I think it was, but it could’ve been the ice side of his Quirk manifesting, He would’ve been happier to die that way because Endeavour would realise that he was the perfected child just like Todoroki was.

am i bad if i want this to be canon? like the end was just so sad and a few days ago i saw a tiktok like that and i almost cryed bc of it. it was so similar to the end of the video bc endeavor was just hugging touya and he was like you can rest now. i dont want him to die but i think it would be a beautiful ending of his life if he just could finally rest in his father's arms. he may be angry at him and he may hate him but i just can image him to just cry on his shoulders and endeavor to just gently hug him and tell him that he can rest now. i would cry for real.

The reason why Shoto killed Dabi in this animatic, is probably because Shoto can see how angry, and miserable Dabi was. He was trying to give Dabi a quick way out, so he could be happy. Plus, Dabi was about to attack them. So

Ha, I really like your suggestion! But in fact, everything is much simpler. If the song had been longer, I would have shown how shocked Shoto was at the realization of what he had done. In my mind, Shoto was squinting hard, and he didn't know where he was aiming. He just wanted to stop his crazy brother somehow. Dabi's murder was an accident. But thank you for your thoughts!

I know it’s sad but if you think about it due to his quirk and his body unable to handle it Touya/Dabi was always destined to die young even now in the manga it’s confirmed he only survived this long due to his hated but now he just looks like a walking corpse

Shoto's ice pierced Dabi's jaw. At first I wanted it to be a blow to the throat, but it will do. It can be assumed that the ice reached the skull, so Dabi is generally bad there.

I’m happy Touya is still alive in canon, but I kind of think this abrupt, anticlimactic death with the horror of the aftermath would have been a beautiful, dare I say perfect end to Touya from a writing perspective. Think about it. Shoto realises what he did and is horrified, Enji is completely broken, Natsu is overflowing with shock, rage, grief and and regret. Fuyumi finally breaks down after forcing herself to be strong this whole time. Rei regresses a lot of her progress and returns to hospital. Imagine to story possibilities for Todoroki family aftermath! But as a Touya fan, I’m glad he’s still alive. Even though I don’t believe he can be saved in the end.
