After making a 2D, 3D and even a 4D game, there was only one thing left to do: a 1D game!
Technically it's a first person 2D game, where you have to race. The game is displayed on a LED strip that goes all around me. I steer by measuring the rotation of my stool using a phototransistor. That way I can race hands free!

However its kind of what Cpt Kirk did on the Kobayashi-Maru-Test. Adding color coding is basically re-introducing the 2nd dimension he took away from it at first, albeit in an unintuitive way. So yea, basically he cheated on his own goal. ha!

@@docredstone461 There was no rotary encoder. The gradient strip used to detect the players rotation is argued by Rubbel to have added another dimension. I don't think it counts as cheating, as that is simply the control system, and the game itself is still one dimensional. That is the argument Rubbel presented however.

@@juliewinchester1488 It's doable. Start by creating a world with a 4D object for example. Then project the entire object into a 3D axis system like you would when doing any transformation (exactly the same thing as viewing a 3D object on a 2D screen, just flatten the 3rd, or in this case 4th, dimension). While performing the transformation generate a color texture with rgb values corresponding to the distance each part of the 4D object was moved during the squish of the 4th dimension (the projection). This texture when applied to the flattened but still 3D model will describe how deep into the 4th dimension each part of the 3D model is. Idk what you're all on about with only having 2d vision. Yes, monitors are only 2d. But that doesn't matter. We can still move around in a 3D world and interpret 3 dimensional shapes even through 2d screens. If you also allow a second eye as with vr then we can interpret 3d depth even without movement. We can definitely see and distinguish all 3 dimensions in our world. Every 4D objects can be squished into a 3D shape in 4 different ways depending on which axis you choose to squish onto the others. It's exactly the same principle as projecting a 3D shape into 2D. You squish one of our 3 dimensions onto the other 2, as though you're viewing the object from far above or from the side far away etc. Finally painting the objects we see with some colors really isn't difficult.

@Lukas Sound implementation makes for a valid 1(+) Dimensional game. I can't find the reference anymore, but one of this kind was made on gameBoy in the past. It looked like a sonar, the player had to approach "things" while the screen only showed green growing lines on the edges. I can definitively think of a valid 2D game from a monosonic source, the frenquency acting as horizontal line, and volume as the vertical line. Given sounds are flattened (no "upper/below" deformation transmitted), a monosonic-paced sound game is 1D, and a stereosonic-paced game is just stereosonic-1D . Same for the led-strip of the op: it's1D, but each diode acts as a single independent information source; the game would still work with the only frontal 1 diode (if not so much greenish), given the more diodes are present, the more reference points the player has. TL;DR: no screen != no dimension, sound already acts as 1d information. A 0D-game is likely a game that closes itself when you launch it, or an uninteractive idle game like ProgressQuest (still featuring a 3D-lookalike interface, for what it's worth).
