I can't wait to get my license, get a proper antenna, and make my first contact, no matter how small. It was super cool to see you were able to contact someone here in the States. Just goes to show that it takes the right antenna setup, not the tons of power that makes a good contact.

Nice! Here's an idea for you - use the drone to lift up the antenna, suspended under 50 feet of fishing line for noise separation, then take it as high as you can, though the weight of the cables may be too much to get much height and duration.
@andykirby
@andykirby 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah you know what I've thought about this, I reckon the DJI fpv would have the power to lift a significant length of small gauge wire, we will have to try that!👍🏻
@ahaveland
@ahaveland 2 жыл бұрын
@@andykirby Yeah, it'd struggle with RG-8/U! Drone would also have to be high enough to be fairly quiet. Lot of tuning involved, but should be a combination that's usable. A tethered drone could be possible for long duration, but limiting RFI from DC-DC conversion of multi kV power down to low voltage high current for the motors would be challenging.

Great video and great video creation. The video is very clear and sharp. I take my FT-891 out pedestrian. I don't have, need or want a car, here in New York City. It's not needed. So I walk my equipment 1 mile to my operating position in Central Park. We are not allowed to put anything on a tree here in the city. Which I don't mind because I don't like the idea of having to throw a wire up and then having to retrieve it later on. I much prefer stand alone verticals, like my Wolf River Coils or MFJ-1979 telescoping whip. I don't have the patients for the wire tree throwing. But thanks for the video. 73 from N2LRB.

For my Foundation exam booked for 20th Nov. I quite fancy the Yaesu FT-5D handheld to begin with and then start setting up a base station although I might have to set up an attic antenna because I love in a new house with all sorts of restrictions about what you can and can't do and I suspect sticking an external antenna up might be a no-no, given that you can't have a caravan, or commercial vehicle on your drive.

I've checked the wiring connections and all seems OK and I disconnected the brake shut off thinking it could be that, there's still no power going to the hub and when I wheel the bike backward I feel quite a bit of resistance and judder so I think the fault is probably the motor itself, has anyone had this experience or know what it could be?
