I think road tires on a mtb make sense for hilly commuting especially if you don't go off road. Road bikers often miss out on the joy of riding full suspension set ups. Cheers for the video.

I used to put 700’s with 25mm road slicks on my 26er mtb race bike back in the day. It was my road bike I used for training. Worked just fine.

Cool video man! I did this on my hardtail the other day... just to try it! I put on 28/1.4 inch wheels, a 160mm front rotor (from 180mm) and ran a 2X8 drivetrain! I changed it back pretty quick, as I wanted to go and exercise in the outback! (Singletrack / Nature-Trails)

I converted an old 26" hard tail with flipped and cut drops (to make bull bars) and 650b wheels with 50 mm slick tires and it works. With the 26" wheels it looked totally silly too.

I used to ride my rigid Giant ATX870 c1996 with 26x1.5" slicks on it more than I did with the 2.1" Smokes on the dirt. So much in fact that I invested in a 2nd set of wheels to make the changeover easier. Slicks during the week and knobbies on the weekend. Urban off road riding with kerbs, potholes, stairs, pavers etc was much easier without worrying about tacoing a 28"x3/4" wheel on a "ten speed"

I've done this on my 26 frame with a rigid fork and 700cc Panaracer King tyre. Wicked! I think it's a wise decision for me. Rather than buying a new bike, I got two wheelsets for two different purposes. In the end, it's your money and you can do whatever you want with it.

What just happened? A dually on Spindatt! Shock! Currently riding my XC dual sus’ as a daily driver. Schwalbe Rocket / Race tyres, not slick but spin fast. A 36t ring with 10t cog are okay for keeping the pace on the tarmac. Locked out it’s fast and fun.

A bro has a Trek X-Caliber 8 2020....he took off the 29er tires and replaced them with WTB Riddler 45c running tubeless. I tried it and LOVE IT! Looks and rides like a Trek commuter with better parts and fork. 700c is the way to go....leave 29ers for Red Bull videos.

Looks like it skipped leg day a bit too often. Any ideas to fix a larger 40+ chainring up front on a mountain bike?
@leorussellmoore3329
@leorussellmoore3329 4 жыл бұрын
I've wanted to do this before but 9 times out of 10 a chain ring larger than 38ish will end up catching on the start of the chain stays cause of the way the frames are designed to accommodate the larger tyres!

I used to live pretty close to where your video started. I was renting near the trailer park. My commuter has been through those trails/paths many times. There is a section of trail just past 180 Basswood, That might have been the first section you were on though. There are also trails behind the houses after the cul-de-sac up the hill on the left. I didn't spend much time in there but I know there is a spot that comes out by the fake roundabout/playground. Have you considered building a fixed with 80-100mm rims and 1.5" slicks stretched out? ..then you could name it the "Monster Track". I've wanted to build a commuter with that wheel setup but can't justify the expense of wide rims. I've seen some old diy fatbikes that used stacks of rims riveted together, some day I may try making a triple wide rim. It would be heavy and weaker though. If you want heavy and strong I've seen bikes with double drilled high flange hubs and two off center rims. They were running 2 tires... or 4 total, I guess. Would have been a bit odd to lean unless you were on soft enough snow. They had An oldschool Marzocchi from 1997ish with a custom arch and crown to clear wider tires IIRC. That era is bolt on anyways, easier to modify, but still has the 30mm stanchions of the 2000ish forks. ...end rant

In all seriousness. I've been thinking of getting a full sus XC bike and putting dirt drops with road levers on it. I allready think all gravel bikes should have 2" so going with suspension is a logical thing in my mind.

I actually did that to my mtb and rode it that way during highschool. Just because I only ever rode asphalt and didn't have money for a new bike. So I did the next best thing. Haha. Looked about as funny as this Scott did but it rode a lot better on the road then big knobby tire bike.

In a world where road bikes are becoming mountain bikes... I felt nothing wrong with the idea of a mountain bike becoming a 28c road bike. I found myself thinking about all the pros of having shocks and tiny tires... The world is mental

I bought a cheap mtb a year ago just for riding around my streets, being cheap (130$) and a mountain bike....it's performance on the road is pretty bad, slow and just to get 15kmh-20kmh it requires way too much leg power So I was thinking of converting it to an electric bike, but most of the affordable conversion kits come with road bike wheels So I was thinking of just switching both tires or wheels to road tires (one being the electric converted) Just wanted to know if this is doable, rather than buying a new bike, or a new electric bike, all I want is an enjoyable ride on the bike I have I want to make it easier and faster and I imagine converting it to an electric bike, and putting road tires on it will nod the trick, just don't know if that's possible or a good idea? Any bike enthusiasts have any advice?

Sad thing is that I have actually seen guys (typically older) riding full suss with slicks on bike paths. I am not talking about XC full suss, literally enduro/downhill rigs. I even asked one "Why?", his response "I just want as smooth a ride as possible because I have a bad back." My immediate thoughts were 1. He's pedaling his butt off moving that much weight, especially up hills. 2. He's killing his back whenever he tries to pick up the bike. I even had one tell me he didn't ride off road......😏
