More boost & more fuel makes my diesel go fast! In this video, we install a Race IQ Stage 1 ECU Tune and some Mickey Thompson drag radials on my 268,000 mile, 2005 Mercedes-Benz E320 CDI. We also test 0-60 MPH on the stock tune and the Stage 1 tune and the improvement is awesome. This turbo diesel Mercedes continues to impress even though it did break after 0-60 testing. She will be back and ready for even more mods!

Jumper pack construction is very iffy, low quality. Out of the box main cable plug did not stay plugged in, LED was DOA. There are better packs in the same price - power category.

@LegitStreetCars - Hi Alex, still a big fan of your work/ videos similar issue, I have a 2006 Mercedes CLK 320 CDi W209 which came with a standard Garrette turbo - I was getting the error code on STAR as 'P0244 - Wastegate sonoloid on position A' as it was on limp mode and it felt like it was dragging an anchor on the road with less performance, could go past 30 Mph I initially thought it was the Actuator, I took it out and tested - it turns out this was 100% great in working order, so ruled out the actuator. It turns out the arm/ rod connected to the actuator (which closes the wastegate on the turbo) is seized, it's hard to move, I discovered this after disconnecting the actuator. I've had to leave the actuator disconnected and leave the wastegate shut to give it more boost, it's been left closed and performance has been restored. -What's your take on it? would leaving this shut create issues? - Should I leave it closed? - would you do a video on resolving a stuck/ seized wastegate on a Garrette Turbo, please? thank you in advance :)

There are a lot of channels here that are either building, or have built affordable cars. Especially if you look at smaller channels. I guess it depends on what you may consider affordable tho. Otherwise, there are plenty of folks building Mustangs, Miatas, and Hondas. I've actually been watching a guy that's building an old Civic he got from a junk yard. He's doing a really budget build tho. EBay turbo and all

12’s is a tall ask... unless you plan to go huge on the turbo (kinda ruining the drivability) or give it some LPG for extra thrust.
@monsterram6617
@monsterram6617 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, if by easy bolt-ons you mean all emissions deleted, a bigger turbo (possibly compounds), bigger injectors, bigger low & high pressure fuel pumps, a transmissions that will hold the power, and then run a race tune for the 1/4 and a super lean eco tune for the MPGs.

Monster RAM That car is about 3k ligher than your truck so 12s won’t need as much work
@Mortalomena
@Mortalomena 5 жыл бұрын
@@monsterram6617 these transmissions are good for 600 hp / 1000 nm. No need for compounds, just a bigger turbo. Dont know about the pumps and such.
@Gr0t0tter
@Gr0t0tter 5 жыл бұрын
sam grabel - the 320 CDI also has a smaller engine with appropriately sized fueling components for probably in the region of a maximum of 300-320 hp, so Monster RAM is entirely correct in his assertion... Alex will need a significantly bigger turbo and all the supporting modifications (bar maybe a transmission upgrade) to make the 450 or so horsepower needed to propel this car into the high 12’s.

The e classe is a bigger car more like a family car, I choose the c classe because I just needed for personal draving, and it's more economical than the e classe with the same engine because it's lighter, I'm from Portugal so I don't know haw to convert in mpg but I usually get like 5.0 liters in 100 km, and I also tuned the car at 500.000km so from factory 150hp it get to 185hp and it went pretty reliable anyway

Being in NZ my engine is the M613 engine completely standard. I think the EGR needs a good clean out so look forward to when you tackle that job. I have changed the SLS spheres recently and upper control arms. Feels tight still. Other job completed was the high pressure diesel pump after it decided to leak all over accessories drive belt. Alex, this is, undoubtedly, the best series you've undertaken. That CDI is bullet-proof, but don't push her too far. I would not want you to blow the engine. If it were my car, I'd keep it close to stock, but maybe do an eco tune of some sort. Those are quite solid engines and while it's an opinion to say it's the best diesel MB has ever made, it's damn good. I'd be interested in getting one myself, but I'd have to give up our 2013 C300 4Matic, which is very nice and handles incredibly well, even in the wet and snow (although, some of that is obviously due to the Conti DWS06 tires on it, which I also had on our W210 E300TD sedan, and also have on our 1998 SLK230 kompressor w/45k miles). Can't wait to see the next installment.

Cleaning the intake manifold: I have indications that the intake manifolds and EGR can be properly cleaned with waterspray without any dismantling other than the air hose disconnect after the intercooler . Alternatively a water and soap / or other chemicals can be used. However I am not sure if we want the shit go thru the motor, turbo, and into the cat. There are thought possible that the loosened carbon/oil mix will burn to co2 in the motor. So it should be safe for the turbo and cat. Deer you try this cleaning method on the CDI ? best regards CDI owner "Paul" in norway.

Hey question. I just got this 2005 cdi great shape at 108,000 miles and I get little white smoke out of the tail pipe at start up. It sat for 2 days and it's a PA 15 degrees here. I know 85 300sd smoked till I changed glow plugs. Anything to really worry about. Had it 3 weeks and runs super great no issues.

Hey Alex! How did you decide on this particular tune? Easiest? Most power? They sent it to you? Thanks!

I noticed the hanging headliner back near c pillar. I have the same thing on my 05 C55. Spray glue doesn’t work, any chance you will do a headliner replacement vid?

I wonder what your position is on pumping the oil out the dipstick tube to avoid removing the under covers?

Wow! Very exciting project. I’ve been in love with Mercedes diesels since my boss threw my the keys to his blue 300sd and told to me where to bring it to get detailed. I was 18. Let’s see....achieving 4.5 sec 0-60 W slicks might have made 1/4 mile run in the low 13’s. 13.20 best guess. What did it run and how is it doing?

Please put new ATF anf filter in the gearbox. You should check the water radiator for any calcar like deposits. Other than that, the car os looking great!!

What app are you using for the 0-60 test? I just did a dinan tune for a 340 and a Malone stage 2 for my jetta tdi with the dsg tune as well and would love to test the 0-60.

I love this project. I didn’t think a simple crack hose would be what “broke “ your Benz lol. I’m seriously considering getting this same model and car because of your videos. Would you recommend the 05 or the 06 more?

Owner of 3 of these beauties!! Fun and fast! quick note, when you change the fuel filter, fill it up/prime it with seafoam or a BG fuel system cleaner and let it idle and clean out those 200k injectors------EXTREMELY VITAL-------even better, show us how to do a liqui moly diesel purge on a common rail direct injection-----Alexson, you da man

Could just get a kess tuning box to extract the map and edit the ecu map with ecm titanium. Works a charm on edc16 based ecus.

I am a commercial driver and do diesel every day. Change your fuel filter and water separator ( if equipped ) and dope your diesel fuel with a good treatment as long as the temps are super cold ( I live in the Midwest like you ). Something like Howes Lubricator will go a long way towards keeping the fuel system clean and your starts easy

Love these vids and I don't even own a benz. Alex you should have a second channel dedicated to servicing your cars. E55s are super attractive now given their price but I'm sure repair costs for non diyers scare some people away. The 2nd channel could be just simple straight to the point step by step instructions. Doesn't even have to be limited to your e55...do it for all your cars. I'm sure the community could benefit from visual how to's from an actual mb tech.
