I love this doll in many ways and she's SUCH an amazing, detailed high quality doll in.. some ways... but in others she leaves a LOT to be desired... I think this is one of those ones that I may actually vouch for leaving in box and that's a rare statement from me. If the weight of the light pink skirt on the hanfu had been better and it flowed more like the movie/more like an actual hanfu I would have had very little critique.

I’m anticipating the comments lol: I am fully aware that Hanfu use very thin and flowing fabrics and that the design in the movie is simplified to fit the art style and the animation so I’m aware that it flows differently from what it seems like the true garment would… but this was a limited edition $150 product and the designers tend to take liberties in interesting ways and, in some cases, make the movie design fit the materials and construction of a “true” historical garment… I feel this one missed the mark. I don’t mind the use of lighter, thinner fabrics when the choices make sense and don’t cheapen the product but I think the fabric choice on the skirt was a huge misstep and since it’s SUCH a large piece and forms the entire silhouette of the bottom half of the dress it is very distracting. I also think the reused face sculpt that doesn’t match the expression is shockingly lazy and disappointing. OTHER THAN THAT: I think she’s actually fantastic. The quality of every other piece is phenomenal. But with the price increase and the decrease in packaging quality and price I expect… better.

I think that pink fabric is supposed to duplicate silk dupioni, in which the slubby thread would be normal. It might not be snags.

To me they’ve never been worth their price with few exceptions so I never really go in expecting them to feel worth more than maybe like… $75 max… but this one really left me scratching my head more than any other. So many beautiful design decisions and great quality points but also several ones that just baffled me in such a bad way

What looks like “snags” in the upper dress fabric is actually called “slub” which is when threads of different sizes are used to weave a fabric, which you get when silk threads still contain part of the cocoon. Typically you see very pronounced slubbing in dupioni and shantung silk. ShopDisney almost always uses polyester for their dolls, so this is probably a poly shantung fabric meant to imitate the silk slub texture.

I really really wish we could get a Mulan doll in her blue dress from the end of the movie. It's my favorite of hers, and I feel like it encapsulates her character and journey more. I'm also not a fan of the face sculpt- the furrowed brows are weird, but also her face looks too ovular? In the movie, her face is pretty circular. Granted, her face changes shape when she's Ping so maybe they're trying to represent both faces idk.

I could be wrong, but I think the 150 dollar price point for the new LE dolls is there to curb demand. Before this I think the dolls were selling out pretty fast. The hike to 120 dollars kind of slowed it down but now the 150 dollars really slows it down. It's not like this would be an isolated incident. This has been happening with the Disney Parks for the past few years.

This doll is absolutely beautiful. I love Mulan and she very much reads Mulan to me. Overall, I think she’s in the spirit of the film and the designers honored the film. Love this doll. With that being said, she’s incredibly overpriced. I’m not really seeing anything that justifies the price point, though I am definitely seeing quality control things here and there that are disappointing. She’s currently still in stock. I know people love to read into it when a doll doesn’t sell out in minutes and the LE dolls haven’t really been selling out. Personally I’m just glad people who actually want her can get her instead of the scalpers. I would love to see a Jane Porter LE (and Classic Doll) if they continue the line.

Please god… I need a Jane. That’s exactly who I was referring to in the video when I mentioned wanting more characters… I’d be happy with JUST her… at least a classic doll? :( I prefer when they stay in stock longer. It doesn’t actually hurt their long time second hand values when they do, it usually increases them because the resellers don’t sit on dead stock for years and lower the prices

Say what you want about the materials but I feel like this doll is definitely more detailed and intricate than that Ariel doll they just released, yet they're the same price. At this point I don't even know what we're paying for. I'm content to only have the Ariel doll (which I bought using the $100 statement credit so I didn't even pay full price) and never buy another LE from them again.

Only Belle and Pocahontas are missing and you are all set! How exciting! You might have to go back and get the 2018 LE Pocahontas doll as I don't see Disney Store revisiting her, especially with the decline of the 17" Line in terms of sales. I'm still shocked that last year's 17" Snow White and Jasmine took a lot to sell out; they went through massive discounts and took time to sell out. Still, never say never. I can't wait for Disney Store to revisit Belle on her next anniversary.

