Ah, the joys of DI engines. For anyone that owns a DI engine I strongly suggest upgrading the PCV system with a good quality oil separator plumbed into the PCV. If you can remove 99% of the oil mist from the blowby gasses then gummed up valves and inlet tracts will no longer be an issue 😉

What about the valve cover breather valve? I just bought a oil catch can for this very car, but noticed there is a valve cover breather that goes into the intake

@@georgekallely7103 Anything that gets sucked into the intake from the engine needs to have the oil mist removed or else it just gums up the valves.

When I switched from buying Mercedes to Lexus, the Benz dealer told me they were just glorified Toyotas. That's been 22 years ago, I never bought another Mercedes after owning 3. My glorified Toyotas have been excellent. So glad you're fixing this Lexus and donating it. What a great car for someone in need!

Rock auto is solid I get 90% of my parts there. Wheel hubs, o2 sensors, pulleys etc.

It's good but most aren't OE quality parts. Just have to understand that.

Denso Iridium plugs are OE for Toyota, though they sometimes come with NGK also. The original plugs will have a paint mark on the top of the electrode where the coil sits. They actually use paint marks on most original parts like struts, springs, and mounts.

Awesome work! For the spark plugs look at the tip of the plug where the coil side. Factory plugs will have either a letter or some kind of mark replacements won’t. Very curious if these are factory and they could be since it’s 120k plugs

Pretty sure Denso is the oem plug on most lexus vehicles so they likely were, although they’re recommended at 60k by lexus

for intake valve cleaning, put a bunch of plastic zip ties on a power drill and go to town on the intake by scrubbing them mechanically. Then vacuum out!

Lexus Master Tech of 15 years here. This was entertaining to watch cuz we pretty much do the same thing. We used the cleaner through the intake before, but we found out it didn't work to well. So we switched to walnut blasting. Great job cleaning with picks. 👍🏼👍🏼👏👏

@@LegitStreetCars i cant wait for the give away but iam too far from you i think ,, i am in reading pa, anyhow i have an 2006 ml350 with more gremlins that i can count started with an electrical fire with destroy the rear modules and chassi harness took me well over 2 years to fix the damage to were i could drive the vehicle again but still ticking and i just cant let it go nothing works inside the head panel is dead check engine light and others but still drive so nice , i think you know what i mean lol ahh mercedes lol you have a great day

This has been one of the best car care/repair videos I've seen on any channel. Thanks for making it possible for us to keep up with you. I recently replace struts/sway bar end links and shocks on my 2011 Chevy Traverse. I can't get the popping noise out of the front, so it's sway bar bushings now. Your video has given me motivation to keep trying.

44:45 These trans are safe to just do a drain and fill with the Toyota WS trans fluid. Drain/fill 2-3 times. I did one on an IS350 with 170k on it. It now has 220K and still shifts like a dream!

@@ytsux9259 theres a lot of controversy with changing the fluids in these transmissions. A lot of people say it has to be done a certain way & not anyone can just do it. I want to change mine but don’t wanna risk doing it myself, probably just gonna take it to the dealership at some point.

@@swervoOG It's as simple as draining/filling it. Very easy to do. Just only use Toyota automatic transmission fluid and you'll be fine. Drain, fill, drive around for 20 min then do that 2 more times and it'll be fine.

Running a catch can system will usually help with carbon build up like that.

Was going to say the same thing. I cleaned the intake manifold and valves on my f150 ecobost and installed a catch can. They still look nice and clean after 45k miles.

@@richardbaumgart2454 Depends on what year ecoboost you have. Ford added port injection in addition to the DI to help with the intake valves getting carbon on them later on. An oil separator aka catch can, is still a great system to add to any engine to rid the oil out of the engines intake track. Especially for DI vehicles.

@@richardbaumgart2454 I run a catch can on my 1.6 Ecoboost it is definitely a great addition. Every oil change I dump it out and am glad that isn't being blasted on my valves. If I were to use a laundry measurement cup its 2-3 loads of residue lol

Those are likely the factory plugs, there will be a mark on top of the connectors if so. Same plugs they still use in the 2gr-fks.
