If you are going to buy your own merch, next time find a few famous Tik Tokers who have P.O. boxes. Send them a shirt that matches their style for free and maybe, just maybe, if one of them features the merch in an unboxing or wears it in one of their videos, you probably could pick up a few more sales.

Love your honesty throughout the video. Many content creators falsely make it look like they were successful for the clicks. I watched all the way thru and was relieved when you were honest, shared what you thought could prove to make it work (unique designs), and followed that up with your wisdom. Nice job! and thanks for sharing

Great video Sarah. You are fortunate to have the resources of time and money (and skills) to do an experiment like this one. I think your talent with making videos and presentation AND your sharp analysis of business opportunities AND your obvious business smarts is FAR more valuable to any of your viewers, than any of the designs or services that were sold to you by the Fiver "artists" who appeared to have simply used copies of typical/common designs. From what I can see, many you tubers may pitch "get rich quick" ideas, or make "how to POD" videos, but they don't have the sharp eye, business savvy, and skills you have. That's why I subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work!

I think in order to move to the next level you need to have maxed your product submissions AND sell up to your tier. I'm on the 500 tier but have sold more than 3000 products (over a few years) but only have 136 published products so my daily limit is 25 and have not been bumped to higher tiers yet. I'm just really slow since I choose to make all the artwork myself 😅

Congratulations Millie that is fantastic! From what I've seen people discuss there are a lot of mixed ideas on what is/isn't needed to move up the tiers, I'm surprised Amazon isn't more transparent over this issue (???) From what I had read going into the experiment, you needed to have at least 80% of your designs threshold reached plus the right amount of sales, to bump up a tier. But clearly you don't need to move up anyway!

Thanks for posting this video Sarah, very clear and illustrative. I think this video really helps show that if you want to create a successful (and hopefully sustainable) stream of income, you have to find a genuine gap in the market and serve the customers in that niche something of real value. Throwing money at "out of the box" sellers on Fiverr and spending little or no effort selling copy cat designs into a saturated marketplace is not really going to net a decent (or any) return. The amount effort you are willing to put in is generally in direct proportion to your success. And Amazon doesn't care - it makes money in aggregate of the 100,000s of sellers uploading...

My concern with buying designs (specifically using ideas that I came up with) from freelancers is: what's stopping the freelancer from simply uploading the design to their own print on demand sites before handing them over to me? If they do that, I can't prove that the copyright belongs to me because I paid for it.

Here's the problem. The create your own printed shirt thing on Amazon is saturated. Just like the print your own book/pdf thing on Amazon is saturated. I see videos on how to print and sell your own low content books/calenders/notebook s on Amazon. Nope. Water has flowed already to all the cracks and low lying areas as everyone rushes to do them. You have to come up with something new and be first and have it take off. Like the people that invented and patiented "Life's a Beach." My friend knew them and pointed out the big house with tennis courts they had near Riverwoods north shore Chicago. They came up with it in the late 70s/early 80s and by the late 80s shirts saying that were in stores all over the country. Be original and be first with something that is amazing. This was a good honest video.

A couple of thoughts on this video: The words "gift" and "birthday" are already banned in MBA. So be careful with these words! Don't include them in your listings. On the other hand, as I can understand, one of the Fiverr sellers send you designs with copyright issues that are not so professional as I can imagine. And last but not least, the "strategy" to buy your own designs to boost them and to upscale your level on MBA it's a good move, but it's not so good if you are a broke guy like me, trying to make some sales without profit and without any money for ads. Well done!

Honestly for some of the Amazon take downs, I think it was a mistake. If I had resubmitted some I think they would have been accepted. Really good to know about the change in policy, not sure if I purchased my designs prior to the change or my Fiverr sellers just didn't know 🤷

The shirts designs that sell for me are the ones I would wear. Tons of funny or cool designs but would I actually wear it. I design what I know And would want to wear. Don’t just copy for inspiration unless you see a better solution that you can contribute. Niche- I have a shirt that I made in 2015 that sells each month. I make about 50-100 royalties on each month. I cannot tell exactly why it sells. It’s not even a great design but it’s a niche to youth sports. The purchases are usually in two or threes at once. The whole family must wear the same shirt for an event or youth sports is my thinking. Stay simple with your thinking. Design like your gonna wear it or a gift for a family or friend. It makes a difference.

This way I don't have to worry about any companies' rules to follow and it's easier to get the product to my customer. Also, no money out of pocket in most cases. I will never ever use them again. They screwed up my etsy store so bad, I went from 50 to 60 visitors a day, down to nothing with zero sales. I finally went in and it looked like some uneducated fool changed all my keywords. Non of them matched any of the products I was selling. I changed everything back to what I had, which took me almost 8 hours, and now i have visitors and sales again. I no longer trust them. Buyer beware.

If those fiverr artist can make those design and grantee to sell well on Amazon why don’t they just sell it on Amazon themselves? It’s more profit then create bunch of design just for 30 bucks 🤷🤷🤷

Great content and GREAT experiment. What did I learn from this video? That Fiverr gigs are low quality and once they're off with your money, you're left holding the EMPTY bag.

Do you have a pilot’s license? I can tell you’re an AvGeek and if not you should get one :) I did mine a couple of years ago and absolutely love it.

I'm just wondering what you thought of the quality from Amazon and whether you might be able to do a comparison/unpackaging vid. :) Love your content!

Thank you for being honest regarding your journey... You even made me giggle when you got to your last "WELL" I could only be grateful to you for your journey in trying to help us. So thank you again! Eventually, I will find that work-from-anywhere niche that helps me provide for my family. The search is tiring.

Thanks so much for doing this Sarah, I was doing 😱 as you were going through all of that and having to buy your own tshirt listings 😂 but this was a very powerful example! I'm definitely trying to do the same as that artist did for my niche!👌🏼

I'm in 10 Tier for4 months now and no sales yet, I'm trying to do a better job and use designs no one is using, keep moving forward and I am hearing a lot of stories on FB lately that people are wearing the shirt they bought for an event, then they send it back they want a refund and this one shirt had bleach stains on it and MBA excepted it back, anyways I did make 2 sales on Etsy.. thanks for making video
