This is a really good activity to do with your pet mouse or any kind of rodent 🐭🐰🐹. I seriously recommend doing this because it’s good for their breathing, just to get some fresh air into their little lungs. Plus, their tiny paws will get to touch grass, leaves rocks etc… for the first time ever!! There will probably be what I like to call ‘A sensory explosion’ it’s basicaly when all the different smells, tastes and surfaces make your mouse overwhelmed ( with happiness of course ). Lastly, I really hope you enjoyed watching this video!! P.s - a special thanks to for making such kind comments recently on my posts. It means a lot ❤️.

Oh goodness, please be careful! There can be tiny parasites in outdoor places that will then attach to your mice, such as mites. We’ve been keeping mice for about fifteen years now, and all the research I’ve done warned to freeze or bake any wood or other natural items you bring in from outdoors before putting them in the mouse habitat. But obviously you can’t freeze or bake your mice! Do you use a treatment of some kind on their fur afterwards?

@@lechking941they aren’t resistant to parasites. It’s one of the most common reasons they’re brought to a vet. It’s uncomfortable and not a risk worth taking when they don’t actually need to be outdoors. I’d always say, bringing the outdoors inside and sanitising everything so that they can experience some of nature without the risks is worth giving a go!

Not to worry, it isn’t always easy to find information on mouse-keeping since so few people seem to do it these days! I always worried about birds back before I’d read up the subject, as well, especially since we have a kestrel hanging around this area. You have really beautiful mice, btw! ❤️

Yeah I always wanted to do that but yeah it’s not a good idea because birds will get them faster then you can stop them and the mice might run away and you’ll never be able to get them back. Plus mites and small insects can infect then potentially. I actually thought about a while back when I opened my mouse box when I had just bought them and they didn’t escape when they totally could have in the parking lot or in the car they can get out to. O.O basically unless your room is sealed they will be gone forever. no one is looking down on you, we all want them to enjoy being outside but it only takes one second to lose the thing you love. Birds are ruthless, and mice are escape artists I love fancy mice ❤

I'm not trying to be rude or mean I'd just like to educate those who are confused on how this is bad for mice and rats. 1. Rats and mice only have one domestic speciese so their aren't breeds, there are varieties but that's mainly color, coat type and ear type. This domestic variety is called fancy, we have fancy mice and we have fancy rats, both animals have relatively sensitive respiratory systems and are very susceptible to fleas, ticks, and mites all of which are very easy to get outdoors, all it takes is 1 or 2 mites or fleas and you could end up with an infestation that costs 50$ to 100$ to treat because rats and mice cannot be treated with normal flea products and need to be treated with a very specific kitten flea treatment that you have to have prescribed by the vet, you shouldn't bathe mice or rats unless absolutely necessary (ei for mites with a medicated wash your vet will give you that helps restore skin damage and kill the mites) so a bath will not work to get rid of mites or fleas. Rats and mice are also susceptible to internal parasites which they can get from eating plants from the ground, as Grass is a very common for other animals to dedicate leaving behind parasite eggs which can then be consumed by another animal that is actually why its so easy for dogs to get intestinal parasites, they get many from an improper diet causing them to eat grass. Rats and mice while not made to eat grass will nibble it and that's kinda all it takes, one nibble could lead to intestinal parasites if that nibble contained parasite eggs. 2. Hawks and other Predators, it doesn't matter how much you are watching them or how much you are hovering over them I've legit watched hawks snatch small dogs (well try) right out of their owners hands if they see a meal they do not care, this is very very dangerous especially with hawks who dive bomb their prey and could possibly injure you or the mice, it's not the hawks fault hawks gotta eat, but it is irresponsible to think something couldn't happen because you are watching them 24/7. 3. Rats and mice are indoor animals, house mice which are most closely related to fancy mice aka those mice you have in your house that you wanna get rid of, cannot live outdoors, in fact they will freeze to death or overheat and are also susceptible to parasites and are not weather or rain hardy. The same goes for these fancy mice and while yes it's a sunny day the temperature could still negatively effect them and cause a respiratory infection, there's also risk of exposure to allergies. 4. Rats and mice do somthing called blueing when stressed it is where you can see the blue lid of their eyes, this is a sign of very high stress and stress is very dangerous for small rodents 5. You should be brining the outdoors in for them, if you wish to provide natural enrichment you should plant them a small garden dig box, add some cat grass, give them natural branches and soil to nest in, these animals require relitivly large cages mice requiring- 40 gallon tank or more depending on how many mice you have (mice can still be kept in tanks and I still reccomend them for mice due to them meeting the proper space requirements they need more frequent cleaning but imo no other cage types meet proper sizing and don't allow escape) And rats requiring- a wired cage the best size is a critter nation, they cannot be kept in tanks. Both of these options allow plenty space to bring the outdoors in, my rats have a dig box and many natural wood climbing structures, they get a lot of natural food in their foraging mix. In closing it is complelty unnecessary and dangerous to bring your rats or mice outside, rats I will say you can be a bit more lenient on and take places with you if they are properly harnessed and are in a carrier while in the open, ei if you wish to take them to an expo you may but don't walk outdoors in the open with them make sure they are crated until you get to the expo, the same can be said for mice but they are much more susceptible to stress

