Look to your left. Now, to your right. Then, to the garbage cans you put outside just five minutes ago. One of these places is already under the sway of the CORVID CONSPIRACY.
"No!" you cry, "*I* was going to eat that precious garbage!" But it is already too late.
In this thrilling game of Root: A woodland game of might and right by Leder games, a board game company that makes wargaming content and occasionally crows, I play by far the worst faction in the game.
The garbage may have been lost to the wind and your neighbour's yards, but the taste of victory... is eternal.

I actually had a lot of success with Crows in a local game by playing them as toothless. Never placing plots anywhere where they could effect other players, and leaving them facedown without any warriors who could trigger them. This allowed me to go mostly ignored, and I could freely craft a few good cards. Then towards the end of the game, I was able to flip several plots, and combined with two existing face up plots scored a bunch and crafted on the last turn to win. I'm not sure it would have worked in a higher skill game, but it was the first time crows have won in our little group (well besides the first time when we didn't realize they needed a warrior to activate plots).

Your strat with crows reminds me of a bit in the movie paul where they are being chased by cops. "Wait pull over here!" "Why?!" "Cuz only a complete idiot would pull over here right now!"

Well played! I love the Corvid; The one thing I do to get surprise points is hold on to False Orders. Corvid can craft and use it during the same Birdsong, which can lead to amazing cardboard slaying final turns!

I cannot imagine how many double VG games you had to go through in order to get a good playthrough! Edit: I can relate to the Lizard player not using the Sacrifice action, when i first started playing Lizards, the name and wording of the action made it sound like you had to discard the card to do the action; maybe the player just wanted to hold onto them for crafting when the RNG gods wanted to be kind to the outcasts

I actually got the first Corvid win of our group a while ago (first win in about 50 games 💀) and I must say I cannot believe they got released in the state they’re in. Our group made a change (it’s barely a buff, but it’s a whole lot of fun) where if the bomb gets hit by an attacking player it will go off as if it were flipped (except no victory points are scored for the corvids player). This makes it so that exposure is actually used and people don’t just smack plots Willy nilly. Try it out some time, I’d highly recommend it.

I've seen players buff them with an extra plot of each type (3 per type), have you tried that? Are you playing with the adset buff (free plot at the start)?

The story of the crows' development is pretty unique, actually. Leder ran through a bunch of designs, ranging from abilities that filled your opponent's hand with garbage, to plots that were significantly more belligerent than they are now. The TLDR is that, at the eleventh hour of their design, crows were completely redesigned from a clunky cardstuffing design into the (significantly better) plot-based system we currently have. This left the team without much time to playtest though, and the only other change they got before release was a broad nerf for safety's sake that saw almost no playtesting before it was finalized. That's not to say that Leder's "At fault" here though, game design is quintessentially a process of exploring what your product *could* be, rather than having a predestined end state from the outset.

Minimalist that I am, I strongly endorse the idea that embedded agents should deal its one extra hit as though it were an ambush. It's a tiny change that introduces a lot of cool nuance, and I even managed to seduce Josh Yearsley into liking it as well.

@@Nevakanezah_were you the originator of that idea?? Heard him mention it in the WWM podcast. We’ve started playing that. Feeds more into the theme of crows than 1 extra token IMHO

In defense of the Lizard player on that first note… having taught the faction to others, it’s always a bit of an obstacle to wrap your head around the fact that the ritual literally labeled “sacrifice” doesn’t _actually_ have you sacrifice anything. So… confusion with naming conventions is a possibility.
