That's true, but it also looks like they are just a bit above street level. This lets them have some light and privacy at the same time. Besides, at 200 sq ft it's not a home you hang around in. Literally just a place to stow your stuff and sleep.

Eliminate the headboard, and most of the decorative pillows will give the room more light. In such a small space, the decor pillows will wing up on the floor. 👎

Plus they now have no bedside tables, which they were using; a really awkward way to climb out of bed, where before they had room to get up without crawling over each other; a tv that doesn't really face the bed, which is where they watch it; and a cluttered look right up to the ceiling.

The room was a bit nicer than before but here are some points to remember when designing a room that small (which is a combined living & bedroom) - Use one wall as an accent wall (w/ the green paint) and paint the rest neutral/ white to make the room feel bigger - Please please REFRAIN from putting shelves above the bed especially if you're gonna put heavy objects on it because it might fall - One way to make the room seem taller is mounting the curtain rod near the ceiling and not just an inch or two above the window - Take into consideration the amount of natural light that gets into the room especially with the headboard that big which actually blocks almost half the window That's all thank you have a great day!! :)

You've done an awesome makeover...here is few things I would have done differently: 1.) Full-length sheers instead of the headboard and the upper shelf. 2.) Really liked the look of this makeover but was a *little* surprised that more storage solutions weren't implemented. Especially since its such a small space and imagine its hard to keep organized. Maybe adding more hiding places for when it gets messy. And maybe adding a table/nightstand for one end of the bed like the Nifty sofa table but shorter. Otherwise super cute!

For sure my favourite Buzzfeed show. My favourite was the kitchen makeover, but I can definitely see myself using aspects from several different makeovers in my own home! Loved the tip about tracing frames and using masking tape and paper to figure out positioning! Keep up the great work, Ashley. Looking forward to the next season!

@@margheritap.1187 Really? They are bred for that purpose and wouldn't even exist if not for being a pet. They get food without having to forage for it and those little fish live life without becoming a bigger fish's meal. As long as your tank is large enough to accomodate the size and amount of fish you own, they have a pretty cushy life.

This was an impressive transformation of a small space, but one aspect simply is impractical and that's the bed situation. Yes, they can flip the pillows, but there are spaces on either side of the bed. They'll just fall off the bed into the gaps. Also, one person will have to sleep "pinned in" on one side by the headboard and the other person. They can crawl straight down to the bottom, but that's an awkward and tricky thing to do without disturbing your bedmate. It looks great, but I bet they flipped the bed back to its original orientation after a few nights.

It's amazing that they live in a tiny apartment. I don't know if they are on a tight budget, or if they are saving money for something, or if they are just frugal - it's very smart. So many people waste money and live beyond their means, especially in NYC. Good job!

If we're talking about NYC, the rent for even a space this small is probably no chump change.

But they're *not* living in a *tiny* apartment! The way Ashley talked about the "tiny space" of 200 sq feet for two people was as if this was the whole flat... But it was just the bedroom - and that's really not even a small bedroom! You can see in some parts of the video, there's at least a hall, a dining /kitchen space and separate bathroom, making the whole apartment a normal size (especially for New York), NOT a "tiny" apartment...

Looks good. The only negative I see is how the curtains were taken away and then replaced by a sheer fabric on a tension rod. Apparently they're on the ground floor because I could see the street from the window, so they definitely need something that'd not only give them privacy, but also block out the sun.

I think you guys don't understand. This IS the whole apartment. It is 200 sq. ft. Just to give you a sense of 200 sq. ft., a parking spot is normally 180 sq. ft. They live in parking spot. Welcome to New York.

this is NYC. Apartments are the size of walk in closets. It's 200 square feet - there's probably a corner for a "kitchen" and a nook for the bathroom.

I live in a tiny place--208 square feet, and that's counting into the farthest corners of the miniscule bathroom--and have no kitchen, so have to use small appliances for all cooking (I've gotten rather good at getting a meal together considering there is also only one circuit per apartment, so I can't use even two appliances at the same time. This is a very old tiny motel turned into low income housing). I'd love to see what Ashley could do here if the rules would permit anyone doing any kind of physical changes. I love your work, Ashley, and wish I could think of the kinds of solutions you do for making small spaces completely awesome and livable!

I think makeovers like these really make me appreciate small spaces more since I am used to a room on my own that is a bit more then 200sqm (and I like living in wider spaces) When you live in a big city and your apartment is small, then small changes and use of vertical space can really open up a space. I need a space at least big enough to fit my bed and a yoga man on the floor.

In small spaces have to use vertical space. Armoires can be storage and centers like coffee or even smaller TV inside top. Small buffet hutch can replace the note center in the open part. Think compact. Mine had all kitchen items in it. Books over window I agree not safe but the brackets showing? I think turning bed a great idea but I would have put headboard there on the side wall. Maybe even get those kind of 50s headboards with fold down hidden storage. Run books along top of that or elsewhere. Leave a bit of space on back of bed to make it and put very skinny side table. Like those skinny bathroom drawer storage things but in wood color. But do like ideas overall.
