As a rock hounder myself I can say I have found moonstone and stuff but not any of these gems good job man!

This was really silly but I give him dibbs for his hard work and for finding an emerald in matrix from the Crabtree mine. As a long time mineral collector who has dug in Hiddenite and at the Crabtree, I can tell you that Hiddenite isn't easy and is much less rewarding than it use to be. When the Adam and Ellis tracks were open before the tourist mine Emerald Hollow, one could go to these mines and sometimes plowed fields and have decent results, if they didn't find emerald, they might find exceptional smoky quartz, rutile, rutilated quartz, etc. The crabtree near Spruce Pines has long been lots of funs even when the previous owners operated the road-side tourist mine where ore was trucked from the mine beside the road and you had the little rock shop across from the road. I personally saw a man and his son find a beautiful 2" long emerald crystal in matrix there back in the 1980's. The other NC locality that never gets mentioned is the Turner and Plantation emerald mines south of Shelby in Cleveland county. These two mines had some gem quality emerald and aquamarine but have long since closed and are off limits to the public. So really, emeralds have been produced in three counties in NC and reported in several others in very minor quantities.
