Handling owners are no joke! I’ve had to fire an owner because of their difficult behaviour not because of the dogs behaviour!!

Absolutely! If they don’t feel like they trust the dog walker to walk your dog then you walk them and they probably take advantages of them.

I am a dog walker in my city too,but not in a big city like New York. I actually don't agree with that statement. The dog owners that I have are just hard at all. I never have to text the owner to let them know I have walked their dog. They just know I show up. I always let them know though if I am coming early in the morning if it will be hot. If I am going to be on vacation then I'll let them know. Otherwise....nah not hard. No dogs of mine even wear trackers. Some of the people have security cameras outside of their house but that's for other purposes.

@@mwolfe2022 Actually- I had 2 incidents. One I began to walk a dog. The dog owner and I agreed to walk & price. Weeks went by and I messaged him the amount due. Then he claimed he didn't know I was still walking his dog. Which was weird because there was a ring camera doorbell in front of the house. Clearly he saw me going in and out. Anyways, I almost went to court to get my money. Luckily he paid me before I took action. Even after he still thought I didn't want his dog. Another incident, I had a person who didn't pay me the full amount for walking his dog. He was struggling with money and a place to live...etc. So I cut him a break. The first case was far worse.

Bottom line .. dogs make u wealthy 💰 and healthy 💪🏾

Ya. i am a dog walker too in my city. Not New York though....smaller city. I work between 6-8 hours a day and 7 days a week.

He help us with our dog. We rescued a dog with lots of issues and Ryan totally helped out with his walking behavior. He’s a nice guy if you’re a decent human being. However there’s been issues with other dog owners in the neighborhood and Ryan as Ryan is a person that will be very direct and honest and people don’t like that. There’s been drama 🎭 but as I said is mostly with difficult people. Ryan is very into his job and yeah he’s better with dogs that humans.

Or... maybe its be able to live a stress free life on 100k/yr salary... on ur on schedule and get ur own client to just simply walk around ur neighborhood holding some ropes...

It’s a great paying job! I’m a dog walker/trainer and it’s amazing! You’re right at times it isn’t always easy (training dogs to walk properly, behavior training) but it’s very rewarding!

I actually walk more steps then this guy and work more days then he does. I walk anywhere between 23,000 steps to 33,000 steps a day AND work 7 days a week. I could have the weekends off,but just choose to work it. It's typically only 3 dogs each on Saturday and Sunday which is not bad at all. I've been doing dog walking since right after high school. I went to college like this guy did,but didn't get a degree. Nothing really clicked. I tried learning computer courses and then cooking/baking classes and then physical education classes. Ultimately went into dog walking. One person asked me to walk their dog after mine had passed. She said she would pay me so I did. Then another person heard about it. So they asked me to walk their dog. Pretty much after that it took off. People just saw me walking different dogs and then asked me to walk their dogs. Some dogs I walk same dog every week and other dogs I walk if owner needs it & if I have time. I have to say though, the owners are not as pushy as this guy says. At least mine aren't. I don't even text to let the owners know I am there. They just know because they trust me. Some have cameras in front of their houses for security reasons. No dog has a tracker on them though. If something is wrong with the dog, then I'll text the owner or if payment is due. Otherwise that's about it. Oh and if it's going to be a hot day, then I'll let the owner know I will be early in walking their dog(s). I am mostly friends with all the owners. Everyone knows me trusts me. As far as also leashes go- I like gentle leaders for the dogs that pull or just leash on collar. Some dogs go off leash depending on if they can be. I do actually listen to music on speaker on occasion if it's just not many dogs. I feel blessed to be walking dogs. I got other job offers before for higher pay,but I just declined them. I thought in back of my mine "Who's going to walk puddy?"

@@boohere2 That’s so awesome! I did do walking/caring/training for a dog every summer in middle and high school, and would also house sit and care for a neighbor’s cats whenever they were away. I absolutely loved every second of it, and couldn’t believe I was actually getting paid to do something I enjoyed so much. If a chronic illness hadn’t disabled me, I totally would’ve continued, even if it was just on the side. I think the entitled owners aspect is heavily influenced by him living in New York. There are quite a few New Yorkers (not all) who have entitled attitudes, especially when it comes to those providing a service to them, and especially in nicer areas (which are typically the people who can afford daily dog walking in New York). Just look up Uber/Lift video’s uploaded by drivers in New York to see countless examples.

