Great build Dave! The simple clay sculpts end up taking up the most hours( in a good way). Polymer clay sculpting is the greatest post work stress buster there is!

Great sculpt! Don't lose that handmade touch by going 3D render, mold and cast it!
@DRToysCreations

That’s where I’m torn… I stink at mold making and they are a tone of small undercuts that would be a nightmare. But I’m totally with you, I don’t want to lose the hand created feel! I may do a hybrid sculpt it first so I understand the 3D shape then do it a second time in 3D software to make duplicates. I definitely won’t give up the hand sculpting because selfishly that’s for me to relax and create with my hands.😃 Thanks

@@DRToysCreationsif it helps, for simpler stuff you can try Sculptris. Its free, pretty easy to use however it IS a bit limited in its scope. Could be a good program though to make a rough shape for a project and then transfer that to a more robust app to finish it off. Looking forward to seeing your practise pieces, sir!

I like to go over my sculptures with a brush and either 90 percent rubbing alcohol or if I really want to get aggressive, use lighter fluid to smooth over the surface of the clay. Just make sure to let the sculpture dry out before you bake it lol! Nice work on the sculpt!

I've also seen sculptors (like Ace of Clay here on KZfaq) cure their sculpts in stages. So you create the body itself and bake it, then you can add details without distorting the base form.

An excellent sculpt! I like how his expression is of "mild annoyance" as if he's seeing something we're not that, to us would be an absolute nightmare, but to his little horned self is nothing more than a bump in the road on what otherwise might have been a pleasant day. I wonder if you could point him at things to see if it makes the thing he's looking at funnier? Anyway, awesome as always! Thank you!

like the Simpsons overbite. Color is nice. maybe a flat clear paint over the whole thing to give it a nice texture. or not. might spoil it. if you baked the fins and horns separately, you could glue them on later and make sanding easier.

@@DRToysCreations You're very welcome. Ps You captured the feeling of the illustration perfectly. Most people lose something in translation between page and sculpt. If you wanted, the Chinese writing might be kept with the figure in the form of a little vertical flag, on a mini bamboo pole., you know the type.

Live the result!. I really recommend Nomad 3D. Once you get used to the tool I think it's a strong concentrated program that is JUST for sculpting. What was the spray yiu mentioned that gave you that flocked look? I just printed out a dog and I think that would add some fun to the painted version.

Kinda… when you have a lot left it dries and pops right out. But if you use most of the paint, which I like to do, its really thin and doesn’t really pop out but is all flaky and stuck. I’m guessing if I take it to the sink it will probably wash out, just haven’t done that yet.😄
