Charleston (named Charles Town after the British King) is an AMAZING historic city. South Carolina is a wonderful state and Charleston is one of, if not the best city in America.

Wait for the culture shock and lack of freedoms that the American south has compared to Australia - for example. For women, forget having an abortion. Prepare for religion to be shoved in your face every passing moment. Wait until you see the levels of poverty once you leave the "nice" areas. The Plantation attitude never ended in South Carolina and if they could, they would bring it right back. Who wants to pay workers when you can own them.