@@BhappyD Aw you should try to go back to it. At least for the cat sitting. Cats are usually so easy to care for. They don't even need walks and are less maintenance then a dog. I can see people being entitled for sure.

I would like him to make youtube videos with tips about how to correctly walk dogs, care for them, choose a dog walker, dog training, etc. As he said, he doesn't have paid vacations, work health insurance, etc. He needs another source of income apart from him doing the work with his body and his time. Well the good thing about your clients is you can choose them when you have enough clout. They know when you love their dog so it makes things much easier. I use an app where the client sees where we went, that they pooped and pee'd and notes. It's in your best interest to give your clients peace of mind as you're caring for a family member. For me it's easy to talk with my clients because we both love their dog.

This is why prong collars come in handy for untrained non heeling dogs that pull. If owners dog is not trained and they refuse a prong collar because it's "Cruel"(Sarcasm) then they don't deserve dog walking services.

I love dogs and dog sit/ take care of them but I usually let the owners give me their price, i don’t want to price these people out cuz I don’t really know what I should be charging/ I want to be of neighborly help. 2 big dogs I walk I get $40, a chihuahua and cat I watched for a month (low mainitneace) I got 700, dog sit for 4/5 hours for $50. I’m just 19 right now and I have a 27 hour work week on top of full time online student but I really do want to get more into the dog walking world.

@@ToothlesstheNightFury510 You are charging too little. Id recommend going to a dog park and chatting with some walkers there. Ask about where they are located, the kinds of owners they deal with, the dogs, and price yourself accordingly. You have to know your worth.

@@thegazetteyt Agreed. I live in SF and I charge 25$ per half hr and 15$ extra for an additional dog from a household. I do 30 for an hour and 20 for additional dog(s). 65-75$ for a house sit is pretty standard. Boarding a dog with a doggy daycare is maybe a bit less but they're also in many cases very stressful for the pups and they do better at home--not always as some dogs love the chaos!

@@boohere2 some of the dogs I walk wear trackers, mainly so their owners can track their miles/day. It's never an issue though bc our walks are at least an hour, mainly off leash with lots of play. Most difficult part of dealing with the owners is when you're in a hurry, bc my clients are lovely and love to chat 😂

As another dog walker, I have to agree with that too. A HUGE portion of my time is spent texting owners for various reasons (not while working, always after.) And it is so stressful now that people are home a lot. They don't understand you need a window of time - it's almost impossible to be there right on the dot when you do this kind of work. Also - I love dogs but I don't want to work with people, and now that everyone is home, I ALWAYS have to interact with people! It was so much better before. But most of my clients are really nice and I have actually become really good friends with some of them. I almost always keep in contact with them, at least for awhile, when they move away.

Hiring people gets problematic. He’d have to find someone who’s reliable, responsible, loves dogs and only looking for part time work. That’s a hard sale nowadays As a single entrepreneur he’s gotta have enough for his own bills and to pay the worker decently and train them up. Then hope they don’t bail on him or screw his business over with a dog accident. Also would need insurance for the dog walkers.. Not impossible but def not an easy feat but would absolutely make his life easier if he could make it take off.

Oh man I hate the retractable leashes. I can almost guarantee the dog is gonna have horrible manners and little to no training. Have also seen many dogs take off at full speed, owner puts the stop mechanism on those junky leashes and the dog rips it out of their hand and is loose. I wish those would fall out of style 😭

I didn’t know that! I think boots are a great idea in the winter though. So many of our sidewalks have salt on them to melt the snow. That can be painful or damaging to the dogs. And in the summer the sidewalks can get super hot. I’m sure Ryan knows all of this and has a way to make it more comfortable for the pups.

When I lived in NYC in the '80's and '90's I certainly felt it through my shoes.

I think the leashes were less visible because of the sun and light but there’s no way he could keep them from straying if they didn’t have the leashes. Way too much liability as well if they didn’t.

I’m also wondering the same thing.. I don’t think there are invisible leashes, as the other reply said…
