Okay, first things first: no, this is not a real "port" of Pokemon Sword and Shield onto Gameboy! It's a fan game that recreates the first town from the new Switch Pokemon games onto Nintendo's original handheld, using some sprites from Pokemon Red and Blue!
This is just a dumb fan project I made over part of the weekend and have barely finished. That said, it is an actual working Gameboy ROM that you can download and play for yourself! Not everything in the game has been shown off in the video, so there are more than a few surprises waiting for you!
I've never made a game before. Earlier in the year, Chris Maltby released GB Studio, which is an incredible tool that lets you make your own Gameboy games. It's designed for adventure games or walking simulators, but some people have got basic RPG battle systems working on it too.
I kept things simple for my conversion of Pokemon Sword - it is definitely Sword and not Shield, as I chose to put in Bea as the gym leader. This probably won't take more than half an hour to play through in its entirety - probably a lot less time than that. There's also no end goal. Just wander around and enjoy a quaint English village where nothing ever goes wrong and nobody ever leaves...
