***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.
We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.

I’ve always prayed over my garden, and I’ve found that the garden is such a peaceful place to do a good bit of praying. I’m a 62 year old caretaker of my husband who is a stroke victim for 11 years now. I’m home all the time and even though I have arthritis in my legs and feet, I so much enjoy getting outside and observing the growth and trying things I’ve watched others share on You Tube. What a blessing y’all have been to so many of us.

@@gabbygertie8709 We have been in ministry all our married life. On our travels, we have noted the most godly people we meet are farmers and gardeners. They don’t expect to receive but rather give. They spend hours a day in prayer while they are working. They are dependent on the mercies of God as He gives the increase. Love and blessings to you all! ‘The Lord bless you and keep you, the LORD make His face to shine upon you and give you peace.’

When I could not find tomato clips in 2020 (supply chain/out of stock were the answers at the numerous stores I checked) I looked at what I had in my house and shed. I found pipe cleaners - and they have worked beautifully! I've even used pipe cleaner to hold up winter squash plants as big as the Banana Pink winter squash plants, watermelon, cucumbers.

I am dealing with a Grazon soil damage this year. It came in from cow manure. The farmer sprayed the hay grass and the cows eat it and then they use the manure for compost soil. People buy the contaminated cow manure and use it in the garden and it makes a huge mess with the plants. It is a nightmare to clean up.

I live on GA/SC border outside of Augusta GA. We've already had a dozen or so 100+ degree days. I live in a townhouse and most of my plants are in containers. I was noticing sunburns on many of my citrus trees, tomatoes, and blackberries. I convinced my family to help make a structure to put up a 20% shade cloth to help let as much sun in as was needed for the full sun plants. Since then (last 2 weeks) my plants and THRIVED. Its amazing how much of a small difference can make plants happy or suffer. Thank you for all the tips over the years.

For the sunburns, 50/50 ACV with the mother and cold water compresses, like with flour sack tea towels. It pulls the heat and helps to prevent blistering. I am a red head and just have to think about the sun to burn, and this has been my go to for 15 years or so, since I developed an allergy to aloe because I used it so much. Just make sure to partially ring out the tea towel so you dont make a puddle, and be prepared to smell like a pickle for a while... The first burn of the season always hurts the worst, praying for you, God Bless!!

I am concerned about you even getting sunburns. The sun damages your skin when it burns, it will sho wipe when you are older and could lead to skin cancer. Please be careful! My youngest (Adult)daughter is a redhead and she doesn’t take it seriously and it scares me for her.

I am glad you brought up the soy bean info regarding gmo. There is a lot of soy grown in my area and all the fields are marked with road facing signs which show the licence # etc. Same with corn. I got really interested in studying plants high in oestrogen when I was asked to avoid food containing it, especially soy, because my oncologist noted that the type of tumours I had developed were known to be oestrogen sensitive. There is NO evidence that plants high in oestrogen CAUSE cancers, just that certain types of cancer thrive when they have access to oestrogen.
@colliecoform4854

I find the bigger issue is pumping our children, sons and daughters with estrogen. It is an ingredient in so many products it is almost impossible to avoid completely but worth trying. I also have IBS and soy is one of the things that really irritates my stomach. I have also been told that if you have a lactose intolerance you more than likely also have a soy intolerance.
@grannyontheplane
@grannyontheplane 2 жыл бұрын
@@colliecoform4854 Yes if you are a label checker in the supermarket it is in just about EVERYTHING! And under so many different names that people might not realise it is soy- I would not have known Glycine Max was soy, for example. Soy and other excellent sources of protein should not be eliminated from diets unless you have underlying issues that could be addressed by avoidance. We all need protein. Also, most intolerances come and go, depending on exposure, so it is good to check tolerances occasionally.

I used to work in a big nursery/ greenhouse complex. I was taught this very early on. I saw it for myself with petunias-we had a whole table full of petunia flats flip over in a storm. My boss had me take scissors and trim them flat. In less than 2 weeks, those were our most beautiful flats of flowers. So many people were told that pinching off that first bloom on Salvia and snap dragons and marigolds and so many others would make for a bigger plant and more flowers sooner than leaving them be. There are a few plants that do not need to be pinched back but they are really few. Many veggies benefit from pinching back like peppers and eggplants. On the weeding front, mr Danny at deep south Homestead hurt his knee and bought a little fat wheeled rolling seat! I watched him using it and knew I had to have one. My family bought me one for mothers day and it is wonderful in the garden for weeding I did have to put cushion on mine but its wonderful for just scooting down the row weeding and working. But my tomatoes are no way big as yours. They are just starting to really perk up and grow. Bt is my go to for caterpillars too! Lovely video.