Mice don't have types or breeds they are all fancy mice, these mice are very very stressed if you look at the eyes you can see the blues, yes they are also curious and excited but this is also very stressful, and complwtly unnecessary, if you are watching or not parasites are a huge risk with this, you should never put any domestic rodent on the ground outside, shoulder carrying is fine but I wouldn't even reccomend that for fear of hawks, but domestic mice and rats are super susceptible to fleas and rats and very hard to treat as they can only have a specialized kitten flea treatment from a vet that tends to cost 80 to 100 dollars for a dose for all your rodents

Hi! I have a mouse with 2 grape sized tumors. She is moving around though and is super healthy- eating, drinking, moving around, etc. I took her to the vet and they told me to give her antibiotics (I actually put them in a small piece of bread, is that ok?) But she is still scratching it and its not becoming smaller. What should i do? Is theyre anything you know of that relieves itchiness and pain/uncomfortableness? Thanks so much! (Btw your mice are super cute) also the vet says Thats since she is small mouse, we can remove them.
@squeaktube
@squeaktube Жыл бұрын
Hey Petopiaa !! I carefully read your comment and I appreciate you reaching out to me. My pet mouse Cornflake ( the one in the video ) had a tumour too ( they are sadly common in mice ). She got antibiotics for it that we put it in her food. She never seemed to eat it though, our mice, maybe not all mice but Cornflake and Badger never seemed to be driven by food / hunger, so it was really hard to get Cornflake to eat the antibiotics we put in her food. But yes !! Putting the food in a piece of bread was a good thing to do !! That's what I did too. Cornflake soon developed another tumour, much bigger this time and it just got in the way of things. We brought her to the vet and the vet said the kindest thing to do was to put her down. Even though Cornflake wasn't in any pain, it would have just got worse as time went on. That's Cornflakes story though, not your mouses. I don't want to worry you by telling you this but I just thought I would share my experience with you because we learn from each other. Its just great that your vet offered to potentially remove the tumours !! Answering your question, no, I don't know any itch and irritation preventing medication. I have pet mice of my own but I'm not a professional and by all means, I don't want to give you any improper advice or false information. So, if it was me, I would organise check-ups with the vet and maybe get those tumours off sooner rather than later. The good thing is though, she ( or he ) is probably not in any pain but just mildly irritated. Even if worst comes to worst, she wont be in any pain either way. Lets look on the bright side though before we assume though !! So, tell me ( his or her ) name !! Keep me posted on how ( she or he ) is doing !! Thanks, Squeak Tube, ( You can call me Niamh ).
