EDIT: There seem to be a few skeptics, which is fair I suppose, so here's a video from another angle: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bryCfdaQvdWcqYE.htmlsi=H7SYUAdX2HBxFzDo Hello everyone! Due to the sheer size of this undertaking, I have run into some of KZfaq's limitations: - I can't seem to have more than 100 chapters (timestamps), so I've had to group countries together rather haphazardly. - I've had to restrict the timestamp descriptions to country names, as I would otherwise run into the 5000 character limit. Also, some minor things I noticed or was made aware of: - I miss Mombasa when doing Kenya, but notice this at 2:43:58 - I somehow forgot to add the flag and facts for Maldives - In Norway, *Møre- og Romsdal* was already completed, not Vestland This took 6 hours to render. 3 earlier attempts led to crashes, once at 97%. Enjoy! P.S. I regret not adding some more context to my brief comments on Ukraine/Russia. I meant that I can understand why JetPunk has chosen to consider Crimea Russian as it has been under Russian control for a decade. That said, I also understand that de facto conditions is *not* all that matters, and that by calling it Russian, one contributes to making the whole situation feel more normal/acceptable. In trying to give context to JetPunk's choice, but also wanting to move along as fast as possible, it came out way too nonchalant and one-sided.

This is a feat that no human has accomplished and uploaded for the world to see. The amount of time and effort put into this is absolutely astounding. I congratulate you heavily on this, I am dumbfounded on how you even managed to remember all of these names, especially when the translation of them comes out with extremely awkward spelling. You have come a very long way from naming the subdivisions by continent, which was already impressive enough. Outstanding work, Mercateer 👍👍

I am currently trying to learn the subdivisions of every country as well. I can name the subdivisions of Us, Canada, Brazil,France, uk, Italy,Spain,Germany,Greece,Australia ,Japan and the republics of Russia . It is just insane how a human being managed to memorise each and every one of the subdivisions of the world. A very impressive feat. Keep up the good work!

Anhui is pronounced as: An-hway. When it comes to China, I love how geographically sensible the provinces are and how many are in pairs. You got the Yellow River (Huanghe) separating the provinces of Hebei (north of the river, where bei means north) and Henan (south of the river, where nan means south); then south from those you have Dongting Lake (Dongtinghu) separating Hubei (north of the lake) and Hunan (south of the lake) provinces. Also, you have Shandong (Eastern Mountains) and Shanxi (Western Mountains). Way down south you have The Eastern (dong) Expanse (Guangdong) and the Western (xi) Expanse (Guangxi). This dosen't stop with provinces. Beijing means northern capital while Nanjing means southern capital. Tokyo by the way means eastern capital. There is no Western capital, but there is a "Western Peace," or Xi'an. In the south east however, the provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangxi may seem similar in naming convention, but are quite different, they both refer to a different river which flow through them. Anyhow, this was mind-numbingly impressive!

For me personally, I like to learn maps because I find it entertaining and fulfilling, I get to learn about other places and their history and gets me interested in events in other countries, it also helps me in learning language scripts like Greek and Cyrillic, and honestly just because I can and I'm interested. This is seriously impressive and I am glad to see that people share this passion. You have an incredible memory, seriously impressive!

This was mindblowing, astounding and so much more, but I think the comment section already covers all possible synonyms which I could use. I myself have been eyeing this quiz for perhaps more than a year now, but I could never find the motivation nor time to do it. I wonder what you found to be the hardest country or countries to remember, either because of the amount of provinces or because of the hard to learn spelling? And I'm also already looking forward to your next video, which you said might be flags of all subdivisions, but where on earth can you find such a quiz? And what are your plans for after that one? All capitals of subdivisions? Cause I know Jetpunk has a quiz for that one too. Oh and perhaps for stage 3 you could do all seas, all lakes, all highest points, al existing languages, etc. But above all I would be excited to see your knowledge of cities in stage 3/4, perhaps with the Jetpunk quiz of all 100k cities of the world. Oh and now that I'm on it already, you could make stage 4 more country specific. Like all 3143 US counties or do a more varied video with all geography from one country in particular, like I saw you comment with for instance the UK somewhere in this commentsection. Feel free to use these as inspiration, though I think you wouldn't mind taking a rest first after your latest achievement. It's not that I demand you to do these things, but it's just my vision of what would be next step(s) and above all, I would be immensely baffled and most definitely watching every single video with joy if you did these (especially the city ones).
@MercateerGeo
@MercateerGeo 4 ай бұрын
First of all, thanks for your comment! I really appreciate that you took the time to write it. When I said I'd do subdivision flags next, I didn't necessarily mean I'd do them all right away. Part of the reason for that is that an exhaustive quiz doesn't even exist to my knowledge (which you seemed to suspect as well), but there are also many subdivisions that don't have flags at all, and many only have unofficial ones, or flags of unclear status. I also quite like starting regionally because shorter videos give me some room to add interesting context without immediately increasing the length to several hours. As for what comes next, I'm not sure. I've also thought of second-level subdivisions for selected countries and cities, like you mentioned. I'm still not sure what direction to take as I didn't really plan beyond subdivisions, and never expected to get this much attention. Languages also interest me a lot, but I'm still not quite sure how I'd go about packaging that in an entertaining format. Do I just to quizzes or venture into doing some purely educational videos? Also, the stage 1/stage 2 thing just kind of happened, and now I'm not sure if people actually want multiple consecutive videos on one category, it feels like it would be more interesting to mix it up. But there's also a limit to how much I can study simultaneously 😅 This is turning into stream-of-consciousness, but I appreciate the comment and will definitely keep those ideas in mind!
