I'm pretty limited on space, so I have no choice but to limit my seed buying. That said, I still often have different veggies that I want to try and don't always have space for, so I am working on more vertical growing methods, as well as potted veggies. I hate wasting seeds, which happens more than I'd like. You certainly aren't the first gardener I've heard say they plant more tomatoes than is reasonable, seems like an addiction for many people. 😂

If you got a chance, a video abut worms would be could. In Connecticut they used to be in the puddles after rain. Years after putting all this stuff into te soil I saw like one. They used to always be in bottom of a pond near me; all the fish dead now. The soil there also doesn't have worms it it. One only needed to fold the soil back to find worms in the day, all times. They are no longer there for birds in the rain. They are no longer there! The soil isn't being fed. And it's important, too, because nature communicates not just for, but as nature's system not just about, but as hyper-positive, as identities simultaneously relativize to positive and to negative and to/as the quality/Quality of diffusion the Republic, and that English was actually revealed to teach. See semi-ancient breach. So one must teach. See Native dreams. I believe it is the Navajo that say we must read each other's dreams. See president/chief. We're in a semi-ancient trap/s, and with the plural part to screen the method/d, one. There is one way that gains more ways. Boxing is fun. Boxing, martial arts, and wrestling is about fighting, but the rules, but they abridged. And the birds eat a lot fo bugs, note. Nature communicates with positive and negative value nature progressions, but ow additionally from te finite, active grouped, and simultaneous reasons. The species body longs, but ground tactically denatured below each person, too. Good luck with KZfaq and with the things. Box sings.... Boxing, martial arts, and wrestling share grouped the identity the sciences share to sow us the per-relativity, the hyper-simultaneous. And the last thing I wanted you to consider is the phrase vertical gardening. Note how it increases surface area. There are proofs that there were more perennial fruits, berries, and vegetables, but that taken away also with the ground denatured for the extortion of our founders like George Washington we have not addressed honestly yet, even, let alone Madison's. And see president/chief. See Native Americans and their difference also used by the same breaching method/s. black pupils. If you put a tree on the south side even if in a pot you'll have leaves.

Seeds are sold at Dollar Tree (I'm not sure if Dollar Tree is all over the U.S.?) and there are many KZfaqrs showing how successful the Dollar Tree seeds are. I tried some in '23 against much more expensive seeds, and the DT seeds were the healthiest, happiest plants of my entire garden. Everyone loves DT seeds. They are .25 per packet, not $1 or $1.25. I'd love to see you do a video testing those seeds; I already know you would have fantastic success with them!

Plus Walmart sells the same exact ones for 50 cents a package. Ace Hardware sells them for $ 0.75 or $0.99 a package for the same exact ones. I believe Dollar General sells them too. But since I don't live near one I don't remember how much they were.

I use ferry Morse seed savers and johnny select and burpee. I go back and forth with these companies and I also visit our local stores also. I always find something! Lol😅. When planning my garden for this year, I said that I was going to keep it to a dozen tomatoes and my 12 yo niece immediately quipped, "So we're going to have 20 tomato plants? 30?" She knows me too well. I'm planning to grow all determinate tomatoes this year because of your advice. I like to have a good plant experiment every year, so I'm excited to see what happens.

I have exactly the same issue with Tomatoes. This year I did something different - I grew my 3 "staple" varieties (Australian Red, Sweetie and Mortgage Lifter), then I grew 15 other varieties to try. Instead of growing all 15 myself, I shared them with friends and family. They were happy as they got free seedlings and I was happy as I got to taste the fruit without managing so many plants.

How were your Mortgage LIfters? I grew that variety, but because of a cold spring, most of them didn't ripen. They seemed mealy. I did have a 2 lb. tomato! I plan to try again, but I was wondering about your experience with the taste.

Have you thought of advertising locally for people to share the packets of seeds with? Our library has a free seed distribution corner. A small group of keeners grow their propagation seeds in strict isolation conditions, come together to clean, package them in small envelopes & stack them in the cubby, display shelves in the library. Great, free service. But you could ask people to chip in to cover your outlay. Tell them to bring their own envelopes & Pens!

Over the past year I discovered propegation and at the same time starting experimenting with planting seeds from various fruits we were eating, so my house is inundated with lemon trees, avocado trees, apple trees, peach trees, as well as philodendron, kalancho (sp?), diffenbachia (sp?), and rubber plants!

Last season I had great results with the super sweet 100 and washington cherry tomato varieties versus the celebrity tomatoes. I grow spicy peppers. I want to try them all. I grow indoors in the winter too. But what always happens is I grow way too many, and I just start to ignore them after the novelty runs out. I'm all excited while they are growing and especially when they are fruiting. Then I try it a few times and enjoy it, only to completely forget about it and focus on another one where the cycle would continue. I tell my neighbors and friends to come get what they want but you only need so much of a super spicy pepper. People tell me to sell them or sell sauces but I don't feel like it lol.

In my two person household (plus one pup), I had over 30 tomato plants last year. There were 9 varieties but everything germinated and my sister didn’t want any of them for her garden. I’m the only one who eats tomatoes in the house. I still have some in my freezer 😂. Botanical Interests also has good seeds. Baker Creek is my “go-to” for seeds. I just recently ordered from Johnny’s for the first time but I’ve heard great things about them. Also my first time ordering from Pepper Joe’s. They had the peppers I was looking for but I never heard of them. I love that you made Dale ice cream ❤. I make biscuits for my pup, Myles. (Oat flour, pumpkin, egg and peanut butter)

Cherokee Purple and Costoluto Genovese were the most prolific and memorable. the Genovese was too sweet for sauce and on the small side. I found a site that had tomatoes from around the world. I had Russian, Polish, etc. The heat was a major problem for production. I used Reimer seeds website, Tomatofest, and some others. "Not planning" to buy more seeds this year, lol. Collecting seeds is very rewarding and less expansive compare to collect other material stuff, I keep telling myself, because it's cheap: you pay 3 or 4 dollars for a pack of seeds that has the potential to turn into 60 or 300 plants, depending on the plant or the variety . And it's fun to do, because after you bought them, then you have to learn about them, do a deep dive, hours and hours of fun. Eventually, you make a plan to try to grow as much of these as you can in the space that you have, and of course you never have enought space, so you devise strategy to increase your space. You enjoy being outdoor, enjoy the wonders of experiments, and at the end you collect something that you can cook, eat, preserve, brag about. Collecting seeds comes with the passion of gardening. No guilt.

