Playing this gave me paper mario vibes. My take on kAN's question at 5:20: Its all about if that speed you retain is worth the added distance of taking the turn so wide. If there are boosters or the finish right after the turn it wont be worth it. If there's no way to gain speed for a while after the turn than the additional speed preserved will likely make up for the added distance travelled.

you should do a cheese competition so you send a bland track to opponent they sent you a bland track and for every cheese that gains them time they find in the track they gain a point. and they they try to add cheeses and for every cheese that isn't found in a public lobby they gain a point to the track create most points wins. what do you think?

I have an amazing idea for a track! Draw a track on a 2D plane, and then use invisible walls to make the actual track. That way it really IS a 2D track!

Ok, as a person who advocates controller 100% of the time, let me explain how I play racing games with a joystick. The stick only detects left and right in most driving games, so my biggest trick for precise turning is to always have the stick all the way forwards or backwards so there's no threshold. When the stick is in its default upright position, there's an initial force that it needs to move, and humans aren't exactly designed for such small incremental movements. So when you try to make such a small movement ,you end up overshooting it. So by pointing the stick forward or back, that force no longer needs to be applied and its easier to move it left and right by such tiny degrees. The friction with the plastic also helps the movement be more precise, especially if you wrap something around the stick like a rubber band or electrical tape. I've tried keyboard and I just can't play games with them. When I play games on my phone I connect a Bluetooth controller to it because touch controls are even worse than keyboard. I can't stand typing this on the touchscreen now.
