Great Stuff!! Aside from the sealing of leaks, the reason you pipe worked when it was shorter was related to 2 things. First is the inertia of the water moving down the first leg, it's kind of a balancing act to get enough downward force to push back up the pipe towards the drain. and second, is the angles. Your pipes with the clear tubes made essentially right angles which reduces speed and requires more force directly against gravity to come back up. This is why the smaller straw ones work as they are more a V than a U.

Pex pipe would’ve been the best choice and you can actually bend it when you heat it up and it doesn’t burn. I did one out of pex to drain a swimming pool and I simply put it completely under water then pulled it out of the water very fast without taking the whole thing out and it began to drain and continued to drain

Nice work man, I like your enthusiasm. Reminds me of the first time I got fire from rubbing sticks together - pretty f'ing exciting. No cameras though, and no KZfaq to post any video on anyway. Then again, it's really not that hard, just technique. You might have fun trying it. I experimented with a lot of different fire making techniques and let me save you and your eyebrows the trouble of taking a bullet apart and using a magnifying glass on the gunpowder inside. A small pile of powder flares up nicely - I don't remember, but a foot or two high at least. That a fire does not make, so I put the powder in the "bird's nest", the ball of papery bark tinder with a dent pushed into it to hold a spark from whatever process you're using. You'll use a bird's nest rubbing sticks, because you just make a "coal", not an outright flame at first. You carefully put the coal in the bird's nest and blow and blow until that thing is smoking like a steam engine, and you're wheezing like a steam engine without enough steam, and eventually the air, heat and fuel decide to do what they're supposed to do and ignite into flame. Hope you have the beginnings of your intended campfire ready, because you've got a ball of fire in your hand and the last thing you want to do is drop it and have to start all over. Anyway, I digress, back to the gunpowder. Once I saw how easily the powder burned with the magnifying glass, I took apart another bullet and poured the powder in a perfectly prepared bird's nest. Well it lit just as fast, but it flared up more than "a bit" more than before. I hadn't considered gunpowder does its best work under pressure - literally. Some of the powder had fallen into the tinder fibers, plus I'd kind of squeezed the nest in a little tighter, closer to closed, and it acted similar to how it does in the rifle. It wasn't nearly the pressure it would have had from being capped by the bullet and the riflings of the barrel, but it WAS plenty enough pressure to blow that bird nest into a thousand flaming bits of tinder, all in the proximity of my all-too-closely studying face. Of course, eyebrows do come back, but not nearly fast enough when you're really wishing for some new ones. After dozens of experiments with wax, steel wool, sticks, batteries, glass and etc... I figured out your best bet in the wilds is a Bic lighter - ALWAYS have one, or better yet a few. Cotton balls soaked in petroleum jelly makes perfect tinder, even if it got wet. But back to your siphon, good job again. It sounds like it's most definitely the biggest one you've ever made, but you might not say a whole lot around anybody who understands how hydroelectric dams work. Engineers are the worst, they're real know-it-alls. As in, they really do know it all about dams and siphons. Otherwise, keep on experimenting, you might come up with something brand new. Like a way to grow back eyebrows overnight.

Back in high school (94) We were tasked to make a siphon that self starts and I had seen this one in a PBS documentary. All I did was buy 20ft of clear thin wall 1 1/2" tubing and 12ft stick of 2" PVC. PVC cut to 2', 2.5', 3', and 4', ran the tubing through each PVC in that order and I was done. Took 45 min tops. Soup to nuts.

Problem with your mark one was the diameter and volume of air inside of the pipe. The problem with your mark two was shape. Your mark two could be done much easier, (or upgraded) by ading a bendable wire/rod to the hose. Obviously, if you only attach hose to the bended rod, there will be no cuts on the hose, and the hose will hold its shape even when already falling into the watter, just thrown by your hand. And finaly - the best sollution would be having a hose with one-way valve on its end, and fill the hose by jerking it up and down in the jug.
