Emmy a home bakers trick . Reserve about a quarter cup of the flour use that for flouring your board and in the cookie cutter that way your getting exact amount of flour because the more extra flour you use the less uniform your dough will be. Just an old baker here lol

I worked at McDonald’s in the early 1990s. They still sold the cookies at that time - both butter/shortbread cookies and “chocolate chip.” They came in a box that was a little bigger than a juice box.

A few years back I had randomly craved these cookies. The odd thing was I had completely forgotten about them until the craving came out of nowhere, and then had spoken to a coworker because I wasn’t sure if I had confused them with some other brand. Since then (maybe 2018) I randomly crave what I remember them tasing like, a light lemony flavor.

I miss those cookies so much. Would gladly bring them back instead of their chocolate chip cookies. I recall them tasting of lemony vanilla, so that is a good benchmark.

@@peacefuldaizy5717 As someone who used to work at McDonald's, the original apple pie was deep-fried, that's probably why it was so good! Same oil they used for the french fries (but not the same fryer itself). Then they moved over to the "baked" apple pies which were supposed to be more "healthy" I guess. I haven't eaten at McDs in probably 20 years or more so I didn't know they didn't make them anymore! I'm out of the fast food loop LOL

@@DBradshaw25 : I don't eat at McDonald's. I just remember asking for an apple pie about 30 years ago in a drive thru and was horribly disappointed in what replaced it. I doubt it's any healthier.

@@peacefuldaizy5717 They still have the Apple Pie here in the UK! They are fried here and are a very famous item to get here at McDonalds for dessert. Ours are spiced with cinnamon and have diced apple pieces ^-^.

I have a very strong memory of going to see Fievel in the theater with my brothers and another family with kids close to the same ages and then going to a McDonalds with a giant indoor “play land”. I walked with crutches as a kid and I remember working really hard to climb up into the Hamburglars head and being really proud of myself as I crawled around and looked out from the barred window. Those cookies were iconic back in the day! I remember them tasting like shortbread with a raised edge all around the cookie. And the toys they had in the Happymeals back then were so much better than what kids get today, in my opinion.

I think the store-bought cookies are crunchier because commercial ovens can remove more of the moisture than home ovens can (to extend shelf life in stores). I remember seeing the cookies in TV commercials, though I never tried them. Yours turned out well!

I also think that using shortening instead of butter would help. The original cookies wouldn't have had butter in them, which has moisture from the milk solids.

Making sure your cookie dough is really cold when you go to cut it will really help with things like getting it to pop out of the cookie cutter unscathed.

I remember these cookies so well from when I was a kid and it's sad that they were discontinued, BUT the thing I _really_ wish they would bring back is the Cherry FRIED Pie. I loved those so much and the baked ones are nowhere near as flavourful.

As an 80s kid, i LOVED these cookies. I would trade my fries for them in my happy meal with my brother or friends. I have yet to find a cookie that tastes like them.

I had these once. They weren’t in a box, though. They were in a bag. We didn’t usually get pies or anything else, so I remember randomly wanting them for a few months until my parents finally caved. I guess having them only once in my life was enough.😂

They must have had these for a bit longer in Canada because I've definitely had them and they have a distinctive taste/smell lol. A lighter vanilla-flavoured shortbread taste kind of but... not a shortbread consistency lol. I hope that makes sense.

I wonder if that flavoring is supposed to replicate the taste of Prinsesstårta, or Princess Cake, which is a Swedish cake and is absolutely lovely, it's sponge cake layered with pastry cream and raspberry preserves, with a sheet of marzipan as "frosting". Would love to see you make one!

This is so great! When I was a kid I loved McDonaldland cookies. I believe the originals were baked by Keebler for McD's. For some reason, I loved to eat them while drinking Coca Cola--the synergy between the two was unlike anything else. Weird, I know. But I do need to try this recipe and maybe try the Aldi cookies!

Waldbaum’s here in NYC used to have an animal cracker store brand that tasted like them but when that chain was bought out, they disappeared. Then Annie’s Organic Animal Crackers also kinda tasted like them but they’ve been discontinued also. Can’t wait to go out to Aldi and try theirs.
