Can you paint Warhammer Army with only drybrushing? Sure...but what about using only Make Up brushes? While I don't consider techniques used in thsi video to be speedpainting, you can get high quality results very fast!
These Necrons from the Indomitus Box set have been sitting on my shelf for a lon time - now it's time to PAINT THEM! Painting warhammer armies is always a burden and it's your best bet to speedpaint them and retain the the quality as high as possible. Can this be done with drybrushing though?
Drybrushing gets a bad rep in miniature painting world. It's easy technique which is suitable for beginners, but it can also be used to get great results as well!

Just wanted to say thank you so much for your channel! There are loads of youtubers mind of talking about very complex things which can make painting an army a bit high pressure. Dry brushing base layers is a game changer, followed up with some normal brush work as well

After dry brushing I find that a light wash makes the granularity mostly go away, it kills a bit of vibrancy and darkens a bit but you can that that into account and make the colours a bit lighter first, then wash, and then a bit of edge highlight.

Stippling FTW! Awesome results, might I add. I use a decent amount of stippling on my droid army for Star Wars Legion. It really goes a long way to give them the weathered look that I'm going for. I do you a makeup brush, and I really like the results, and you can't argue with the price! I need to find smaller brushes...thanks for the reminder! Lol

This goes directly to what I asked about in a previous video, on how you develop a style. This is a style, it's not a 'for fun' challenge as much as it's a method to create an interesting result that is eye catching and looks good. Is it evocative and deep? Eh, that's a high bar for miniature painting, so that's more reserved for truly outstanding one in ten million models, but this is definitely a great end result with less effort than pain staking detail painting. Also, as GW's Peachy explained, this is how his dad with parkinsons (or some similar disease) had to paint his models after getting sick: By using a new method that he could do while shaking. Something that someone like the guy from Black Magic Craft who has 'tremors' could benefit from. As an aside, could pink and orange help in copper NMM? There's a lot of play in that metal color. I don't know how you'd do it with drybrushing, but teal for some verdigris could also easily spice them up. I think.

One thing I've found out is that a cheap rattlecan gloss varnish blends the grainy dusty parts, and creates a smooth blend finish, which removes the contrast, but - you get a a glossy surface for oil washing and capilar work, which really works with these kinds of texture recess models like necrons. You might wanna save time and just drybrush/overbrusb the mid tone heavily on black primer and on exposed parts, and precise drybrush/stippling with tinted white on exposed parts (when your brush is full you stipple and overbrush/drybrush the exposed parts, and when it's fine drybrush phase you drybrush the shade black primer parts. After the oil washes you will get some color vibrancy, and after the oil sets (couple of days) you can overbrush/drybrush smooth surface to produce edge higlighting with oils and some even more blends

Yup! I just stared the hobby and EVERYONE just said to me "buy the cheaper Make-up brushes you can find" and got some very similar to 0:44 . And from my limited experience, yeah, they do the job pretty well, IMO well enough I may stick to them for a long time before committing to real expensive drybrushes. Probably won't attempt to do minis JUST with make-up brusher ever, but I need to find a dampening pad for myself.

Had a go at this and considering I'm amateur at best I'm super happy with the results. Had one of those Skorpekh Lord models I got for cheap second hand and used it as a base model. Already had the magenta and luminous green/yellow paints, but added some bright, light blue to it as well as some orange. The blue works really nice for colour shifting from yellow to magenta.

Yes basically the whole video is exactly what I'm telling everybody about drybrushing and stippling - for gaming needs those are the best tools at Your disposal :) 1) I would disregard the dampening pad totally. It does not work at all in my opinion and only smudges paint. If You will keep all Your paints on the wet pallete this should work well enough. 2) For OSL and weapons in my opinion You've used too much paint and rushed it. By using a much much much more dried brush You will get far more smooth transitions. 3) I think a little bit of wash would improve the overall effect, maybe oil washes? Still having bad memories with them? ;) In the end the effect is really nice. I especially like the bronze effect - it looks fantastic! Sad that You did not include the full army picture at the end.

i chopped an old big brush down into the same size and shape as an artis opus drybrush a while back, followed one of their terrain tutorials with it and it turned out exactly the same. 80$ is wayyy to much for a dry brush, a fine liner maybe, but even then it'd have to be actually magic.

i thought I was real slick using cheap, dollar store make up brushes for all my miniatures. Turns out everyone's been using them for quite some time now. Nothing new under the sun, as they say. Also, those size packs you were holding up can definitely be found at said dollar stores (decent ones, at least) and they usually run me about $3. Worth looking into, if you have those in you area. A penny saved is a penny earned, as they say. I'm gonna go now. (have a great week)

Curious, you didn’t specify in the video if you preferred the makeup brushes over the Artis Opus ones. I’m looking at purchasing the AO dry brush kit myself, but if the makeup brushes work as well as for a lot less money, I’d be swayed. Have to figure in longevity as well.

Absolutely no offense to the guy over at Artis Opus, he's a really cool guy but dude the business ends of those expensive drybrushes look exactly like the little $1 makeup brushes I get at the DG!! The ones from the dollar store do not actually work as well when moist though because that causes them to leave lines but still, it's uncanny. Same shape and appears to be the same density too.