I'm pretty sure that the 'snagged' fabric in her top is intentional. I have curtains that I got brand new that are from a similar material that have 'snags' running throughout the entire panel. The 'snags' are anywhere from 1-4 inches long and are varied in how close they are to each other (between 1/4 inch to 3 inches apart). Those 'snags' may not look as close to each other on doll clothing as compared to my curtains so they probably look less intentional due to the scale.

a lot of the recent disney LEs have been disappointing, but it’s a situation where “hey this is all we’re gonna get” so I grin and bare it , quality issues and all 🙃😭 them jumping to $150 after d23 was so horrid

I am curious what other hair fibre Disney uses if not nylon. I always thought it was nylon as well. I love this doll, but I also was very disappointed at the material used for the bottom skirt. I have a few more princesses to collect, so I hope they continue to make the 17” for a few more years! I need Elsa, Belle and Ariel….which just happen to be some of the most expensive to purchase on the second hand market. That Blue Dress Aurora you have was $119 at release. That's so crazy compared to what we are getting now. The dolls are still gorgeous (and im happy you have a Mulan for the group), but the price hikes have turned me off to the entire line sadly. I think they'll always make LE dolls, but priorities and consistency are definitely different now.

I love the 20th Anniversary Mulan, but I wasn't collecting 5 years ago. So, I was looking forward to this one, but even before I saw her out-of-the box, I had already decided she didn't look good enough to be worth it for me in Canada with all the costs of shipping from ShopDisney US. I think it's interesting that a doll can kind of radiate quality or not, even before you touch anything. The Disney Creative Soul dolls did a great job using the right materials in the right places to make an overall great impression while keeping the price reasonable, and they even went on sale. It's proably harder on a larger-scale doll because the costs are higher and the choices are magnified. However, until the day when maybe I can afford the 20th Mulan, I am glad I at least have the Ultimate Princess Mulan.

If th Disney princess Mulan dress you said is very different is the green/yellow one, it’s because it’s reflective of her “casual” dress from the beginning of the movie before the makeover!! Which I think is pretty good compromise between the themes of the movie but still giving a nice dress for merch. Anyway this doll is very lovely, and I really love the gorgeous pink flowy dress while holding the sword vibe, it speaks to me lol. If I hadn’t just bought Ariel’s LE I would totally go for Mulan! Your LE collection is amaaaaazing!!!

I totally agree that the price doesn't really match the quality. The one I got has such uneven stitching that it's kind of distracting. There are also places where the stitching runs over into other parts of the garment :( I wish I could return the one I got and get another one that has less flaws, but overall I love her design and think she is stunning. Love your reviews and knowledge of the dolls!

I love dolls in outfits like hanfus but i just couldnt justify the price on this. I have a kurhn doll from the chinese princess line and I dont feel like the quality of this doll is enough better than that one to justify being over $100 more expensive

I wasn't planning on getting her because she probably won't be available to buy in Europe (they only put a handful of dolls up on the way bsite so it's near impossible to get any of them), but now I'm definitely put off and warry of future collector releases...

@@domdom-hh9tx they already raised the price quite a lot and quality is iffy- some are great and some are not. There’s also design decisions that are… meh. Regardless I was correcting the statement you left on the other person’s comment. I don’t think it’s fair to dismiss their critique with “inflation” when that’s… not what’s happening here. It costs no extra in production to use a different sculpt on the face- they had to create new toolings anyways since this a new sculpt for the size. It would cost extra to use a different fabric for the skirt but not a $30 price increase per doll worth. Inflation as an explanation would be “wow, this doll is just as nice as the $120 doll fro three years ago but why am I paying $30 extra now?”

I think she’s pretty but it doesn’t really look like Mulan to me😭 I think it’s the face shape, for some reason I remember her having a more cutesy face🤧🤧
