonging, a community where we uplift each other. This support has been a cornerstone of my recovery, helping me to see myself in a more positive light and, importantly, to feel good about who I am and the progress I'm making.
Bouncing Back
Recovery is not a linear process. There are still days when I don't feel great when the shadows seem to lengthen. But now, I find it easier to bounce back, to shift my focus from despair to hope, from self-doubt to self-acceptance. This newfound resilience is something I attribute mainly to the positive mindset I've been cultivating.
Beyond Mental Health
Positivity has not just been a mental or emotional crutch. It has spurred me into action, encouraging me to return to physical activities and better care of my health. I've rediscovered the joy of being active, outdoors, and simply moving. This physical rejuvenation has gone hand in hand with my mental recovery, each reinforcing the other.
The Power of Doing
Running this channel has also redefined my sense of purpose and self-worth. Being productive and creating content that resonates with so many of you has given me a sense of accomplishment and confidence that I had lost for a long time. It's a reminder that I am capable of more than I ever thought possible, even with schizophrenia.
Gratitude and Looking Forward
As I continue this journey, I am grateful for every one of you. Your support has helped me survive; it has helped me thrive, see beyond my diagnosis, reclaim my life, and find joy in the journey. Together, we're building a community that celebrates recovery, resilience, and the power of a positive mindset.
Thank you for being a part of this journey. Your presence here, support, and positivity mean the world to me. Let's continue walking this path together, sharing our stories, struggles, and successes. Here's to a future where we can all feel happy, healthy, and hopeful.
Remember, it's okay to have down days, but let's not forget to look for the light, to celebrate our progress, and to support each other in every step of our recovery. Thank you for watching, being here, and making "Surviving Schizophrenia" a special place. Here’s to many more videos, walks, and discussions. Have a happy and healthy rest of your day, and I look forward to seeing you in the following video.

When I’m feeling down I end up using a therapy skill called “accumulate positive experiences” where I do one positive thing a day no matter how depressed I am. And at the end of the week I go “dang, I did fun stuff, it wasn’t so bad” and that helps me stay positive in a very… not positive situation. Love your perspective on this! Thanks for an awesome video!

Hi Stephen, I forgot where I first heard this but I love the whole idea that we are not our thoughts and our thoughts are not us. With the more negative thoughts - to hear what they have to say but not be too attached to them or let them affect us or define us. To let them go and just watch them float by like clouds. That whole idea has proven to be a big help to me. 🙂

yes, Stephen, well said. It's shifting our gaze. Shifting it to others and away from ourselves, making sure that our gaze is a benevolent one. If we did this for each other, Im sure the world would become a better place. We should perhaps remind ourselves daily that life is not about me but about us. Keep casting that beautiful benevolent gaze, Stephen. It's working wonders.

Stephen, another just natural virtual hug to you . For the people who don't have schizophrenia, you are the brightest, most mesmerizing star in the entire universe, and all problems in the world would be solved if we genuinely could FEEL like you do. You're really honest, brave, and sincere about what you say and just conveying that does such a good job to us who may or not be affected by schizophrenia understand what you have to go through. I wish I could send more than a virtual hug to display how I feel about you but if everyone were as kind and understanding as you, we'd already be in heaven

Hi Stephen, I am very grateful for your medications video. My son is in Invega injections and now the Clozapine. Clozapine is a miracle medication. He is doing so much better now with Clozapine. The doctor didn’t want to give it to my son. I had to insist and show that I really believed and wanted to try it. It worked! My adult son is back in school and getting good grades. He is also driving to school. He still has some false beliefs but he is doing much better than before Clozapine.

Useful video! Positive thoughts are few and far between in Schizophrenia. An increase in positivity may be one of the first signs that you are on the way to recovery or that your treatment is working. A Positive thought in Schizophrenia is like the first rainfall after a drought. it’s a sign of hope, of better things to come and you want it to last. The most effective positive thoughts for mental health recovery are those that challenge the negative ones. Take care everyone and thanks for the inspiring video Stephen! 👋❤

Great video Stephen. If I can have a little of your time I would like to share my thoughts. ❤ I don't know if you would agree with me, but from watching some of your videos I get the impression that you have great periods of time when you are firing on all cylinders, but then seem to face a set back or two. If you would agree with this, perhaps you might also agree that those set backs don't last long and you are back firing on all cylinders again. Personally like you mentioned in this video I think mind-set is half the battle... If we take note of the good periods it may help keep us focussed when we are experiencing not so good moments. Optimism keeps us hopeful and positively engaged in life, but don't do it for your subscribers do it for you and perhaps make a video based upon how you felt in those moments and the difference it made etc. The other thing around positive mind-set is being in the driving seat of our lives and being content we are on the right path and heading to a destination that makes us wiser and more knowledgeable around the areas that we hold as important in the present (short term and long term goals), and these should be based upon your own beliefs and values, not influenced by others' expectations placed upon your shoulders, whether that be individuals or society as a whole. I wonder where you are at regarding achieving what is important to you right now, and this isn't a judgement/opinion type of thing, but more pooling and sharing information that may lead to easier and faster progression (should that be your aim), and you have a whole loyal subscriber base here who would only be too happy to help including myself. 🙂Hope this message finds you well and has been of some help/use. Peace and respect Brother. ❤

The neurotransmitters that make you feel happy, content, and positive, as well as motivated and determined, are dopamine and serotonin. These are what anti-psychotic medications stop, which is only helpful if your levels are too high. But when they are taken long-term, these neurotransmitters run out, and you get an overproduction of prolactin, a female hormone. The result of that and low dopamine and serotonin is depression, lack of motivation, unhappiness, hallucinations, and suicidal thoughts. This is all easy to investigate. To improve your state of mind, anti-psychotic medications need to be stopped. If, after years, they have not cured you, then you don't need them anyway. A dopamine agonist is a medication that produces dopamine, and this would be more appropriate. I'm just being honest.

The censorship on KZfaq is out of control. If you were to type your experience in the comments google would delete your comment. You can’t even have individual experiences and type about them anymore without some fascist thinking you shouldn’t be heard. How do you feel about this problem and do you feel it could trigger someone’s schizophrenia into a paranoid delusion?
