Thank you for the driving tour of Kitty Hawk, NC, Timothy! I, too, like the town hall area of Kitty Hawk and, like you, I don't care for that four lane highway either. All those cookie-cutter houses near the beach lack character, and they all make the place look cluttered. A lot of people don't know this: The first powered, controlled, sustained flight took place 50 years before the Wright brothers in Paris, France, on September 24, 1852. French inventor Henri Giffard flew 15 miles with a steam engine mounted on a dirigible. He went nearly 100 times as far as the Wright brothers did.

Thanks for taking me along Timothy as I had not been there in probably 40 or so years. If you have plans to come down a little further South, we live right outside of Southport NC, which is a pretty neat place to visit.

We really appreciate your walking/talking tours- we love to travel and sure love NC & SC too, but at the moment due to responsibilities at home, we don’t have the ability to travel the way we would like and really enjoy the video tours to hold us over until we can check things out for ourselves! I don't like driving on Bypass either, dodging dolts darting in and outta restaurants. Beach road has totally different feel...

This is the town where The Wright Brothers tested their plane.

Yes, the area they tested their plane is now part of Kill Devil Hills. But that town did not exists at the time, so Kitty Hawk is given credit for where the first flights took place

I can remember as a kid from West Virginia,we rented a beachfront cottage there back in 1965 for $85 a week in that area,not sure exactly where it was in the Kitty Hawk,Cape Hatteras area.

I'd like to see it too. We use to go to Topsail almost every year for vacation back in the late 60's & 70's, and I can only imagine the change.
