For Those Athearn dash 9 hoods, you are just supposed to squeeze the middle of hood and ot will come off very easy. No need to pry on those tabs from underneath. You can damage them by doing that

Press and hold the spray, start before one end and follow through past the other end in one single smooth motion. If the paint ends up a bit wrinkled looking or uneven then wet sand it out then apply your clear and polish it.

Great job by the way....u should of used airplane hobby pinstripe tape...really thin stuff and would of been flawless in those cracks so no paint would of ran out beyond the tape. I've dont n scales with that ....works great!!! Or!!!!...once it cures a little ...gently take a wooden toothpick in the seems and scrape gently then once cleaned up use matte clear krylon in the same can. It will be mint!!! I shouldnt give out my painting tips...cause it works!! Wooden toothpicks only!!!!! Those cans were in the store before they were made to apply the warnings on them ....old to new stock.... I LOVE DOING CUSTOM PAINT SCHEMES....AND WATCHING OTHERS AS WELL....lol I hope this helps now and in the future... great video!!! U floor at ur age and ur favourites are my childhood trains..TYCO!!!! That's all in a great way!!!....no negative here...lol take care!!!!

Cool project! Just a few tips. We used to use Easy Off foamy oven cleaner. You have to use the foam version, because the original Easy Off will damage the plastic. Also, when spray painting, you should spray in a continuous motion, length-wise, from just before the shell and stop just past the shell. You'll have less of a chance of runs and sags.

When I saw the thumbnail I thought you repainted the Kato one. Scared me!

About the white paint smears? IF you can find a Sharpie in the same shade of blue as the Rustoleum, then you can actually draw the blue over those smudges. And...IT WORKS REALLY WELL!!!

Hi Harrison, I remember those videos not the MSTS TV one but the ones with the Gerry Reed Songs added to them, both West Bound and East bound , the latter actually had Coors Rail Cars in the consist. Small side note I noticed in the videos that engine on the right side (camera view left) a police badge painted on , wouldn't it be cool if you could find someone to make you a decal to add to the engine. BTW they're still posted here on You Tube.

What you COULD do is add a blinking red LED into the roof of the cab. I have a couple in one of my blue-box locos. It's easy to wire up, and drilling a small hole in the roof of the cab for the LED is no big deal. I just think it would make a police interceptor loco look a bit more cool...

SMT for striping paint why not use a tooth brush after you add on the paint stripper. I’ve seen people do that on videos and it seemed to work really well.

Hey Buddy place your paint cans in a bucket of hot water, this will allow the paint to flow more smoothly.

I did not see you clear the nozzle by turning the can upside down and spraying any paint out. This allows you to reuse the can later. Nice video by the way and the paint came out great.Hal

You should do a video in pulling power between different brands. We did this one night on my layout using a tyco against the older tyco with the mantua motor to pull 10 cars.

Nice repainting, you did a good job, however I don't understand why you don't apply the paint using constant pressure on the spay can and with a smooth motion back and forth in order to get an evenly amount of paint all over the surface on the model.

always use lighter coats ad layer of there is small detail. thicker coats out of a rattlecan will clog and not cure properly. especially if no under coat.
