I spent too much time smelling fragrances oil and up and told you the completely wrong definition of a flash point. The actual definition = The flash point of a volatile material is the lowest temperature at which its vapors ignite if given an ignition source. I was talking about burn off. That's when fragrance compounds reach boiling point and the scent starts dissipating. Still temperature related, still quality related, but not flash point. haha Thank you SO much for pointing this out so I could make a formal correction, I can't believe I didn't catch that in editing. haha

Right??? When she mentioned the possibility of doing this for Christmas, I got the most excited heartwarming feeling!! And that rarely happens anymore. Then again, you can ALWAYS count on Katie to bring the magic!! ^_^ Heck, I wouldn't mind it if she were to do a mini-edition of nothing but PIE flavors to commemorate autumn/harvest!! (I remember when you did lemon meringue pie SOAP last year!! Try candles this time!! Baked goods can make some of the BEST candles when they're done right!)

The flash point is actually just the temperature at which the vapors can ignite if exposed to direct flame - it’s more a caution for transport than anything.

Hi! Professional chandler here. Mica in candles can be kinda tricky, like Katie said. You have to use it very sparingly or it can make your candles burn weird. It can clog the wick, which keeps it from burning to the edges and you get the yucky tunnel down the middle. However, if you make wax melts for fun? Mica is amazing and sooooo fun! It can be beautiful if done right.

Hello! Another pro chandler here, from the UK! Micas and glitters in candles are actually against our UK (NCF) laws, such a shame because they look so beautiful 😭 Some makers do ignore this of course so you’ll see them pop up! I love to see our American/international buddies making them 🙌🏻

Glitter on the OUTside of candles is cute enough, and very popular when I was a child (anybody else remember the "treasure candles" with gems or money in them? those were often coated in glitter), enough so that I made several my self like that. But as a found out to my chagrin, you have to be very careful with it. If the glitter gets into the melted wax as the candle burns, it can clog the wick and put the candle out. OR if it's plastic glitter it can turn into a small fireball. But BOTH ways in my experience, while burning, it does NOT smell good.

Katie! Thank you for doing this! I just learned to make candles this summer, and made several citronella and peppermint essential oil candles to chase away mosquitoes. I was very happy with the results, and so was my son who spends most of his time outside. I'll now go to Candle Science and create an account so that once in settled in our new house (we're moving, it's a huge cluster and pain in my behind, but has to be done), I plan to make my own candles instead of buying them!

I bought my husband a cologne that smelled of bergamot and oud (I think it is Jo Malone, but not certain) and it is so yummy, I want to just curl up like a cat in his lap so I can just smell the cologne!

I really loved this video, I've been feeling like hot garbage lately and it was definitely a pick-me-up. My husband would love the smoke oud. I’m not normally a fan of pine or fur tree scents. There is one I like, but I can’t remember where it’s from. I love candles and wax cubes! I would like to see more of this type of video. I love the soap videos too, but it’s nice to have something a little different to watch from you.

My favorite fall fragrance / scent (I do not know if it can be or is a candle scent) is crisp leaf, it is exactly the scent of when you pick up a crisp leaf, crush it, and smell it. That is it. That is my scent.

I faithfully check in for the soap making, but am thoroughly enjoying the candle-making. My dear late aunt used to give my sister and me kits when we were kids (we're over 50 now) and I'm not sure I would have given any thought to making candles. Its important to teach children that they can do things! I'm making my list, as I see a candle-making Saturday in my future!

I just made my first candle & found out you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT about the wick stickers. The wicks I had didn't have them & OMG, THE STRUGGLE! I spent most of my experience thinking "KATIE WAS SO RIGHT!!!" XD
