“i just mess around this for fun” - mixing automation clips - 6/8 time - sample editing - layering - actually on beat - semi-decent project organization - understands the basics of sound design (sawtooth waves, sine waves, etc) i call cap. you’ve done this numerous times before or you know an instrument and watched a couple youtube tutorials on mixing and sound design.

@@drouseyman definitely true, but he makes it seem like he's never done this before and is brand new to the concept of music production. A lot of the skills he had are more 'complex' and not easy for beginners to figure out. Sure a hobby musician could with ease, assuming the hobby musician has been making music for a while now.

This is actually incredible, the complex melodies and chord progressions demonstrate a deep understanding of music, regardless of whether or not you know the terminology. You always sell yourself short, but you're a way better composer than I am and I both know music theory and have been doing it for years.

if you're struggling to get song shit to sound right like u said before, genuinely I think the best thing to look into is the blues scale, because it helps a lot with letting you transcribe melody ideas and also just make melodies sound a ton better

@@draggems708 thats true, I mean a lot of them are self explanatory to the kind of music theyre from, say for instance minor hungarian and arabic will typically have a kind of mystical feel to them, and say japanese insen will typically follow the music from that culture, so on and so forth

I agree. If I had listened to it blind, I would have definitely thought it was inspired by Toby's music. That sense of uniqueness likely comes from Therm's lack of theoretical knowledge shining through while making this song. The lack of a structure and guidelines to go off of allowed him to make something entirely original and unexpected. It's really cool that it turned out really well, because it definitely could have gone horribly wrong lol

33:22 an arpeggio is basically considered as a chord that's split into each of it's notes. So instead of playing all of the chord's notes together, you play 'em one by one. And since there is no real rule what your chords has to be, almost any notes that are played one by one and follow some sort of scheme could be labeled as an arp lol xD so you're good haha

I'm pretty sure those "hotdog slaps" are castanets, which are relatively common in tracks associated with skeletons. Really cool instrument.

fun fact i learned very recently: you can actually set the fl studio piano roll to highlight a specific key/scale. it helps a lot when youre like me who knows jack shit about music theory also the wiggly pitch thing you did with the sawtooth instrument is called a vibrato btw you can also do those with slide notes it saves time

I started making music the same way about a year or two ago and it's actually insane how well you are at making chord progressions. I've always struggled with it so I seriously commend you for your creativity. Whenever I make a song or so, I struggle with just taking the chords or melodies from other sources. You da man 👍

30:51 the time signature is always "how much/of what" 1 means a whole note, 2 is a half note, 4 is a quarter note, etc. so 4/4 would be 4 quarter notes. so 6/8 would be 6 eighth notes.