I’m a seedhead! Mostly tomatoes and peppers. This year I’m obsessing over zinnias. I searched how and low for Benary Giant seeds. I wanted to get them locally and was able to find them at Sprouts. 🌸

I am at 34 types of tomatoes, but I also collect salads (currently at 142 types of salad and salad greens). And I only have 10 raised beds. So yeah, I get you. My new year resolution is to NOT buy seeds this year, because last year I bought over 300 packets and I need to use them up.

I love it. Embrace the chaos. I ordered 45 varieties of tomatoes, and this is my 2nd year as a gardener. I'm also picking up Dosatron fertilizer injectors and will be training to single stem, so to be fare it will be the equivalent biomass to maybe 10-20 indeterminates allowed to grow willy nilly.

This year I did the bulk of my seed purchases through Harris, Holmes and Pinetree (also TGS which you mentioned). Harris tends to have free shipping deals throughout the year which is huge, Holmes has a lot of the same varieties as Harris and Johnny’s and most of the time they are less expensive, and Pinetree isn’t the best for tomatoes, but their catalog for other veggies is great and prices extremely reasonable. While I’ve had great results with seeds from Johnny’s, High Mowing, Gurneys etc the shipping costs just kill me so I prefer to order from the smaller guys.

lol I agree! Must...have.....alllllll....the......tomatoes!!!! lol I have tons of seeds, I forgot how many I have. I have one full seed box just for tomatoes. Gotta try them all! I have my "standards" I will never give up and then it's like ooooooo look at those, let's try those! lol I feel the pain! :) It's okay if you've got the space. I always try to do 3-4 of each that way if one or two goes down I still have one. I also share my seeds. :) I do Baker Creek, Seed Saves and love me some MI Gardener! Can't beat Luke! :)

I have been collecting apple varieties. My collection is still small (60 varieties), but I am grafting another 11 this year. I started learning to graft last year and most of my grafts were successful, so I am excited and will keep adding every year. I joined a scion exchange group and there are so many cool varieties out there. I am also collecting other fruit varieties, but there is so much diversity in apples. So many to collect!

I have the same problem. I have 100's of tomatoes varities. Peas cucumbers peppers and beans too all have multiple dozens of varieties. Don't ask how many pumpkin and squash I have, I'm still trying to not buy more. I've got dozens of citrus and every banana. I have a problem with figs this year, I went from buying one new fig tree a year to populating a nursery with cuttings in the house that I rent. I have this problem with chickens and their pretty little eggs too. This year I'm growing every medicinal plant I can get to pop. I want every olive there is too.

I too have a seed addiction. Yes I also swore off buying any more varieties of tomato seeds but then I found untapped varieties on Baker's Creek. I am currently busy starting onion seeds and flower seeds here in Virginia in zone 6b. It used to be shoes and pocketbooks but now it's seeds. You know in case the world ends I'll survive on 6 plastic boxes of seeds. I'll restart the world lol.

Tomatoes and peppers! Twenty-seven varieties is a normal tomato planting. I've had as many as 40 at once...same for peppers. It's a matter of what's practical. I have loads of room to plant, but the reason tomatoes and peppers get so much of it is because they're so versatile. I process my own food so toms can be dried, juiced, canned whole. I make and preserve marinara sauce, tomato juice, and salsa. For peppers, I pickle them, chutney them, and dry them. Other than herbs, nothing gets as much space as toms and peppers because they're not nearly as versatile. The reason I choose so many varieties is that I want my very favorites only. I test out new ones yearly while keeping my old faves. If I don't like a tom or pepper, it's crossed off the list never to visit my garden again.

Fellow youtuber, Kevin from Epic Gardening, now owns Botanical Interests. He is out west in zone 10 I believe. San Diego California. I've had some good luck with some of his stuff. That all being said, my local Nursery sells Botanical Interests seeds as well as Sprouts Farmers Market.

I have the same issue with tomatoes. Don't ever go to Tomatopalooza in Raleigh with NC Tomato Man Craig LeHoullier. It will really awaken a tomato monster inside you. I think I tried growing like 100 varieties the next year after going. We've basically settled on a couple really good ones we like with Cherokee Purple being the top. Sungold is another good one. Sat here shaking my head but I'm no better, for me it's dahlias and I'm beyond obsessed, I have easily 50+ varieties and I still buy more. It is partly to narrow down the ones best for cut flowers which I'll increase my stock of through cuttings and then sell the varieties that didnt make the cut. I only do a few varieties of tomatoes, mostly plums as that's what we enjoy eating. If you have any suggestions for the best tasting varieties please let me know.

I always feel like I missed the boat when people start talking about all of the seed varieties they have. I only have three tomato varieties, two squash, three melons, three peppers, two cabbage, one pumpkin, three onions, six flowers, three lettuces, one spinach, one swiss chard, three potatoes, two beans, one broccoli, one beet, two corn, two peas and one variety of each herb (except for thyme, of which I have many 2 colors and 2 flavors). Should I expand my garden to plant extra varieties, and why?
