Hot caramelized sugar isn’t like boiling water. It doesn’t cool down instantly. It acts a lot like a chemical weapon and it will keep burning the skin once it’s on it. While a speck or droplet is common, a whole explosion would definitely warrant a hospital visit. But if this guy doesn’t have scars or visible burn marks on his face after he recovers I’d be genuinely surprised. An accident like that and somehow getting past it without scarring is a miraculous feat.
