Welcome to our video on how to install motorcycle frame sliders on the Kawasaki Z H2. Crash bungs are quite an important mode to do on almost any motorcycle, limits damage if the bike falls over. But is it worth doing it yourself? Lets find out!

Don't forget to notify your insurer about any non standard modifications that you make to your bike. If the frame gets bent due to a collision, or similar, there is a likelihood that your insurers will use the crash bungs as a reason for not paying out. It may be a minor mod, but I am aware of this happening.

I believe that part is supposed to slide in the hole for added strength. You could've press fit it using the same bolt and some washers on the back of the insert.

There’s a reason Kawasaki charge 250 quid for frame sliders that bolt and frame slider like R and G products is specifically designed for the bike if you have an accident and they see that you modified a frame bolt they will laugh at you and refuse to pay out its now structurally unsafe a random bolt is useless coming from an engineer of 25 years best to put those in the dustbin now before they cause an accident 👍

I had a R&G frame sliders bolt fail and snap in half and leave the bolt and nut still on the engine so the front left of engine wasn't supported on my Z650 from normal road riding. Had to use a dremel to get it out or it would've been an engine removal job. Replaced with OEM factory bolts. My advice would be to avoid any aftermarket tat on your motorcycle. I actually seen on a forum the exact same thing on a z650 and the same method was used to remove it. Also saw another person who's z650 frames cracked because he never noticed he was missing a frame bolt and continued riding. Honestly anyone reading this avoid aftermarket items that are critical.

To protect this kind of motorcycle, £30 ones from ebay seems low quality although they might look nice, R&G ones for this bike i think are about £75. Id rather have ones protect the bike, and not ones that would shatter at a moments notice.

the sliders are two different lengths anyway maybe you could have tried switching them around

The reason it didn't fit is because the recess was damaged when you dropped it previously.

Cheap Chinese crap that will probably break on impact. Go with r&g. As said it’s not a cheap bike, why fit cheap parts?

Good honest video. Personally I think you approached and completed the installation with care and competence. You applied some engineering aptitude in sourcing and selecting a longer bolt which overcame the shortcomings of the installation kit. Some riders would have just given up! Chris Northover of Bike World endorses frame sliders in particular R&G and that is good enough for me. Check out his crash test video.

Doesn't that apply to every frame slider? They all mount on the frame.

@@fuyoh94 It does not help the design, if you elongate it with a bunch of spacers and an extra long screw. Evotech at least, uses two points on the frame to mount it.

my mechanic had a difficult time installing my frame slider on my 2023 zh2..he said it was pretty difficult to install..

I did the same on my zh2 get some paint where you’ve scratched the frame you don’t want it to start rusting

I bought a pair of sliders from China via eBay for my ZX14R. They arrived, bolts too short, went and got a couple of new bolts the right length, come home then realised the thread was metric fine on the bike, so back to the store to get the correct ones. A real pain is the arse for a 10 minute job it took 4 hours.😠

Please no... please dont fit such cheap low quality and poorly designed parts to such a lovely and expensive bike... it deserves better than that. A single bolt attached frame slider will provide a lever arm which could bend the frame in certain scenarios... Evotech have some double bolt offerings (which removes that possibility and also spreads the impact loadings) for a lot of bikes which are a far superior solution to what is really a sub par job... sorry to have to say this, no offence intended.

I'm not so sure, frame sliders for me should only be in case the bike drops at slow speeds. Anything over 20mph, frame sliders probably won't help much, no matter how expensive they are. The kit I featured didn't have the best fitment, but they should do the job well enough for my use case. Maybe more expensive ones do a better job, but its difficult to tell unless you're prepared to sacrifice your bike 😂 Anyone looking to DIY them will probably look for cheaper alternatives, but no it's not the best thing to do, hence why I recommend getting them done professionally. Yup these dont look too sturdy way too long feel like the slightest tip will break them off. I got ones from ebay too but they have a much wider contact surface and are shorter but long enough to protect the fairings. I have had a few falls and they have served well but these don't look like they wil last

I had R&G sliders on my z650 and the bolt on the left side snapped in half from normal road riding and left half the bolt still on the engine with the captive nut so it couldn't be removed. My local Kawasaki dealer said it might be a engine remove job and cost a decent amount. Luckily the mechanic just used a Dremel on the bolt end and managed to get it out. But it made a bit of a mess of the engine and the metal captive area. Replaced both with factory engine bolts. If you look at Kawasaki's own genuine frame sliders they don't remove the factory bolt. Was the previous owner who got them installed but after that I will never put anything R&G on my motorcycles. Cheap tat as far as I'm concerned. I've had 4 R&G tail tidys in total snap on my old zx6rs and 10r. Replaced both with oem fenders and they never broke once.

You created your own thread puller tool, silly mistake it should of been obvious to you that it should but up before screwing home !! I was cringing watching it, also good quality frame slider bolts are designed to bend under load to save damaging frame or engine, + if bolts are two long you can crack engine block depending on mounting location, its better to have cut your teeth earlier mechanically on cheap bikes before attempting jobs on expensive highly engendered ones, still we live and learn but at what expence? Personally i refuse to have frame sliders cant stand them, i think their dangerous on the road ie; pot holes ect, but keep the content going as i have a zzr1400 % h2 and do enjoy watching😅

If you crash your motorcycle hard enough to where you need to replace the frame because it bend with the factory bolts your bikes a total right off anyways. Everything else is gonna be damaged. It's new bike time at that point. A bolt designed to snap won't save it.
