One piece of advice, try to meet native people in addition to the friendships you can make with your Erasmus classmates, the natives will show you surprising things that no one else could show you and your knowledge of Spanish will increase by 1000%. Hi Eloise! I lived in VLC for a couple of months and you defs need to go to El Palmer for the best bestest sunsets and also the paella there is unreal! My bf and I used to drive there but there's a bus too :) For food there's a place called Mercabanyal which gives really cool market vibes with different stalls--super vibey. Soana is great for a cheap-ish chic 3 course meal (but book in advance). Erasmus day trips to Montanejos, Chuilla etc are a great way to see the see the nearby areas, get into nature and make friends! La Turia is great for running and biking if that's your thing. If you can I would highly recommend watching a football match there. It's not insanely expensive like in the UK if you buy tickets early and the atmosphere is insane Wishing you all the best on your new chapter!

Omg, so true! The more I immerse into Spanish, the less I feel that I know, lol. Putting together a simple sentence can be tragic for me, even if I can watch full Spanish vlogs and understand. It’s very interesting, practicing speaking is a must :)

Wow, I think it’s totally understandable that you feel a bit weird about making friends, as you’ve just come from Paris to another “foreign” city. Even though you’ve flourished in Paris and you loved it, it still is not home. I’ve lived abroad quite a lot, too and while it is exciting and life changing it can also be very challenging (mentally especially). Take it easy, take care of yourself and enjoy your new home! x

I feel you so much!! The same happens to me with French 🥲(my mother tongue is Spanish and I moved to a French speaking country) but taking baby steps and slowly putting myself out there to speak even more and more in French with my French friends (even though my accent is not quite as good as I would like) has helped me a lot. Also, I would suggest trying to learn as much vocabulary and expressions as you can related to daily activities such as going out for coffee, buying groceries, going to the gym or taking the public transport in Spanish, that way you will be prepared to use your Spanish whenever it is spontaneously needed and you'll feel more confident with your skills every time. P.S. now you can start having café con leche and pan tumaca for breakfast everyday 🥳

If you struggle coming up with needed words I recommend you to practice with yourself, thinking out loud talking to yourself in Spanish because it’s practice without pressure and time to look things up. And learn general terms that you can describe many things, eg. tela (cloth) that you can describe towels, bedding and thousands of things with or jabón (soap), parte (that part.. of.. - how is it called?). Furniture (muebles) and many categories to get closer to what you mean. Describing words you are looking for to Spaniards is much nicer than using the phone to look up words since the convo isn’t interrupted and people are super happy to help!! I assure you, and if not they are a gilipollas (idiot) ❤️

How do you afford it? I have to go uni in two weeks in London to study either Spanish or German and I can’t decide. I want to move to Spain after I graduate but I’m scared of the salary being unable to afford it as I’ll need my own apartment/house as I have a dog. I feel like German is the safer option but I’ve not visited neither of those countries so I’m unsure of what to choose🤧x