Sarah when you sat down to start weeding I thought to myself I sure hope she has sunscreen on. I hope you're not burned to badly. If so put some white vinegar on the burn. I loved spending time in your garden with you. Blessings to you, Kevin and the girls. Love from Western NY. ❤️

Down here in Texas, we have hit the other range of temperatures. We are having August temps in June. Too hot to set fruit on the tomatoes. Plus, the stink bugs destroy any fruit produced. I only leave the tomatoes so they draw the stink bugs away from the peppers. Seeing a lot of blossom end rot from irregular watering too. Went to order the irrigation system from your Amazon list and the pressure regulated emitters are not available. Ordered regular ones just so I can get the system put in. We are in drought, so I need to plan out more efficient watering and not stress my water well too much. Planning on my fall garden now.

I cannot work in the garden in jeans so I love your cotton pants, they look a lot cooler than jeans do. I go to Goodwill and buy hospital scrubs. The tops usually have pockets for things I need and the pants are lightweight, no buttons or zippers to poke me as I do a lot of bending, and quick drying if I get wet. Love my cheap cheap scrubs.

we used to find those giant green tomatoe catapillars and all of us neighbor kids would stand around the AC unit and drop them into the fan. we would laugh at whoever would get guts flung on them. what a bunch of crazy kids we were.

August has showed up in June. Here in Texas, it has been over 100 most every day for the last 3+ weeks with no rain. Our nights have been in the high 70s and low 80s. My tomatoes have dropped their blossoms and have produced nothing. I keep praying for a break in the heat for them to produce.

You have so many comments, but I also wanted to thank you for bringing us another and useful gardening video. I prayed over my little garden today. I've been worried about the heat ( Upstate S. C.) and the effects it would have on the tomato blossoms; thank you for lessening my anxiety. I will trim my marigolds tomorrow; I'm hoping they will bush out and bloom. Bless you and Kevin. Thank you so much Lee

I wear gloves when looking for the hornworms. Then I put them in an old water bottle and just let them die inside it, no water. Take a bath with some vinegar in the water. It will remove the burning. We have 3 20 foot rows of the marketmore's. Your garden is looking AMAZING!! Thanks for sharing. God bless.

amazing that the weeds will make themselves an issue even through the little hole you burned into the fabric. My spaghetti squash went absolutely crazy, all from seeds taken from a store-bought squash. I planted two plants and got over 15 melons!! Needless to say, I will be saving more seeds from them.

If you switch to tomato clips, make sure to get the black colored ones. The clear/white are harder to open and reuse. Once you buy 1000 on Amazon they'll last years and you can reuse them over and over.

I used to use aloe for sunburn till I tried straight lavender essential oil ( I use and recommend YL). The lavender solution was discovered when I burned my finger on the wood stove a few years ago and consulted my reference book. What a wonderful solution it has been, takes the burn out and no blisters and no more sunburn or any burn pain.

put vinegar on a soft cloth and pat your legs down.. vinegar takes away the sting from any burn.. After a severe sunburn in Acapulco back in 85, a waiter told me that that was the best thing to use and it's almost instant.. works like a charm.

Sarah, we have watched you guys for years. This video made me cry, and the reason was joyous. The love and learning and squashed caterpillar was just special! Special because of all our years of gardening, never have we had the forethought to pray over it....I promise I will be praying over our blessings even down to a semi green thumb that I know was God given. I'm so greatful to you guys! Take care and God Bless 🙌

Tomato clips - when you rebuy the type you described, look for them in black rather than white/clear. The black ones are naturally UV resistant due to the type of plastic used to make them, the white ones are not. The white may be treated to be UV resistant, but you can never really tell until they fall apart. The same applies to zip ties. My black clips are on their 4th year, the clear ones are long gone.

If you check your tomatoes at night with a black light the caterpillars fluoresces bright green. Also the tomato horn worm are baby hummingbird moths or Spinx moth. If I find them I figure I have enough tomatoe plants to share a few branches.

@@AndreaRuralMN I can certainly understand that, but just as a thought, especially with your son in mind, if you can find a large bottle, (sometimes it's more affordable in the long run) you could blend it with water to make it go farther & just put a "table size" bottle for meal time use. It would go farther & I actually think it's pretty strong anyway, just like regular soy sauce tastes to me, so maybe that's something that might work for you. The large bottle lasts me a really long time too. Just thinking out loud & trying to be helpful. 🙂 God bless 🙏❤️
