I Made My Fish Tank Into A Jungle Terrarium ( Terrarium Experiment )

Күн бұрынI filmed my process doing a fish tank terrarium/vivarium conversion. This was my very first attempt at one of these and i learned a lot. I will make another terrarium/vivarium soon using what i learned from this build and some more of serpadesigns techniques. I will also try and film updates about his terrarium/vivarium, hopefully it fills out nicely! Thanks for watching!

This is great! I really appreciate the candid feedback about the process, Serpa Designs doesn't really let you know how difficult or messy things can get.

Bit of advice, swap out the moss for tropical sheet moss you can get from dart frog suppliers. It grows much nicer and doesn't smother plants as much. Also, your substrate system might be a problem. If it starts to go a bit rancid if you have problems take out the substrate and leca and replace it with an egg-crate false bottom covered in weed fabric. On top of that put a substrate mix known as ABG mix. Add some tropical isopods and springtails and you shouldn't have any problems. Hope everything turns out great thought! :)

Wow, midway it looked bad but at the end it looked really good. Your mock vines worked out really well. It genuinly looks like the woods. In fact it looks to me like the PNW woods so if you are in that area I'm even more impressed. After Serpa Designs, this is probably the best terrarium I've seen. I find a lot of people just put plants in to a jar and call it art. I'd love to see well ventilated videos on making vines and also more updates and videos on terrariums. One note, you probs know this but coco coir sucks up ALL the water, you might need more to create a humidity necessary for the ferns.

I dont live in the PNW area but i fantasize about visiting the Hoh rainforest and would love a terrarium that looks like some of the pics ive seen! Thanks for watching!

I love seeing your take on this kind of project! I think it turned out quite nicely, and I hope you update once it's grown in a little. I'm working on my first ever paludarium build, myself! I used the expanding foam + coco coir for the background like you did, but I put it on a panel of egg crate that I'll suspend from the top of my tank, so I can easily remove for cleaning etc. I'm just finishing the waterfall component, which I'm so excited about!

this is good the only thing that i might change is the false bottom the co-co coir wicks the water up making it usless and promoting mold but other than that gretat job

Great video dude! Hope to see more of them in the future! As for plants, I’ve had success with calathum orbitefolia, syngoniums, semi aquatic plants, and air plants. Arrow leaf syngonium is particularly hardy. Ferns in my terrariums have always been hit or miss. Anyway good vid!

Tip - rinse the clay balls before using. The amount of ground up clay in those is massive.

For your first time it really looks excellent like you knew what you were doing wow.. I'm just barely getting into doing my first terranium but mine is way smaller than yours. I want to do a mini one.. So with that being said is the expanding foam the only thing that you can use to craft out the foundation on glass? I've been looking all day on what would be best to use and couldn't find anything until I seen your video. This looks really fun, I can't wait to get started lol

Im 2 yrs late seeing this, but we just did our 20 gal tank today! It won't look as great as yours because we arent doing live plants, but question- how did you do lighting/heating for this? I have a whites tree frog that doesnt need a lot, but she does need some. I heard that you shouldnt stick the lights right on top of the tank because it makes the glass too hot, so where would you put them? We kept the screen lid, so I'm trying to figure out of I can somehow get a clip light to shine in from the front...

All of the modern led aquarium lights don't get hot like the old bulb style lights. I did not heat the tank and the only heat it got would be from the lights

give it iron, and calcium and magnesium pretty early it will really help keep it strong

it depends. I learned about a huge issue with the alternative and the real one. I want to make a second one the right way and show that in the same video. Do you want just a short update on the one i have or would you rather see a video with the update and a better method moving forwards?

Hello, Teckplant! I want to make Russian subtitles for you! I just need some practice and works in my portfolio, so my work will be free. I know that some of my Russian friends wants to learn English and watch your videos in original, but they can't do it without subtitles. Mostly, I want to work for people like this. Recently KZfaq removed the opportunity to make subtitles for everyone, so now authors must upload subtitles themselves. As soon as you upload new video I will start doing subtitles, and after short period of time I'll send file with subtitles to you. All you need is just upload it.
