I don't think half the people are getting the concept of this. It's just a badminton centre 98% of the time. They have planned infrastructure to be able to convert to a LAN setup with a day's work for events. It's not going to be a badminton centre by day, and a LAN centre by night 24/7. The amount of work it would take to swap back every evening is insane. He wanted a badminton centre, he bought one. It happens to double as a nice place to host LAN events, that's it. It's a bit like having your wedding at a location that isn't a wedding chapel, they're doubling up as a wedding location, but it's not the primary business.

Hey Linus! Remember atmospheric discharges protection! You're going to have a lot of expensive electronic stuff inside a structure with metal ceiling. You'll need a lightning discharge analysis on the structure, and a surge protection system in the main and distribution power panels. All of the previous will also need an appropriate grounding and bonding.

Oh yes. The power needs. I can still remember, a little LAN Party in Denmark (The Party 1996 in Aars, when we blew a main fuse. It was in the evening of the 26th of December, if i remebber corect. There was a little over 3000 people at The Party. The big problem, with replacing the fuse, is that the fuse was in the local transformer station, so we were slightly guilty of a tiny blackout in the area (think like 10.000-15.000 residences), until a new fuse could be transported from Germany and installed 4-6 hours later.

The Parly, was the 2. largest Demoscene in Europe, and the power demand was insane, and requied power planning and monitoring during the event.

A solution for keeping the reverb when playing badminton while still sound treating the room as well as integrating a PA system would be to look at the special audio solutions from DB Technologies. Meyer sound also has something similar. I was at NAMM this year and their demo of their special audio engine was very cool. They had rented a small room in the convention center so naturally it was sound isolated via the airwalls. But what they had done is placed a couple microphones around the room and pumped those through their engine to give the room a more natural reverb. This made us feel as if we were in a more relaxed setting. Once they turned that off the room and noise floor fell silent. It was too quiet with it off that you wouldn’t want to even make a noise. You guys could use this to still sound treat the building but then via their technology, you could still have a natural sounding space and even change the way the room sounds. Thus keeping the whacking sound of the birdy when playing badminton but then having an entirely different sound for the room when having a lan party. Plus you also check off the PA requirement.

i worked on a similar 9 building facility in northern minneapolis fridley suburb called northern stacks, there was a go carting place INSIDE one of the buildings...they should have rented and used an entire building, and part of the out doors during the summer but i understand rents not cheap. parking at these places like with all the paper suppliers, the playground equipment manufacturer and the rock climbing supplier, and the costume makers for seasame street, and the USO costume and equipment supply facility and an international shipping container company not to mention BAE with their own entire building that used to be the minneapolis farm equipment manufacturing plant.... the place could get packed on just the week days....on the week ends however....pretty much no one around except at the wine/o brewery, which was always busy once the work day was done. had always hoped some smart people would do this next to the go cart place....they could have even split the building into floor and upper level as all the go carts are electric. they had a small arcade for people waiting for a cart but dang this would have been awesome in any techie city...not sure how well it will do in vancouver...but if they get some vegas type gambling and racket/billards and bowling and roller skating in there, place will be busy year round as a destination hub... will need some pools like vegas has too...the liquid cooling "pond"

i doubt anyone from LTT will see this but worth a shot, as nucking futs as this this looks y'all might need a stronger projector than the LS12000 for the projector wall idea, if i'm not mistaken it's around 2700 lumens which isn't really enough for that usecase. I work a lot with projectors for concerts, conferences and other such stuff and ideally we'd use 16k or 21k projectors for any projection over about 4 meters in width. I can give a good tip, the old guard of bulb projectors are quickly going out of fashion, you might be able to snag up something like the Barco HDX for a reasonable price, 4k resolution and 19k lumen. Brand new they'd be something like 20k dollars, right now they go for 8k or less. You can also set up remote control over ethernet or even internet which is pretty neat. There are probably others out there but i know this one because it's one of many types of projector i work with and they're relegated to more and more niche roles. Anyways looks sick guys, wish i had a youtuber near me who could set up something like this

Just a thought, but for that narrow (now less so) network room, since it's so tall, couldn't you like make it double decker? Like build a mini second floor in there with a ladder? UPS downstairs, then a metal grate floring, and the rack above? There's for sure a way to do it to code if the upper level is sitting on steel structure attached to the floor. You could have a similar setup with a terminal "downstairs" and the UPS in the back by the far wall, then removable ladder to the "upstairs" where the rack lives. It would be tricky for videos, but assuming you only have one of building your "Crazy Split-level Server Room" and never need to again, I'm sure you could manage. It could be a really cool video and actually a decent idea for industral space network rooms so they can take up less space. Just think of the thumbnail Linus: you hanging from a ladder with a server over your shoulder, and it or both you and it, are falling? Classic.

I'd love to see the entire set of drawings but I'd like to point out the one thing I was able to see on the drawings. The POS stations need quadruplex receptacles for each station. A duplex means that if the POS setup isn't just a tablet (or otherwise monolithic) then both receptacles will be occupied (terminal & monitor). Add in a receipt printer and you already need a power strip. And any good design should not rely on a day 1 power strip. There are no lighting drawings shown but good lighting controls are KEY to smooth (and easy) operation of any sporting facility or event space. I would love to see the lighting drawings! Finally, I would ensure that you adequately prepare for LAN expansion - conduit, panel placement, distribution (proper amount of breaker spaces in your MDP for example) so that it isn't a nightmare when/if you decide to expand the LAN functionality.

