That wing nut could have been replaced with a cool Bronze or brass thumb knob with a knurled surface to tighten it up with, which would have made the hand held vice a bit more user friendly, as the wings could get in the way while working on small parts, that are held in the vice. But what was made for the restoration was Insanely amazing. It was actually better when finished then the original was when new. Cheers.

Love your work and description. Your English is fine by the way. I work with many English second language speaking folks and they say the same things, the same way as you do. They have been here for over 20 or 30 years it is just the way your brain works. My fave is my phillipino buddy who always says " I'm mad to you / instead of I'm mad at you.

Ahhhhhh, yes, the good old Rebar Cutter....It was a great project and a beautiful piece. I think about the only thing that didn't get "I make new one" was the rebar itself. I am still amazed how well the wing nut turned out on the watchmaker vise. It took you so long to get a proper parting tool for the lathe....I am surprised you never made one!

You are the best. You know what would be awesome to see restored by your hands? A Machine Tool! That would be quite the undertaking, even for you (multiple episodes). When it is done, though, OMGoodness. It would be much, Much better than new. A small bench top lathe perhaps? Chinese made Harbor Freight Lathe? You could fix everything that is wrong. That would be cool.

Thank you so much for this compilation. It is a master class in manual machining. Could a lot of this be done with a CNC? Probably (although working out the programming would be, umm, "interesting"). Would it be as much fun? Absolutely not! We may not be able to see your face, but it is so obvious that you are enjoying yourself immensely with every challenge. I strongly suspect that when you don't have to "make a new one", it's a bit disappointing for you. It certainly is for us! These short excerpts from your videos are proof positive that all of the machines in the world are worth nothing without the skill and imagination to use them properly. If I had my way, this video would be shown to every young person who had any interest in doing this kind of work. It is truly an inspiration! I look forward to your next video. It may not include "I make a new one", but if it does, I'm sure you'll be able to hear the cheering!

For wood: shellac dries very quickly and is easy to sand (unlike varnish, which is much harder). How about using shellac to give some shine to the wood? When I walk into a hardware store, any wood parts are shiny. That does not decrease grip or make them harder to use. I'm just proposing this again (shiny wood instead of dull, lifeless wood) because I saw the icky black-grey of the wood parts of the plane. I suggest adding nice-looking wood to the central core of you, which seems to be a drive for *perfection* instead of "good enough" or mediocrity. This love of the fine details is what sets you so far ahead of all the other rebuilding channels.I can sit and watch you work for *hours*, entranced the entire time.

The only billet steel ox tongue in the known universe! But.... if you bandsawed the core in half instead of machining away half, you could have had two, one in the iron and one on the fire heating up. Much more efficient for the laundress.
