In memory of Joe Burke, may he rest in peace. I ndílchuimhne Joe Burke, ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Conor Tully, Joe Burke & Anne Conroy Burke le cúpla port, Port Paddy Fahy & An Fhuiseog ar an Trá i dTuaim i 1997.
Ceoltóir agus múinteoir ceoil ó Chontae na Gaillimhe, Joe Burke atá imithe ar shlí na fírinne.
Rugadh an boscadóir Joe Burke i gCillín a Díoma, Baile Locha Riach in oirthear na Gaillimhe sa mbliain 1939. Thosaigh sé ag seinnt an bosca ceoil gan é ach cheithre bliain d'aois. Bhi sé ina bhall de Bhanna Céilí Liatroma (paróiste in oirthear na Gaillimhe) a bunaíodh i 1955 le ceoltóirí mar Paddy Doorley (an fhidil ),Tony Molloy & Paddy Carthy (an fheadóig mhór).
Chaith sé cuid mhaith blianta i Mericeá agus is ann a chas sé ar chuid de cheoltóirí móra na linne, Andy McGann agus Felix Dolan ina measc.
Bhí an- suim aige i stíl Shligigh fidiléireachta agus bhí an-tionchar ag Michael Coleman ar a chuid ceoil dar leis fhéin. D'eisigh sé cnuasach in éineacht le Felix Dolan agus Andy McGann do cheol Michael Coleman i 1965. An bhliain céanna thug Andy McGann Joe Burke ar cuairt chuig teach Lad O'Beirne i Nua Eabhrach agus is ansin a thug Lad O'Beirne dhá diosca 'acetate' dó le Michael Coleman agus Lad O'Beirne ag seinnt ins an teach sna 40 'daí, ceol nár eisíodh go poiblí ariamh . Le cúpla mí anuas tugadh na dioscaí seo do ITMA chun digitiú agus tá cuid den cheol sin anois le cloisteáil ar an suíomh acu. Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam uasal.
Féach chuig an nasc thíos le teacht ar tuille físeáin de Joe Burke ó Chartlann Ceoil TG4.

Such an extraordinary musician and champion of the Irish tradition, but Joe was so much more: with his twinkling eyes and ready laugh, one of Ireland's great cultural ambassadors the world over; a fine hurler in his youth (to hear him tell it); and a musical educator to the many aspiring young accordion players who came to KIlnadeema from all over the Republic to attend his, and Anne's, classes. When Joe got a head of steam telling stories, he could give Eamon Kelly a fair run. I imagine that now he and Andy McGann are sharing tunes and tales, along with Michael Coleman, and Joe Cooley, and O'Carolan, and Tom Billy and all the rest, up there in that celestial pub where it's never closing time and no one ever heard of a hangover.

I saw Joe Burke play at The Ceol Castle in Birmingham not long after I started trying to play the B/C box back in 2002 ish. I was lucky to meet a great Irish Musician and a lovely man living in Birmingham named Pat Molloy (Pat Molloy Summer School) and had quite a few lessons with him which turned into a bit of a social as well. So Pat suggested I go and listen to the Maestro Joe Burke which I did and at the start of the second half of the gig Joe Burke made reference to Pat saying "Many a tune we have shared in the early hours of the morning on top of the hill" I asked Pat what he was referring to and Pats explanation was that him and Joe lived in neighbouring villages and were both in Celi bands that always had gigs on saturday nights. Apparently when they were on there way back home they used to both have to use the same crossroads somewhere on the side of a hill and whoever was first used to wait for the other band and stop and they would have some tunes at the crossroads. Wouldnt have fancied it in the winter but would have been quite something at 3am on a summers morning. We will never see there like again and have to say the perfomance by Joe Burke that night was just amazing and to date is still the best I have seen. RIP

Bhí mé díreach roimh titim a chodladh oíche Dé Sathairn nuair a scairteadh amach ó sheomra codlata m’ínion go bhfuair Joe Burke bás. Ar FB a léigh m’íníon é. Smaoinigh mé ar an nuacht sin. Thuig mé ag an nóiméad siúd, le hinstinn, go raibh rud éigin ollmhór tar éis titim amach ach, foraor, bhí tuairseach orm agus lig mé dom fhéin gluaiseacht i dtreo tír na mbringlóidí, go síochánta, i ndorachadas na hoíche. Inné, (De Domhnach) chaith mé an lá iomlán ag machnamh ar Sheosamh de Búrca, fiú amháin le linn an Aifrinn. Smaoinigh mé ar cé chomh cumasach is a bhí sé ar an mbosca ceoil, a mhéara ag rince, suas síos na cnaipí ar a Phaolo Soprani dearg íocónach nó ar a Bhertrand Gaillard, smaoinigh mé ar conas a chaith sé a shaol ag folamh, ag cleachtadh, ag deanamh teagasc ar, agus faoi dheireadh, ag múineadh, ceol traidisiúnta na hÉireann; ceol a chuala sé ina theach cónaithe ó rugadh é. Smaoinigh mé ar na Conmhaícne Mheáin Maigh, ar Uí Máine, ar Naomh Brendáin, ar Chluain Fearta, ar Cillín a Díoma, ar Baile Locha Riach … ar an tobar cheoil atá suite in oirdheisceart na Gaillimhe. Inniú, is léir go ba mhaith le daoine ar fud na cruinne cobhrón a dhéanamh le muintir na gclann de Búrca agus Ó Maolconaire. Mise chomh maith. Ba mhaith liom cobhrón a dhéanamh go háirithe le Ann ar an ócáid seo. Nî ghá duinn bheith ró-bhronach áfach. Aithríonn gach rud ar an bpláinéad seo le himeacht ama ach tá teagmháil déanta ag Joe agus Ann lénar gcroí; teagmháil le cion domhain. Do bhuaigh siad ní amháin ár n-ardmheas ach ár gean dúinn freisin. Tá mé cinnte go mbeidh ticéad ceannaithe ag na haingil cheana féin le bheith i measc na chéad daoine a fhreastalóidh ar cheann de ceolchoirmeacha iomadúla a thabharfaidh Joe le linn na síoraíochta. Ní chuirfeadh sé aon ionadh orm dá mbeadh páirt speisialta beartaithe aige dó fhéin le haghaidh ceolchoirm na Nollag! Bhí an-ghreann ag Joe. Ar dheis Rí na Grásta go raibh a anam dílis. Slán agus beannacht a Sheosaimh.

Somebody (I thought on this page) had identified it as 'Jennifer Molloy's'. I checked the irishtune.info index and that is the most common name for it, also known as 'Eddie Kelly's'. It features on Track 11 of the 'Snug in the Blanket' album. It does have a Paddy Fahey feel to it. www.irishtune.info/album/SnugBl/ The second tune is 'The Lark in The Strand' (older version). Joe, (RIP) plays it here with Jackie Daly on the 'Sé Mo Laoch' series (2nd tune here too). kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m7GJnqt-08XdcWw.html