Good call on the Dante format for audio. I did a couple of Stadiums in my day with CobraNet and they were super finicky about the master clock and the switch over between master and backup was not a seamless (or reliable) as advertised. I know it is old tech, but that is why you can get some really good deals - which you pay for elsewhere... I am sure you know this, but have the Dante on its own vlan - while I have nothing but good things to say about it, I am still very careful that nothing messes with PTP (it can be a little fragile, so a solid dedicated network is what it likes). Looking forward to see the whole thing finished! Do the video transport/routing/switching with NDI. Seriously nothing in the video space comes close to it.

And so that someone can't press it with their foot, I'd make a tiny hole for the button that would be big enough only for a badminton rocket. If you want an automatic counting system, you still need buttons available to correct system errors for each court, and as close as possible.

They take place in Europe several times a year, attracting up to about 1000 people. Computer artists - graphics, programming, music, having competitions among each other. The complete size of demoscene is a mere several thousand people, it has emerged as art spin-off of software cracking and piracy scene in the 80s, but has completely divorced itself from it by now. Word of note: demoparty lasts friday evening till sunday evening or monday noon, and demosceners prefer sleeping on the floor in their sleeping bags. The storage room where you store the LAN desks should do nicely as a sleeping area.

Well actually biggest of them are combined LAN and demoparty, such as Assembly Summer that's being arranged here in Helsinki. It's actually a nice concept, I ended up becoming a graphics programmer thanks to seeing weird cool stuff on the screen when I was 15 and obviously mostly interested about the LAN aspects of the party.

I still remember scene releases that had demos alongside their cracks/keygens/custom installers. That would have been like ten years ago at max. Of course back then there was already an established demo art scene that didn't do cracking anymore, but it's not like they forgot their roots. Nowadays, though, I am afraid you're right. In the age of repackers you hardly get to see any untouched scene releases at all anymore. And since there are pretty much no more serious crackers left, and those that are don't have anything to do with the old demo scene anymore. You can barely even call them crackers since there is no more competition whatsoever, a lot is done through automation and serious stuff like Denuvo gets tackled by not even a handful of people per decade, most of whom seem to have significant personality disorders. Currently there is no one at all anymore doing it if I'm informed correctly. It wasn't great to see the tradition from the Old Guard to what we have now, but thankfully tradition was carried on long enough for me to experience it, even though I was just sent into kindergarten in the actual 90s where the demo scene peaked.

BTW you can always 'patch' the fibers so that you may 'replace' the parts which move and not touch the part 'inside' walls. I have tested 'couplers' joining fibers to fibers (I tested many different connectors as I could NOT foresee which type of fiber-connector was present as part as the fixed installation, E2000/LC/...) ...

I'm guessing the plan is for the badminton courts and gym to pay for the building, so the LANs don't *have* to make money.

I love that this is happening! I am a little curious about the heavy focus on only badminton. It seems like it wouldnt be too difficult to make it a little more multipurpose, like the ability to play indoor soccer, Ultimate frisbee, basketball, etc. Or at the very least similar net sports like tennis, pickleball, and volleyball.

For shared bathrooms in a large space. Optimism Brewing in Seattle at : 1158 Broadway St. Has possibly thr best renovation of public bathrooms. Each stall is a separate room. *With A DOOR!* Then there is a large circular sink everyone washes there hands at. You get privacy, anyone can use any of the stalls. No more lopsided ques. Higher rate of hand washing, as you have to walk past Everyone else washing there hands. I friggin love that building. Oh, and the beers great too.

This is how things work in Northern Europe. Big shared sink/mirror area and then private single person bathrooms just off.

I've seen some schools and grocery stores here in the US starting to do that. It's infinitely better for not a ton of extra space.

Great idea! Tbh I'd settle for no stall gaps. Hanging a tp curtain under time pressure is... not ideal. If you know, you know :(

Hey fellow Seattleite and fan of well designed spaces. This is a great suggestion and I hope that they can make it happen as I agree on Optimism having one of the best mixed gender bathrooms I've been in. There are also a couple others in Seattle that are good. The Burke Museum has them and there's one in the SeaTac Airport, but that one's more utilitarian where the others are much more aesthetically pleasing.

Hey Dan. On the WAN recently you were looking at some cameras for the courts. You found some for discount but I wondered if some cheaper PTZs were of use? I work in events and have used many PTZs in the past some are rubbish but recently I found a camera I honertly for the price point couldn't fault. They were better than larger named models and had POE network for control and NDI so you could run 1 network cable to each one. They also have SDI output which is useful for us in events but the NDI options for the streaming is also tremendous and works seemlessly with VMix. Anyway they are the FoMaKo NDI PTZ camera (KN20A). They are on Amazon for £700 if they are available in CA or US I'd love to see if they'd be any use to you guys, honestly I've found them to be great quality for standard events.
