Very nice space, Jordan. I can totally concur that having a room with a vibe is much more fertile ground for creativity than either an untreated bedroom, or a dungeon where there is so little reflection its nothing like how sound is going to propagate when listeners digest it.

You’re right- every one dreams of their perfect studio. There ain’t no shame in that. If you can make your dreams come true - you’d be ungrateful not doing so. Thank you for sharing! I have similar thoughts of the Apple display - I have one too. My studio is tiny and I miss having a second screen. For anyone on a budget, a cheap way of getting less hvac noise is not having a grill, and having as few/shallow turns in the ductwork as possible. Insulated supply boxes transitioning from duct to opening. Source: I’m a former hvac tech who has been a recording engineer for 15 years and built my own recording studio inside an old 2k sq ft shop.

8:42 The new space looks great man. I’m sure you’ve already looked into them, but Argosy makes some great options for desks. Most have integrated racks for the interfaces and outboards, etc. You can also mount the monitor directly to the desk (those stands come off with a couple of screws) and make for a cleaner look. The Argosy desks usually have it as an option, or you can always go with the Humanscale ones or a cheaper knockoff (they’re essentially the standard in office buildings.) I personally have a dual screen setup I use in my mix room and the monitor arms make for a lot of white space on the desk I wouldn’t otherwise have.

Looks awesome, regarding the sound of the room - have you considered increasing the depth of any of the acoustic panels at least at your first reflection points in the monitoring position? 2 inch depth with an air gap will still leave alot of 200 and below information bouncing around and possibly be confusing based off of the research I've been doing. In any case congrats, the space looks great!
@patrick5301
@patrick5301 2 ай бұрын
I don't get what those thin panels do. Idealy you would have 40 inch + absorption covering 100% of the surface area. Everything else is a tradeoff. Why go down all the way to 2 inches? Surely the entire ceiling at least could have done with 20 inches + the entire back wall? Even typing 5 inches into an absorption calculator gives you 50% effectiveness at 500Hz and 0% below 100Hz

Build or buy a cool desk! :) I actually built a desk out of of scrap wood and an old DVD stand. It took me about 4 hours to complete and people can't believe it's not a pro desk. I'm surprised more people don't use mixers as the main control for home studio recording. They have on board pre amps, compression and EQ's not to mention fx, panning and summing capabilities. You can pick up a 16 channel analog mixer (some that actually work as a DAW controller) for relatively cheap. The I/O thing never made sense to me. When I started a home studio I got a Pre Sonus Single channel Pre Amp I/O then upgraded to an 8 Channel Motul and NEVER got a decent sound out of these set ups. Now I run a Tascam Model 12 with Studio One Pro and a fairly built PC. I just added an MXL 990 for the main vocal mic and have an ART Pro VLA outboard compressor. The EQ, compression and effects of the mixer along with the outboard compressor make it so I have to do almost no processing in the box. The MXL 990 is a mic I found while spending tons of money on dozens of expensive mics. This thing works great for recording everything. Anyways, what are your thoughts on why people aren't using mixers more? Maybe they’re too confusing for people to figure out? I'm not sure.
